  • Oh, baby, baby, NOOOOO!!!!!!!

  • this movie was better then the book for me in a honest opinion

  • The ending was to shock and bring a stronger view point, which I thought was an excellent prop.

We all entitled to different opinions and to be ourselves, which i think is the moral of this film.

    Peace.

  • the guy at the end... "son a bitch" looking into his dead face lol

  • What a bastardization of the short story! This ending is only something an anarchist thirteen year-old would find deep.

  • Holy Crap! Sam the Hobbit just shot in his face!

  • For certain part; this movie make more sense than the story "2081".

"2081" it is more emotional (it focused on one man trying to convey message thru emotions) but it doesn't explain why intellectuals support that egalitarian system.

-In "Harrison Bergeron"; there are extensive dialogue between the supporter (the elite) and the opposer of the system (Harrison Bergeron).

  • Excellent; exactly like the book.

  • Awesome video! If you have some time, please check out my final project from film school, a sci-fi drama entitled "NUMERICA" inspired by Kurt Vonnegut's 2 B 0 R 2 B.

It tells the story of a young couple struggling to have a baby in a world where overpopulation is rampant. In fact, for every child born an adult must volunteer to die.

  • What would Frodo say? :D

  • @gamesonicedotcom Frodo and Sam both read Ayn Rand (and apparently Kurt Vonnegut too).

    \8-D

  • If you haven't watched the entire film don't complain about this short excerpt. It would've been impossible to turn Vonnegut's original short story into an entertaining movie.

  • To be perfectly fair...Harrison Bergeron was a short story that if it and of itself was made into a movie with exact from the source material, well there wouldn't be quite enough. This movie doesn't claim to be exact representation of the short story, nor is it intended to be. It's just an adaption of the theme of the short story, enjoy it for what it is, or don't complain. : x

  • a canadian movie

  • Thisis NOTHING like the book @ all!!! and he doesnt shopot himself!! the handicapper general shoots him and the dancer!!!! Trust me. ive just read the book in class for an essay i had tyo do!!

  • RUDYYYYYYYYY

  • i watched this movie in class today it fucking pissed me off

  • @prettyfly2009 hahaha!

  • is this the goonies? lol

  • That music is priceless.

  • This ending is better than Vonnegut's ending. I remember watching this when it came out as a kid, totally awesome.

  • Moronic. Read the short story instead.

  • @BL4CKNOV4 Not moronic... hilarious!

  • @blackadder112679 how the fuck do you find that hilarious?

  • @BL4CKNOV4

Love the short story, i have to do an analysis of it for Homework

  • I don't understand why, after he'd shot himself, he apparently says "geez." He did die, didn't he? He couldn't have survived that.

  • that was quite disturbing...

  • That's not hilarious at all.

  • I find this video to be somewhat similar to the Budd Dwyer suicide video. I wonder if the directors had Budd in mind when shooting this scene.

  • @lolgeed A sweet Video.

  • man the book was so sad, this was cool, but in the end of the book the parents dont even realize that he's dead. I just about cried while I was reading it.

  • LMAO!!!! I love the music.

  • Does anyone have a clip of the part where the one man tells some guy "I want you to get Cancer."

  • @hedrought hahahah just search harrison bergeron. it should be on part 9 or 10

  • You're right. johnnyshroom. The point of the short story is that socialism is grand and equality in every way is attainable in practice. Now don't you feel better?

  • this comPLETELY missed the point of the book.

  • How?

  • have you ever read the short story?

  • Yea, but I didn't get here what missed the point, I didn't particularly like the story though, I didn't get the point of it, I don't consider the moral as clear as in 1984 for example.

  • well from what i see in this trailor, they altered some parts, a few of which are unbelievably important to the argument. for example, harrison and the ballerina floating to the ceiling at the climax, and then the story ending with them being shotgunned to the ground was vonnegut poking fun at the traditional story structures. and it also portrayed a completely different argument than harrisno shooting himself on a talk show does.

  • WATCH OUT FOR GERMS HOWIE!!!

  • ok, its a short story, not a book, BUT, this is just another version, everyone makes their own version , i think im gonna film one as well, but try to stick exactly with the short story.. where Diana Moon Glampers shoots them as they are dancing, i have great ideass for this, .. good story too.

  • this has is nothing about the book and I could list about a thousand things that are different, but I won't. I have to credit this movie though because it wasted two classes in school.

  • I'm writing a script based on the actual story!!!!!!!!

  • "The United States Handicapper General" anagrams to "headache penetrates until rite"

  • "Oh he shot himself, whats going on here"

Best line in the whole clip

  • what the heck? this has nothing to do with the book, it sucks

  • No, this is better than the book... because he shoots himself in the face... on national television!

  • What is wrong with you? This is sick!

  • your reasoning is horribly flawed

  • @blackadder112679

yeah that's not the point. and that doesnt make it better than the book. the point is that he's murdered in the book. he kills himself in this- although he is basically murdered by what the government pushes him to do.

  • @MooMoo397 the books like 2 minutes long

  • @TommySalamy We call those "short stories".

  • @Cronjob i know, im sorry you took offense to that, thats pretty sad.

  • @MooMoo397 if you had ANY common sense at all you would know that its BASED off of the book, not the actual story!

