For certain part; this movie make more sense than the story "2081".
"2081" it is more emotional (it focused on one man trying to convey message thru emotions) but it doesn't explain why intellectuals support that egalitarian system.
-In "Harrison Bergeron"; there are extensive dialogue between the supporter (the elite) and the opposer of the system (Harrison Bergeron).
Awesome video! If you have some time, please check out my final project from film school, a sci-fi drama entitled "NUMERICA" inspired by Kurt Vonnegut's 2 B 0 R 2 B.
It tells the story of a young couple struggling to have a baby in a world where overpopulation is rampant. In fact, for every child born an adult must volunteer to die.
If you haven't watched the entire film don't complain about this short excerpt. It would've been impossible to turn Vonnegut's original short story into an entertaining movie.
To be perfectly fair...Harrison Bergeron was a short story that if it and of itself was made into a movie with exact from the source material, well there wouldn't be quite enough. This movie doesn't claim to be exact representation of the short story, nor is it intended to be. It's just an adaption of the theme of the short story, enjoy it for what it is, or don't complain. : x
Thisis NOTHING like the book @ all!!! and he doesnt shopot himself!! the handicapper general shoots him and the dancer!!!! Trust me. ive just read the book in class for an essay i had tyo do!!
man the book was so sad, this was cool, but in the end of the book the parents dont even realize that he's dead. I just about cried while I was reading it.
You're right. johnnyshroom. The point of the short story is that socialism is grand and equality in every way is attainable in practice. Now don't you feel better?
Yea, but I didn't get here what missed the point, I didn't particularly like the story though, I didn't get the point of it, I don't consider the moral as clear as in 1984 for example.
well from what i see in this trailor, they altered some parts, a few of which are unbelievably important to the argument. for example, harrison and the ballerina floating to the ceiling at the climax, and then the story ending with them being shotgunned to the ground was vonnegut poking fun at the traditional story structures. and it also portrayed a completely different argument than harrisno shooting himself on a talk show does.
ok, its a short story, not a book, BUT, this is just another version, everyone makes their own version , i think im gonna film one as well, but try to stick exactly with the short story.. where Diana Moon Glampers shoots them as they are dancing, i have great ideass for this, .. good story too.
this has is nothing about the book and I could list about a thousand things that are different, but I won't. I have to credit this movie though because it wasted two classes in school.
yeah that's not the point. and that doesnt make it better than the book. the point is that he's murdered in the book. he kills himself in this- although he is basically murdered by what the government pushes him to do.
You guys dont understand. This guy is just imagine that it was only a hoax and that his son only faked it. He want to believe he`s still alive. But then *poff*
You people know this actually happened with Christine Chubbuck? Her bio is on youtube...I am ashamed that I am not more familiar with Vonnegut. When did he write the harrison bergeron story?
i know. i know vonnegut wrote it. but, this movie is a completely different story and shouldn't be promoted as "based upon the story 'Harrison Bergeron'....
A separate girls hockey team is good. That's equality. Boys and girls are built differently, and especially in a sport like hockey where there may be contact with the other players... I can already see the injury claims, sexual harassment claims (real and faked).
great short story. great movie. Recommended viewing for all the twits who serve in Canada's human rights commissions. you know in winnipeg the manitoba human rights commisssion recently forced men's high school hockey teams to permit girls to play hockey with the boys in the name of equality. and people think fiction like this is far fetched!

The ending was to shock and bring a stronger view point, which I thought was an excellent prop.
We all entitled to different opinions and to be ourselves, which i think is the moral of this film.
Peace.

The idea is equality of opportunity, as in fairness. A concept conservatives hate, because they all were born with silver spoons in their mouths.
whateverwhocares2 1 year ago
@whateverwhocares2 externally guaranteed fairness is a doctrine for the weak and ill-bred; a fairness that is the religion of mediocrity.
and what silver spoon did a Federalist like Alexander Hamilton get fed with? he was an orphan... nice try though.
