I stocked up on some simpler means of hunting that are also quiet and easily portable. Wrist rockets with various size bearings, multi-pump BB guns and even a blowgun. It may not be the wild west all the time, with most of your shooting being small game to supplement stores with fresh varmint.

Ammo is dirt cheap (wrist rocket ammo can be re-used, or substituted with rocks), propulsion is perpetual, and you don't let everyone for a mile or more know someone's hunting...or even there.

I mentioned this in another place. There were several studies done on looting after Katrina in non-flooded areas and the results were startling. In many cases looting took place in waves with long periods of no one around. The first to go was beer, booze, smokes, and candy. Several hours elapsed then the second wave hit and snack type foods went. Meat and milk went bad but could have been saved if taked shortly after second round and put with takings from frozen foods.

I have heard about the whole sun water cleaning thing before. I just don't how effective it is. I haven't heard too many people advocate it. 6 hours is a long time to wait for water to purify when your dirt dog thirsty. 10 minutes of boiling let it cool, and your drinking it. However, like it has been brought up, fuel sources are a consideration. I have not tried the solar method. If you have could you do a discussion for us, and explain how it works? Interesting that you mentioned that. I just cut up a piece of plastic that my phone book was wrapped in when they dropped it off. I cut them into lengths of about 12 inches. It's kinda stretchy and useful for ties. I just rolled up my old earthbox automatic watering system hoses and tied them with those plastic strips. Normally I'd use zip ties but this works just as well (or better since I can untie and reuse them).

Great primer on how another man's trash is another man's, well, survival. You should stop saying "I hope it doesn't happen", though. That's because there's no stopping it anymore. We all need to get in the crisis mindset right now even if we don't believe that it's 100% going to happen. This coming from a guy who's not even half as prepared as Mr. roadwarri0r here, however.

Yes , I now look at many things differently than in the past . Many things are multi purpose .

Used 10 cent yard sale pillow cases can be used for makeshift sandbag ballistic protection . (better than nothin)

old lead fishing weights can be melted for bullets , fishing lines can be used to set perimeter intruder alarms
