the world is actually advancing slower than ever because the moon moves 1.5 inches further from the earth each year. The orbit of the moon affects the earth's rotation. The farther the moon gets, the slower the earth rotates and the longer each day is. Oh they meant technology...
No people who drive giant gas guzzling S.U.V are the biggest cunts on earth. I can't wait until Aptera 2 comes out this year. It's the car of the future. If you don't like it then your free to leave the country.
Eat your hearts out folks....I will have one soon, as I have my deposit in and will have one of the first ones in the Los Angeles area!! Looks like it will be sometime in 2009 from what the newsletter are saying...Keep a look out..
This is only the beginning. Once this baby takes off, many other companies will get on board and the prices will drop dramatically. This car is a great idea and I admire the folks who had the balls to form a company and build this thing (usually such inventors get iced). But, I never like being the first to jump into a new technology. There were many who felt pretty foolish after buying the first iPhone.
Paint it yellow and call it a lemon drop. Why are car designers so bad at what they do? I could see if it flew and did mach 2 but it is just a glorified golf cart.
I am wary of anything or anybody being inflexible and above the critical eye. Would this 'car' pass the safety requirements here in the USA? Does it have the required steel beam in the doors or is that inflexible also?
The "lemon drop" design is based ENTIRELY on reducing aerodynamic drag--nothing else. Personally, I think it's a pretty slick looking vehicle, but that's just my opinion. I respect your opinion too.
To change the design of this car would mean sacrificing fuel efficiency. People who will buy this car care more about mpg than design. Obviously, you are more concerned about design. That's fine, just not me. Safety? Tests are forthcoming. We'll have to wait.
It looks like the old Jetson's cartoon. Very often concept cars try to be different looking to the point of outlandishness. Actually it would be more 'aerodynamic' with considerable less drag if the design were reverse with the point in the front and the bubble in the back.

"visually stunning"? That is the ugliest car ever...looks like a reject from some crappy anime. 300mpg sure that be cool...30k um no or go buy a car that gets 60mpg for 18k and then think about how proud you would be driving the 60 and how freakin stupid you would feel in that jetsons wannabe.
I'v got mine reserved, I'll be the smug guy passing you while you are filling up our clunker at the station =). I'm a full bred geek, so i'm more than happy to drive a crappy anime reject. Also, according to my spreadsheet, your 18k 60mpg car (which doesn't exist in America) will still cost more per month if you include gas and monthly payments. So it's smarter, cheaper, and IMHO cooler lookin' to.
I'm a full geek as well but I suppose I break the mold by being a full geek with tastes. Besides, I'm not talking about per month I am talking about overall but regardless if it is cheaper after doing all the math that I dont care to do that doesnt change the fact that is a truly horrid looking car.
Negative. Base for both models are under $30k. You can even reserve one now via the aptera website. Only catch is you have to be a California resident to own one... for now ;)
I just learned about the Aptera today, and I am very excited about it! Wow! Thank you to the makers of Aptera typ-1! Finally, a vehicle which not only is emission-free but also very, very eye-appealing! I would definitely purchase one!
I have only made one trip this year where I would not have the range of the Aptera. Being I make biodiesel I would like to see an aptera with a BD engine. I read on their site that they cant include a diesel because of NOX. Too bad they must not be into BD, else they would see BD is better for the environment than gas.
Keep up the great work. I love how at 3/4 view it looks like its floating in the rear. Just wish it had a trunk worth noting.
Looks about as safe as a Robinson 22 - which are flown all over the USA - so leave those hummers behind and save big bucks in the longer term - >80 USD a barrel oil is here to stay
how do the wheels turn? O.o they look like they are covered and shouldn't be able to. otherwise this car is awesome, it looks out of place like it should be from the future but getting that much mpg is amazing. but i bet it only has like 1 cylinder though :(.
This car is already 3 or 4 years old and still not avaliable for purchase. I'm ready for the next generation :-)

To Whom It May Concern:
I have several questions about the Aptera. I was wondering if you could PLEASE answer them:
1. I live in Orland Park, Illinois near Chicago, Illinois. Were is my nearest Aptera dealer?
2. What other 3 wheel cars sold in America does the Aptera compete against?
3. When will the hybrid(not electric) be out?
4. What are the Aptera model names?
5. Can an Aptera hybrid be plug into a 110 outlet?
6. What vehicles does the

The point of this car is its efficiency. It's "design" is based on inflexible principles, so if you want something for your tastes--look elsewhere.

Hehe, touchee my friend. The Aptera does look like a Jetsons car.
As for the specific design--I'll let the engineers' windtunnel make the final call. :-)

Actually, blunt in the front and pointed in the rear is the most aerodynamic design. Think airplane wing.

You do realize that "cheaper overall" equals "cheaper per month" times "number of months", right?
Styling is certainly something that can be debated, but the numbers speak for themselves.

This is the "PERFECT" car for going to work etc.
:) maintenance will be almost zero. And wtf :) you can just drive a whole weekend without worrying about money or enviorment!
I hope they will come with a sports version.
-Lithium battery's.
-More kWh 3 phase engine.
I think with such a low CW value, you can easily make it go 200 km/h

I hope that the Aptera comes to the UK 'cos I'll definitely buy one, in view of the astronomical price of petrol.
Petrol prices over here are £1.05 per LITRE of unleaded petrol. This is almost £4.70 a gallon and would soon go up and up.
In some garages, it's £1.09 (or more) per LITRE. Yes, per litre.
Time to get an Aptera. I really mean it.

My fellow Americans have this wierd false sense of security with a larger heavy vehicle.
I constantly remind everyone I meet that there are two facts of driving any vehicle.
(1)They are by default, inherently dangerous.
(2)There will always be something bigger than what you are driving, to run into.
Every vehicle must get smaller. Yeah, like the
guy with his Hummer will co-operate with that concept. His biggest issue would be how to wipe an Aptera off his windshield.

its an electric car. they have a hybrid that gets the 300mpg with just a little tiny generator.
iwasbornin86 4 years ago
it's acutally 260MPG but thats still pretty good
flubberdubber 4 years ago
They're making an all electric model as well.
Also, performance using just gas is actually only(!) 130 MPG.
dnarby 4 years ago
The only problem is it's still a gas car weather it get's 300mpg or 3. If you can make it a plug in a convert it them it might be cool!

AFAIK, it comes in two models: plug-in hybrid and all electric. The all electric model comes out first.
