Oh gosh hunny get that poor fish out of that tacky bowl and get a propper tank, LIKE THE ONE TO THE RIGHT!??! why punish the betta fish in that bowl!!
listen guys if your not okay with bowls the screw off he does i did and mine lived for 5 years i know you guys want to show off and be experts but come on just give em a break they are just trying to make a vid
I know i am going to get like 1000 thumbs down but here it goes... i saved him from a petstore, his name is gilbert. I keep him in about a 1 gallon bowl with real aponogeton that I grew and a decoration thing i bought. All i can do is the gallon bowl and i do what i can with the restrictions i have. In my opinion this is way better than a petstore sooo... yeah btw its the happiest fish i have ever met
Bettas are air breathers and are normally found in smaller pool to this fish tank though more space is always better bettas are the perfect office pet as they do not take up much room and are low maintainence .
god please tell me that he's not really gonna put a fish in that thing? Its way to small. I have my female in a 1 and a half liter bowl and she's the smallest thing I would put in that size of a bowl, and only because she's barely an inch long. Males need more room, if you insist on keeping a male in a bowl, as I have to, be kind and get a big one. You can get a 2.5 gallon from Hobby Lobby, or any craft store for less than $12. You fish will really thank you.
Cut all this bullshit... with all your chemicals and supplements. All u need is a something to put the fish in, food pellets, and to put fresh drinking water for them once a week.
I feed my bettas small minnows (only the females because they are more aggressive and they swallow the whole fish). I recommend doing that because of instead of each feed going to the surface, it gives the fish a sense of predatory instinct, its natural and healthy for them and its entertaining to watch them catch and eat the minnow!
this guy is just a joke. and you never do a full water change. plus no fish should ever live in a bowl, especially a betta. mine lives in a 65 gallon tank.
it doesnt matter what bowl or tank size anybody has, somebody on youtube is gonna say its too small, it never fails!! FYI: betta's are kept in little plastic cups for weeks, before they are sold
You should go to jail, this is not a fish tank. This would be like being locked in your small single bed room, with nothing but 2 pairs of clothes and perhaps a small toy and if you are lucky, carpet. PUT THE FISH IN A TANK! NOT A CONTAINER!
Number 1: You shouldn't keep the betta in such a small tank, sorry bowl!
Number 2: You shouldn't tip the betta in to another tank cause it shocks them!
Number 3: You should'nt clean all of the bowl out because the benificial bacteria in the water helps the fish's growth and health and it will just kill the fish if you empty all the water out.
Number 4: ALSO do a hal or quarter water change twice a week instead of 1 once a week
Number 5: Get a bigger bowl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@FishDevil789 my betta was 100% fine with other fish in my 30 35 gal with other fish it jsut chilled in its hiding spot he would come out and eat and go chill
@MrGman0909 thanks :) ive officially decided this is the worst betta care video ever and my freinds five year old son has more knowledge than this guy about fishkeeeping.....:P
Damn advices like this are killing bettas everywhere. Pellets aren't that good for bettas, save money and go buy some frozen bloodworms and brine shrimps which are more natural to their diet and a lot healthier.
naw...they just need to be heated really....especially in cold times....but I DO have a filter....sooo.....yea. They dont require TOO MUCH. But at least a one gallon....
I stopped watching when he said 'bowl' lol. If you want your betta to not bore itself to death a 5 gallon tank at minimum. You can go smaller but conditions need to kept stable.
this guy sucks expert village is shitty and the tank is so puny. U need at least a gallon tank. And live plants and ur a psycho. Talk to ur fish joking or not ur an idiot.
You can also use silk plants but platic will tear the betta's fins. I use silk for all my fish because it is a lot nicer and isn't as rough when they hide.
First in a bowl, the temperature will fluctuate quite a bit. There's no way to keep it steady. With a fluctuating temperature, the betta's immune system will suffer.
Second, if you must keep it in such a crappy little bowl, at least do DAILY changes.
In a bowl like that the poor thing hardly has any room to explore, or hell, even turn around!.
Bettas do MUCH better in real aquariums.
2.5-3gallons plus, heated/filtered.
If you want the thing to actually live/be healthy and happy
put the poor betta in da big fish tank , why bowl !! , if the lion is the king of the jungle , betta is the king of the fish tank , put the King back where it belongs .!!
cant you just put the betta in a bag with some of the tank water or back in the cup it came in clean the tank and just let the betta fish float for 20 to 30 minutes thats what i do
im not knocking wat ANYONE is saying, im just speaking from personal exp.& what i've learned from my bf, who has been lead petsmart petcare specialist for over a year.
