did you ever think of Using muffler cement to fill gaps and Holes it sets in three Hours and Is cured by Heat. Appoxy will just burn if you do not use High Heat which is expensive muffler cement is about $3.00US it is Costic so us gloves and a Putty knife
I did something like this when I was a kid. Didn't work for poo. I didn't understand that the air needs to be significantly compressed (like 2:1 or better) before using it for combustion or you won't create any significant thrust.
HIGH TEMP PARTs ARE REQUIRED. or something MIGHT BREAK AND YOU DON"T WANT THAT. and i would not use JB WELD on a jET engine. it won't hold. the HIGH TEMP. get a WELDER. nice video. or use HIGH TEMP Bolts. and seal with HIGH TEMP stuff. HINT look up TURBO CHARGER's DON"T BLOW YOUR SELF UP.
I must say, you did made me laugh pretty badly when you finally stuffed the whole exhaust chamber with paper and the engine was like fffFFFZZZZZprrrrrf and then cut! And the way you finished the whole show, by just throwing the whole thing onto the floor... price awarding! :D
@WhiteKestrell well for starts, if he replaced the computer fans with an actual compressor and turbine from say, a small turbocharger, that would instantly produce better results. Compressor and turbine wheels are designed to move the max amount of air per unit volume. I'd say there's definitely a turbocharger just lying around somewhere that would have the perfect size compressor wheel and turbine to efficiently utilize a soup/soda can
@idontcarewatuthink Yeah the computer fans aren't very good, plus they're plastic. Uhm don't know much about turbochargers lying around but if the PC fans were to be replaced by homemade steel fans, would it be any better? Also, don't turbochargers use centrifugal compressors? The fans are a bit different than axials so how to use them here?
dude that's funny lol anyway i'm going to help u out a little in order to keep the flame constant u need to have a better fueling system ok oohh an i like the way the blades were set
you need a proper combustion chamber in the right place with swirl tubes inside+you need a diffuser behind the compressor wheel+you need nozzle guide vanes between the combustion chamber & the turbine wheel.
Cool idea, however what you have now roughly resembles an afterburner. What you need to do is introduce and ignite the fuel I between the sets of blades. The first set brings in air, and the second set is turned by the flow of burning fuel.
if there was a way to soder it i think would be a better idea instead of clamps... more so cause your dealing with metal not rubber tubing ..... remember its gonna get hot, anything you can use that wouldnt heat up would be a good idea ;)maybe use magnetic type of bearings... good ones can stand quite a few degrees :)
if there was a way to soder it i think would be a better idea instead of clamps... more so cause your dealing with metal not rubber tubing ..... remember its gonna get hot, anything you can use that wouldnt heat up would be a good idea ;)
Try without the band and... good luck next time! But watchout for high temperature rise... You'll need to have something that withstand at least 550 Celsius, but for safety sake try using something that withstands 700º..!
I could say that this was near awsome but that little fire killed the party anyway... keep up, that was neat! :) To perfect it.. use some math ;)
I hope you know that fire blows out when wind reaches over 10m/s. to build this thing you have to sustain low winds inside by using V shape part... google
I think you need to go bigger. Try 1lt beer can... Had the same crazy idea, but I'm still trying to iron out any possible design faults in my head before building it.
You really want some advise you could build it with actual steel, weld it all nice and pretty and do it rite just by using some 1/16 inch sheet. One big problem your obviously having is there is no neutral guide vane and no turbine. That will produce the power for the intake or what ever that thing is. Listen if you have this much time to kill do it rite and post another video. Get diagrams of RC engines and start from there its actually very simple, if you need help let me know.
*sigh* Please leave engine design and construction to propulsion engineers. This is a rather dangerous endeavor, especially since it is clear that you have no idea how a turbine engine actually works. You seemed to get it at the end however. Turbine engines must be ignited from the inside in the combustion chamber, not at the nozzle. Also, one must ALWAYS run the compressor BEFORE trying to ignite the engine.
nice vid man, great idea with the bike bearing, i was wondering how i could have a bearing with shaft for compressor and turbine. i think ill try this with some stove pipe and steel blades.
Good on ya, that's brilliant. I'm an A&P mechanic/Turbine Engineer with Delta. If you'd like, I have a couple suggestions. P.S. you've inspired me to try the same! And don't worry about the haters - haters gonna hate! You're the man!
Can you leave one of the flanges of the hub (where the spokes went), maybe you could use it as the fuel injectors, you will likely need to close one side of the flange spoke holes, just an idea i had, might be possible.
@rantsila Can you imagine a guy at the airport throwing petrol/avgas soaked rags into the back of jet engines, & then throwing boxes of lit matches in, while his mate spins up the engine with a massive hairdryer..LoL...LmFaO..
so me and my friends want to strap a jet engine to a skate board essentially would tis work if it was put together better and if not any plans or links to videos or anything to make a small jet engine? please respond fast!!

