When I saw the crumpet, I thought it looked like an English muffin. So I looked up crumpets, and apparently they are more like a pancake (even though that didn't look much like a pancake), and what Americans call English muffins are just called muffins by the English. Regular muffins in America aren't anything like English muffins though, so are they called American muffins? What?

@euiko23 I live in England and here we call "American Muffins" muffins and I have never heard of "English Muffins" although they look similar to drop scones. I honestly can't describe a crumpet, but if you ever have the chance try one, they are lovely. I think that people in different parts of England might call muffins different things however. I hope I helped.