i own a betta that i keep in a 1gal bowl. the ONLY reason i changed his water every 3 days was bc his water kept clouding up. this is bc they release ammonia from pee/poo, which is toxic and can kill them, so CHANGE THE WATER IMMED! & keep the water warm, so they're comfy and dont stress out and pee everywhere lol
actually depends on the beta u own sometimes u do only have to feed it 2-3 pallets a day i had three and they all ate diffrently..one only liked flakes and wouldnt eat the pallets and the other one only like pallet and the other liked either...and one would get more hungrier than the others so depends on the fish...so ur both right...only for the fishes u have :)
secondly, you do not clean your betta's bowl every couple of days, try every two weeks, and if you do clean it you should only change at a maximum 30% of the water in the bowl at a time. the only reason my fish died a long time ago was because i cleaned its bowl too much. also dumping the fish into another bowl during cleaning is devastating and stressful for the fish, dont do it. and if he even had a filter in that bowl he wouldn't need to clean it so often.
this video is all wrong, no one should listen to a word of advise given by this man. here are a few reasons why:
first of all that bowl is not suitable for a Betta's needs, and should not be in a show, showing people how to keep there beta fish. i mean it doesnt even have a filter, or heater, or anything for that matter. people keeping betta fish in bowl is cruel and unnecessary and this is just promoting that.
"Give him a good talk"?!? Yeah, to talk him out of jumping out of such a small container with *no lid* on it. Great, let's follow the advice of a fish store owner...someone who has in their best interest to sell off those tiny tanks. The basic rule of thumb for fish is 1" of fish per gallon of water so a 2-3" betta should be in a 2-3 gallon tank but most people can't even keep them in a 1 gallon because the small tanks are "pretty". O
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
In the wild, bettas live in an inch or two of stagnant and cloudy water. They do very well in bowls and this video is spot on. Sorry cuss word man, get a dictionary.
I think what your reffering to is rice paddies and actully rice paddies are fields of thousands and thousands of gallons of water. But a bowl like the one in this video is way to small there are some bowls that they can live in but they will not be happy nor healthey the bare minimum of a tank for a betta fish is 1 gallon but you should try to get a 2.5 gallon. He will be much happier in that. Seriously look it up.
I think that people who actually know the real way to keep a betta should make a video. I'm a breeder and bowls are NG! They deserve better! I used to have 200+ and the water was well heated and with a constant drip of fresh water through the system I built. This video should be off as it is not the proper husbandry for betta splendens.
I have 6 bettas, all of which are in at least 2.5 gal, whith filters and heaters, decorations and live plants and they COULDN'T BE HAPPIER! My most recent one is a beautiful turquoise crowntail i rescued from a tiny smelly freezing cup in a store, the 2nd day i had him he made a bubble nest! The only tank i have that is smaller than 2.5 gal is my hospital tank which is 1.25 gal. I would love to have them all in 10 gal tanks, but i simply dont have the space or time.
the moment he said bowl i switched off, no fish should have to suffer in a bowl lets stick him in a little room and throw in some bread once a day and see how long he lasts
Ya but hey some people are on a budget i just keep mines in giant plastic draws lol i think they about 4 gals measured to regular fish bowls though can you give me a advice on how much aquarium salt we need to add per gallon? I think im overloading his tank and my other one
unless its marine salt and you're keeping marine species, you should not need to add the salt. If you bought it as "freshwater aquarium salt", its rather useless besides raising hardness and treating disease. How many betta's do you have?
If you best you can do is plastic drawers(if i read that right), theres nothing i can really tell you but to check your local trading classifieds and hope you find ,ideally, a 10 gallon for cheap. I understand you're on a budget, but this isn't a cheap hobby.
You're gay. And you don't know what your talking about. "um, um, um". No, betta's need to be fed floating betta pellets in small amounts, TWICE A DAY.

I stopped watching when he said "BETA". But usually I don't listen to pet store employees. 99% of the time they are ignorant.
I am so annoyed by how many people mispronounce this.
Its not even vernacular saying a vowel a different way. It's a completely different word. BETTA SPLENDENS.
Where do you get "Beta"? Is that what they taught you in biology? To completely degrade a species of fish?
But yes I agree ideally you need filtration. Gallon an inch. Ick kills.

2.can plecostomus live with these?

1. If the tank is spacious enough, yes
2. If the tank is very big, possibly. For 'plecostomus' a big tank is needed with a good filter and a lot of veggy and other foods.

For bowls:
A 1 gallon bowl or jar kept in a warm room and changed once or twice a week.
Tanks:
A 2.5+ gallon tank with heating and filtration.
Feeding:
I only feed my bettas once a day with three pellets. It depends on you and your fish.
