Rather sad that the cameraman and director of this shoot had no idea, for the most part, how important Jimi's fingerwork was on his guitar. They wasted an enormous amount of footage on shooting Jimi from the back. Good post though, enjoyable just the same.
i think god created video so we could watch this. that is SPECIFICALLY why GOD created video. so we could watch THIS video. im sure of it. sometimes i think i REALLY love jimi hendrix, but i know its not true. i love YOU god because i know you created video for the sole purpose of showing me how amazing jimi hendrix was with a guitar. when jimi was born it wasnt HIS head that popped out first. it was the stock of that guitar.

If you think this is bad, you want to see his Berkely show in May 1970. The guys on the cameras were off their heads. Jimi performed an incredible version of Hear My Train A Comin lasting 12 minutes.
But the "camera guys" only got about 4 minutes off it.
Wow man. Like, I watch all these Red House covers, I watch all these other blues players and I think "Maybe Jimi ain't all that special, these guys are awesome." and then I come back here and Jimi just tears me apart with this, so slow, so confident, so fucking soulful. Wow.
@aspersive I didn't realize The Experience were all gone : ( I shook hands with Mitch Mitchell once in a bar in LA. I was so much in awe that I couldn't get an autograph or hardly even speak. I did manage to say I like your music and he said "thanks".
His voice sounds very rich on this footage. People tend to forget what a distinctive singing voice Jimi had as well. All that guitar playing stuff overshadows this! You can hear his voice somewhere and tell who it is.
I suppose Sg is punchier and more expressive than a strat. I own an Epiphone SG and tried to explore teh sound of a strat (squier and fender), and my SG (and obviously its Gibson version) seems more versatile than Strat and other fenders...for punk, psychedelic, avant-garde, jazz, surf (yes sounds cool with a sg), blues (i'm not a fan, probably strat is the best in that genre, its sound is bluesy if i'm not wrong), post-punk, goth, hard rock, etc. Its expression and punch.
Gibson SG - best damn guitar ever made. At that time everybody played it. Clapton, Mick Taylor, Hendrix (sometimes), and Townshend. Then along came Angus and he played it too.
This is true guitar porn. Just look at THAT GUITAR! I would die for one of those. No, maybe not die, but at least give an arm away.. No, that would make it quite hard to play it when I get it. Hmm, how about a foot?
@roganrocker This guitar IS restrung left-handed, but on occasion he would play a right-handed guitar as is, but I think that was when there were no other options.
i love that too, but i think he sounds better with the stratocaster..i bought an sg today (online) lets see how it feels/look, if its good i keep it, if not i buy a stratocaster..
Yeah he really was the originator. He looks really bored silly. He actually said before he started playing that they would just jam cause they hadn't played together in a while or soemthing like that. It was kinda funny cause he told them basically just listen to the music while they jammed cause they wouldn't know the difference anyway if they'd practiced it or not.
Awesome is not enough of a word....Obviously I'm being redundant to type that I miss what could've been if he didn't make that way premature exit....'Just sayin'.....

@aspersive Mitch and Noel are dead? Damn. I've always said that Mitch itchell is easily the most underrated rock drummer of all time.
polymath7 7 months ago
@polymath7 Noel died in the late 90's, and Mitch about a year or so ago. Billy Cox is still touring occasionally, but Buddy Miles is also gone.

And apparently Jimi before dying was doing good choices with gibsons. Even the late Les Paul (the creator of his anonymous guitars) met him!

he isn't playing it upside down. he was left handed. for a left handed person to play it upside down they would have to play it right handed.