However its not possible to make a working jet engine without the tools needed. And even with the tools needed a verry difficult job and requires a lot of experiance on the lathe.
Try a pulse jet or even a turbo jet if you are interested in this.
Use propane , its easy to ignite and control and your turbine blisk should be made of steel otherwise you will burn off the blades, you dont need consistent spark if you make a efficient combustor can.
You can not use cans, not aluminum cans anyway, there too thin and if you actually sustained combustion it would melt the cans in seconds. Bearings are another point of concern, you need high speed high temp bearings and if you dont want to get in to difficult lubrication then just use ceramic bearings ang pre lube them before every run. For combustion you need high presure air not high speed so you need to make stators after the compresor and just before the turbine blisk.
I made something similar to that we used a combination of PVC and aluminum sections it was a project we did in a aerospace engineering project at UF we used a electric spark generator for the ignition system since its consent spark and used a homemade map gas system for fuel it worked very well Cheers
very nice. yeah the combustion has to be inbetween. try mountung propane nosles for a constant flow of fuel. I like the bike bearing though. never thought of that
It's a good proof of concept but you can't run this with bike bearing, it simply can't handle the heat and pressure for more than a moment. You need a sealed bearing that you can pump oil into in order to cool it for continuous operation.
first of all u r a genius man.....and i think u need to work on a fuel injector........and a flame tube ...tat"s wer the problem is.......and wen u r startin the engine start the turbine shaft wit a low rpm and then increase it steadily......so tat the flame stays inside the can...........
That's a good effort. This is just an opinion but I think you should start working with small pieces of sheet metal. You can make your own spot welder out of a transformer from a microwave.
@KYLEZ0R09 Yeah man. When I was 5 i would take things apart put them together make things for arts and craft ... nowadays all they do is watch tv play games I even saw a kindergardener with a cell phone.. WTF? What happened to the coloring books and crayons?
Well, The point of this project was to make a small self sustaining jet engine.. and yeah I made progress but I also almost burned down the garage lol. My main drawback is that I have no way to weld on materials that I get from dumpster diving. So many holes and weakpoints and no way to reliably make them snug.
If you look at some of my other videos you'll see that I made a second with a fan from a bathroom.. though it became more of a thermojet.
Good effort... but its not got a chance of working without a flame holder, and stator vanes between each compressor stage to straighten the swirling air.
well, this was mark I. check out markII for a slightly improved version of it. Id love to add stators at both the turbine and compression sections of it, but i have no idea how to secure them and make them that small out of easily accessible parts.

I see a bigger fan there. Are you making a bigger engine? ;D

Good effort... but its not got a chance of working without a flame holder, and stator vanes between each compressor stage to straighten the swirling air.
keep up the good work!

@RetardedDrummer
well, this was mark I. check out markII for a slightly improved version of it. Id love to add stators at both the turbine and compression sections of it, but i have no idea how to secure them and make them that small out of easily accessible parts.
