We had the barbs in the tank first and then introduced the betta a fews weeks later. The barbs are very aggressive but as long as they are in a large enough group, they tend to keep the fighting between themselves and leave the betta alone. The betta was just happy to get out of the tiny little plastic jar the pet store kept him in ! lol