  • The Sirens of Titan by Vonnegut, will break your heart, and make it stronger.

  • You guys dont understand. This guy is just imagine that it was only a hoax and that his son only faked it. He want to believe he`s still alive. But then *poff*

  • If you guys think this stuff is good, why dont you check out some KIllgore Trout!

  • interesting take

  • You people know this actually happened with Christine Chubbuck? Her bio is on youtube...I am ashamed that I am not more familiar with Vonnegut. When did he write the harrison bergeron story?

  • This never happened in the real story. Harrison was shot in the real story.

  • this is crazy insane! i will take my pants off

  • this is absolutely NOT based on vonnegut's 'harrison bergeron'. it looks like a completely different story.

  • it is...vonnegut wrote it

  • i know. i know vonnegut wrote it. but, this movie is a completely different story and shouldn't be promoted as "based upon the story 'Harrison Bergeron'....

  • But it is based off it. It's not an adaptation. If they didn't say that then this would be copyright infringement

  • that is sooooooo off fom kurt vonnegut's story i can not even believe it!!!!

  • Yeah but this version is more hilarious.

  • "Fucking Frodo, I told him to give me the lambas bread..."

  • hehehehehe

  • now that's gonna leave a REAL mark...REALLY REAL.....

  • holy shit :..(

  • A separate girls hockey team is good. That's equality. Boys and girls are built differently, and especially in a sport like hockey where there may be contact with the other players... I can already see the injury claims, sexual harassment claims (real and faked).

  • No deal :(

  • OMFG IT IS HOWIE MANDELL

  • poor frodo sam is dead!!lol

  • that talk show host is totally howie from deal or no deal

  • lmao

  • lmao i watched it @ skool yesterday and they skipped this part, so thx for putting it on utube :)

  • wow a play?

  • great short story. great movie. Recommended viewing for all the twits who serve in Canada's human rights commissions. you know in winnipeg the manitoba human rights commisssion recently forced men's high school hockey teams to permit girls to play hockey with the boys in the name of equality. and people think fiction like this is far fetched!

  • it's a great movie, and one of my favorite short stories, really shows what control can do

  • my school played it lol

  • Welcome to liberalism.. the road to hell is paved with good intentions..

"The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of the blessings. The inherent blessing of socialism is the equal sharing of misery. -- Winston Churchill "

This applies to the overall idea of absolute equality.. and the attempts to make everyone equal.. it can be tyranny.

  • @kgwickings

The idea is equality of opportunity, as in fairness. A concept conservatives hate, because they all were born with silver spoons in their mouths.

  • @whateverwhocares2 externally guaranteed fairness is a doctrine for the weak and ill-bred; a fairness that is the religion of mediocrity.

and what silver spoon did a Federalist like Alexander Hamilton get fed with? he was an orphan... nice try though.

  • @kgwickings

Liberalism is more about equality of opportunity. Not equality of everything.

    Liberalism is nothing like Communism.

  • @glasshour76 duh.

  • OMG, the hobbit was Tyler Durden all along!

  • I just saw this movie :)

It creeped me out so bad. good movie tho :P

  • It's a great story and a great movie

  • Behold an hero

  • wow thats wierd i just read this story in class

  • Budd Dwyer must be proud

  • im sure he is,

  • omg i did the play for this at my school! i was harrison!

  • I watched this movie in my ninth grade English class after reading the story.

  • hey i did the same thing in 7th grade

  • how this movie never came out on DVD nor VHS

  • I've been looking for this movie for over 10 years and I can NOT believe I found it.

  • thanks!!!!

  • this is so not like the story

  • That's Sean Astin. He is the eldest son of famous child tv star, actress Patty Duke and John Astin (Gomez of "The Addams Family.")

  • this is NOTHING like the short story!!!!!!

  • exactly! harrison did not shoot himself; a woman did as well as killed the ballerina whom he kissed

  • you're right this is completely off the main story

  • Diana Moon Glampers with a shotgun.

But this movie is good too.

  • iin the story the handicap policewoman shoots him and his mate with a .10 gauge double barrel shotgun. movie ending, way off.

  • O SHIT, LMAO, HOWIE MENDEL, man i didnt realize that was him until now.

  • The short story is a million times better, if he shoots himself, the point of the story is lost.

  • Yeah. This is better though. Because he shoots himself in the face. On national TV.

  • this is SO not the short story

  • no effin way in 1na my classes we have been watching this movie and just after the police wield down the door the bell rang so i couldnt see the ending but seriously this movie kicks ass i cannot believe he shoots himself in the end wow

  • thanks for uploading, im doing a project on this short story, and it will be great for it

  • what movie is this? I'm confused. Would like to watch it sometime.

  • "Harrison Burgeron"

  • ...wtf

  • Samwise is good in this one.

  • does any know where i nac find the hole version of this?

  • Actually, his spelling was alright except for "nac" lol. I guess a "hole" version would exist in 99bj88's empty cranium.

  • This was my favorite movie when I was 19. I wish there were more copies of it on Youtube. Especially the part where Chistopeher Plummewr is showing Sean Astin the black & white film to Beehtoven's Emperor Cocerto. It would have been really nice, if you included the follwong scene where Harrison's parents say, "What just happend? I'm not sure...something sad I think."
