FFXIV started out as pay to play, but since the game was so broken square enix decided to make the game free to play until they fixed all the bugs and make the game more convenient for gamers. although FFXIV was free to play it didnt have a cash shop, so for the past year square enix made absolutely no money off of the game plus they also spent so much money hiring a new development team to fix the game, after a year of work the team thinks they fix the game enough to deserve a monthly sub. tyty

I didn't know about MLG until starcraft 2, which by the way I think is the most balanced and fun e-sport game out there. Was WoW PvP actually balanced when it was in the MLG??? Was it purely arena PvP? I used to play WoW and I feel like it was never nearly as balanced as something like SC2..

I dont think FFXIV deserves its former bad rap anymore.

While under new management, FFXIV has gone through many significant changes. Certainly too many to list in 500 characters. And, it is still undergoing big changes. It has come a tremendous way from the horrid release condition.

To give you a better understanding of the degree of changes taking place in FFXIV, even the graphics engine is being changed in addition to restarting construction of the server system from the ground up.

FFXIV never switched to a f2p model.

It was an apology for the people who bought the game , cause the game wasn't polished.

Game didn't have any kind of store, cause again, it never was f2p.

Game will get a major remake on the next year, and right now game is pretty playable, most of the problems are solved, and some people do enjoy it.

Just trying to bring some light on this game that so many people talk about, yet most didn't try or didn't even research properly.

I have to say, watching the recent Dreamhack live games was a blast. These games were so much fun to watch. It was rare to see a boring game. The Hero vs. Puma series was just ridiculously fun. Honestly, I had more fun watching these than I would watching a traditional sports game.

Emulators are great, but I prefer the real licensed games.

There's necessary background you didn't give on the Final Fantasy XIV issue. The developers said they could not bring themselves to charge for a broken title, so for the time being it would be free to play while they did a major redesign. Now that they overhauled the game, they are now saying it is worth your money. Free to play was never intended to be their revenue model; it was temporary damage control.

For the record Force, FFXIV went F2P not because their numbers were low and now back to P2P because they have higher numbers persay. What happened was they were getting extremely negative review and feedback and people generally hated the game. So they turned off their subscriptions (account information always made this clear) while they changed leadership and started work on overhauling the game.

They're not done, but they feel they've come far enough to justify turning back on subscriptions.

XI was a great balance of difficulty (Harder than wow), community(more group dependant than wow which could be good or bad) and graphics (waaaaaay better than Wow). 12 was a good game but boring characters. 10 x2 had its good points, 13 was a piece of shit imo and 13 x2 well I don't know. FFXIV was the worst MMORPG of all time.
