  • my child hood fav from garland and i think this is better!

  • I finally found this movie on VHS. I love Andrea's voice especially in this movie... just beautiful.

  • Andrea is good, but her Broadway flare isn't close to Judy s and because its not it throws you off.

  • this was made the same year i saw a.m. in "annie" at the victoria palace theater in london; she was just amazing, as was the whole cast...incl. the chorus who sang with such elocution that you could actually understand all the words of all the songs. what a great memory. btw, i discovered on that trip that there really are lilac trees in the heart of town!

  • to me she sounds lke every other young kid with a decent enough voice, but there's nothing special in this performance

  • That was thin, devoid of feeling and awful. Just sayin. RIP Judy, the greatest singer of all time.

  • It's good to see Rue in this as well.

  • she sounds nothing like Judy Garland...its crazy...in a weird way..I mean Andrea can sing but not like Judy could...there will NEVER be another Judy Garland...some can try but it will never be done

  • This is the exact problem with this movie. It sparks comparison. Although in reality there is no comparison. Judy is better and could sing circles around anybody... I had to stop this video and go listen to Judy's version of this song and Andrea McArdle got served.

  • This song was originally a big hit for Al Jolson, and throughout her career Connie Francis sang it with these same special lyrics as a salute to Jolie, much as Judy did to Clark Gable.

  • As a longtime fan of Annie, I love Andrea McArdle. I think she has so much natural talent and now, decades later, her voice hasn't aged. That being said, there is only one Judy Garland. Criticism would have flown no matter who took on this role. Andrea was clearly hitting fame in the late 70s and chances are, the creators of this film wanted to maximize on it. I believe that if she were to try and imitate Judy it would have come across as unauthentic.

  • For those of you looking for a complete copy of this movie, I notice some sellers on Ioffer have it available. I have not dealt with any of them; my copy was from Ebay from a few years ago and I transferred it to DVD.

  • Judy did NOT have blue eyes! Judy had deep brown and somewhat sad looking eyes. Whoever did this movie lacked creativity. MGM & Hollywood failed to Let Judy be Judy they cheated her out of a regular life and a chance to tell her story accurately. Lorna's film didnt even do that. This film couldnt even find an actress with the right eye color. Just because someone thought She sounded like Judy they rushed her into production. Today she is on cruise ships singing somewhere.

  • I don't care what people have said about both Judy and Andrea - they're both very pretty.

  • Wow, the guy playing Clark Gable is like a mirror image. I love hear Andrea sing this. No one compares to Judy, but Andrea has an energy and warmth all her own.

  • 3:18 omg lol Blance from the Golden Girls

  • I have to say, I love the version of Judy Garland singing this, but I love hearing Andrea McArdle sing it just as much! as kiteandstuff said, they're both equally great but in their own, different ways!

  • they are both very different kinds of singers (Garland and McArdle). Garland had more of an adult sounding voice at this age, with more vulnerability. Andrea had a gigantic, Mermanesque Broadway voice. Both different, but McArdle was amazing in her own way. if you can get past the comparison, these are great little tributes to Garland, like a reimagining. Andrea should have done more tv and films. I've seen her perform live and she isreally outstanding. her voice matured &developed more levels.

  • I completely agree with EVERYTHING you said in this comment!

  • I know it will make me unpopular but truthfully in dind give a ____ about popularity.

Andrea IS the better talent, and she has gotten progressively better as she has aged, that could not be said of Judy.

Judy will always be the more popular of the two largely baised more upon nostalgia rather than substance.

Judy and her ilk had a heavy cross to bear when they worked during the "Star System" years in Hollywood, she deserves repect - not blind assumption that no one can measure up to her.

  • i'vs been looking for this movie, checking lifetime and everywhere. only seen it once and loved it. thanks!!!

  • ich suche diesen fim in deutsch kann mir jemand helfen .

  • I guess they hadn't yet invented colored contact lenses in 1978... had they?

  • thank you so much for posting this! is there any chance you have the whole movie and would be willing to upload? i have wanted to see it for a really long time, i'm a fan of Judy and Andrea

  • Judy Garland was a one-of-a-kind so I don't even engage in a comparison with McArdle - Juding Andrea's performance on its own merits I love her - I case I have good ABC after-school special memories of this film as well.

  • No, and now I read there is a new film bio soon to be in production starring Ann Hathaway. I really hope they don't do what they did in this film and NOT use Judy's own voice.

  • @friendsfamilyaccount if youv'e read anything lately on it - there are signs that Anne is going to sing if the film is made.

  • Thanks for posting this.

  • hey ummm that's not how judy sang it this it totally the al jolson way. lol

  • Awesome! I've been looking for this scene for days now. Thank you so very much for posting! :-)
