  • I believe this is director Ali's first feature length film. He did a magificent job. Truly a masterpiece visually and with a great story an characters.

I look forward to see what else he comes up with.

  • I have a slight feeling that what she said in the beginning of the film was supposed to be a mixture of German and Norwegian.. But I can't hear the norwegian in her accent...

  • This is an excellent move. I recommend it to anyone but especially those with concerns about immigration and building up an inclusive society. It's also a very sweet love story.

  • I dont know what the fuck she said... But that aint german! Hahah

  • "You sure you wanna marry this one" hhahahhahaha.

  • From where the trailer began and till );12, that's more words there than Elizabeth Reaser has said in all of the twilight movies combined! Love her! She's such a great actress, and she deserves more time in the spotlight.

  • I saw the movie in the theatre and wept for its beauty in the portrayal of what it is really like to love the land so much and to turn that love to each other for sustaining their lives, that I stayed until the end to see from what story this was taken, and I now own the movie, and I purchased the book of short stories, one of which was used to portray this poignant and deeply moving love story. I will marry the woman that watches it with me and understands its true message.

  • I own this movie and it is really good, I love it.

  • kinda weird, it is supposed she went from Germany to Norway as a child, after her parents died in war, I think that is why she has that weird accent. beautiful movie btw!

  • Elizabeth had to learn really quickly...considering I am not German, she sounded pretty convincing :)

  • that movie is so sweet....

  • urghh i just wanna c this movi cuz esme from twilights in it

  • I Just Lol'd At Alex Kingston, Attempting The Farmer Accent :D

  • i'm from austria and i don't understand a thing. she is definitely not speaking standard german and i know no dialect that sounds like this.

  • @o0OHermioneO0o i heard she had limited time to study another language and also memorize the lines and portray them on screen convincingly. she sounded pretty convincing to me. and i think she did a great job acting the part, regardless of the weird accent.

  • @o0OHermioneO0o sounds a bit like norwegian. which would fit with this being a movie about a norwegian girl moving to usa

  • i hate meatload

  • elizabeth is amazing!!

  • I Think she's speaking german, Im from Norway as well, but I can't understand a word she says. I love this movie! Love Elizabeth!

  • i love this movie!!!!!

  • What language is that at the start? Norwegian? Haha? I don't understand what she's trying to say... me being Norwegian and all. Put's me off on wanting to see the movie. Nice going.

  • This movie has the nicest soundtrack!

  • What a beautiful, simple story of our foregbears. It's the immigrant's tale from a different kind of immigrant. It is first-rate cinematic art & a moving story with memorable characters. I'm an Iowan who almost wished I were a Minnesotan.

  • her german in the beginning just sucks. this movie was made in minnesota around chippewa county as far as i know

  • Hi Howdy! To All!; Working on the this movie was great fun as an extra. The main cast was so interesting and open, for one. Mr. Ned Beatty's tail of his scenes in Deliverance at lunch in the farm house location of Sweet Land. To the question put at me by John Heard; as they shot the ball-game. "Are Tick's A Problem Here In Minnesota?". Then my reply; "Not So Much The Wood Tick's, It's The Dear Tick's You've Gotta Look Out For; There The Size Of A Pinhead!". All in all what a great time. TB:

  • hey spricht sie zum anfang deutsch? das hört sich voll komisch an

  • Alex Kingston did a much much cooler jod on ER when she playd Dr Elizabeth Corday.

  • Aww

  • WAW - I loved this movie too.

  • is this a sad love story??? cause i love sad stories and love stories

  • It is indeed a profoundly sad, yet beautiful & moving love story. If by chance you're a Midwesterner of Scandinavian or German descent, you'll be moved to tears again & again. My wife & I were weeping at the end. This is a beautiful movie.

  • @WallaceLind:

I am Scandinavian and the only tears I were shedding were tears of dream. She COMPLETELY butchered my language. I am HORRIFIED at the choice of actress they made for this movie. They could've chosen one with a better grasp of the language, instead they butchered it. Horrible.

  • @NeuroticDummy

    Dread! Not dream! The hell!

  • I love Elizabeth Reaser. She is very beautiful and very nice!

  • She's a vegetarian, you know.

  • Very interesting movie... About love and land and many things more...

  • 2 Other movies you might like if you liked this one.

Spitfire Grill - Sundance Film Festival win

Songcatcher - About the Scots/Irish music in Appalachians

Both on the par with Sweetland!

  • Very heartwarming movie. Takes you back to your own great grandparents struggles. This movie had me crying at the end. What a great movie.

  • Tell me about it! I get choked up just thinking about it half the time. (The CD soundtrack will do that to me too.)

  • same here nhpbob. the movie is very moving. we just got the cd for christmas and it brings me to tears. i especially love track 13. glad to see i'm not the only emotion freak on this earth!
