@hawking8 shut up about my great uncle i play cricket myself and i spin it to win it (and i mean spin it like hell) so please watch what u say he is a great man but is bowling action made it look astohg he through the ball so in true fact he is a brilliant fast bowler
@widlad7 Hiya, yes I love finding out about Johnny Briggs, he's a bit of a personal hero and I collect stories about him. I drove past what was Cheadle Asylum the other week. Victorian cricket was splendid for the gentlemen like Hornby but pretty brutal for the ordinary players like Briggs and Mold.
@Dilhan777 Not that I know of but may be there are other film clips of him. My own big interest is in Johnny Briggs and in my research into him I have often encountered the name of LCH Palairet. The film is very sad for me because at the time of this match Briggs was in Cheadle Asylum where he died months later.
@widlad7 Thank you. Yes, Briggs was a great bowler of the period, and his end was sad. Lionel Palairet was considered the supreme stylist of the Golden Age of cricket. The photographs of him in action suggest a very elegant batsman. The accounts I have read of him also suggest that he was a very nice man. I wish there were some clips of him batting.
It is difficult to see any straightening of the arm from this footage to be certain. However, just before release, his front foot is slightly splayed and his chest very front on. Both these body positions are common among bowlers who threw.
Cant see a thing wrong with Mr Moles action, by today's players this would never be against any rules, his elbow is straight at the point of release..perfectly fair!!
Then a hundred years on they fielded the worst bent arm chucker of all time, yes I mean you Mularitharan. It must be a Lancastrian thang. That said, a wonderful piece of film.
Not really seeing Muli isn't a Lancastrian! But I see what you're getting at. This bowler was definitely a chucker, but maybe every one bowled like this then?
That kid @ 1:03 might have an 80 year old grand child by now.

Blimey, if they considered Mold dodgy, they'd have wet their drawers watching Tony Lock.

This is cricket gold dust. I watched the bowling and he doesn't look to be throwing to me but he does look a bit slow medium!

@johnnybriggs118 interesting name followed by the number of wickets Briggs took in Tests. I guess he must be an idol of yours?

Yes! Iknow know who that is. LCH Palairet-who, like Jardine went to Oxford-though not at the same time of course.

Pity Mold wasn't Asian or the cricket authorities would have changed the rules so he could throw legally.
