  • What actually is the meaning of this song?

  • @frammo99 Are you kidding? the meaning?. Ok, i'll give you 3 meanings for this song. 1-If you're at first base with a girl (or boy) go for it!!!. 2-The song means there is a guy (or gal) ready to move on to a commitment with a loved one. 3-It is JUST A SONG...and a bloody good one...ENJOY....lol

  • @ ollie241189- I just bought Bad Attitude for my father who absolutely loves this album... he had it on cassette and literally played it until it was destroyed by his player. This album came out in 84' I was only 2 yrs old. I'm 29 and I still rock the hell out of it like it was 84'. Severely underrated!

  • wow what a beautiful song wonderful meatloaf and jim steinman

  • Bad Attitude is a very very very underrated album!!!

  • THIS IS REAL MUSIC

  • What happened to the world i grow up the on meat loaf ,alice cooper ,iron maiden and anything Jim Steinman. and know we surrounded by shit rap music and tone deaf singers like lady gaga.

    thumbs up if you agree

P.S. if u like Jim Steinman music listen to endless appetite and total eclipse by STEVE BARTON their amazing

  • This must be the remix from the fabled American release of Bad Attitude. Sounds leagues better than the European version.

  • @jimbob4815 All of the U.S. releases of this album do sound like this. All the songs were remixed. I have both the U.S. and U.K. versions. There is a huge difference.

  • @HollywoodBigBoss I've only heard the remixed Surf's Up, Bad Attitude and Modern Girl, and they're leagues better than the Europe release. I just wish they'd rerelease this album or something so I could get it.

  • @jimbob4815 there is an album called alive in hell released in the uk has this version of the song plus bad attitude and modern girl, hope that helps u out :)

  • @jimbob4815 I'd disagree with you on that one respectfully. I think the UK version was better musically.

  • Great song off what I think was a great record Bad Attitude.

  • @pclarky007 Orginally off the album Bad for Good by Jim Stienman

  • Its bob from fight club!! :P

  • This is not the best i've seen Meat perform...but the intense performance usual of Meat is over whelming... these sre not his songs they're his performance! he acts out role plays Meat is the best

  • steinman and meatloaf BELONG together!!!

  • Another classic Steinman song ruined by Mr Loaf!!

  • @redno5f1masters Another? explain please..... :p

  • @ItsMoleMania JIm Stienman obviously wrote "BAT" but he also wrote an album called "Bad for Good" for Meatloaf but he couldnt record it due to losing his voice. Steinman released the album in his own name. It is full of brilliant songs which Meatloaf has since recorded and released. Personally i think the original Steinman versions are better. These were mostly sung for Steinman by their backing singer Rory Dodd!! Check out the album, well worth it!!

  • @redno5f1masters Just checked it out on Spotfy, and it's surprisingly good. Thanks!

  • Yay!!!!!! more of Meatloaf and Jim Steinman,,,,,, (i just found this, never heard it before)

  • I've alwasys LOVED this song...but this video doesn't do it for me.

  • jim's version is more fragile (love the falsetto) and the guitar solo is right on on that track...here it sounds overblown. There is also more space and depth on Jim's version.

  • I still prefer Jim's version even though his voice is weaker than Meats.

  • Nahh,,, the version on Bad For Good is much better, piano clearer and good base on the drums,,, this one is over produced, the origonal was more raw sounding..

  • Is it just me or does 2:39 not sound right? Other than that (even with that), this song is absolutely haunting!

  • @TheSavannahroberts Its just an audio blip. This is a 20 year old tape after all.

  • @WarioLoaf2D Of course. It's still amazingly beautiful, nevertheless :)

  • I actually like this version better than Rory Dodd's...which amazes me because I thought that could never happen.

  • Much Prefer Meats Version Than The Bad For Good Version, A Much More Powerful Voice :)

  • Great song!!! Good video!!! I can get it with full quality!!!

  • Iv always been a good admirer of meat loafs not so much publised songs. For instance i thought dont leave your mark on me was a good song and cheating in your dreams..

  • Imo, Meat Loaf killed it. You only have to listen to the piano at the start of the Bad for Good version, then compare it to this one - the piano has been simplifed by an amazing amount. On top of that, he changes it from a piano ballad to a rock song from the line 'body is burning like a naked wire'.

Not bad, but doesnt compare to Rory Dodds version

  • You're crazy. I don't even like the version on Bad for Good. This version is superior in every way. Again I say, this version by Meat Loaf is possibly the greatest love song/power ballad I've ever heard.

  • I may be going out on a limb here, but I'm inclined to think this is the greatest power ballad/love song I've ever heard in my life.

I'm pushing 40, and I'm a DJ, and I have literally thousands of albums, cassettes and CDs, so I've heard my fair share. There are many beautiful songs I love, but over the last 24-25 years, I always seem to come back to this one.

This song should've been #1 for a long time, and one of his most well-known songs. Shows there's no accounting for taste.

  • I've thought the same too - best rock ballad - the lyrics and mood are romantic - as the song reaches it's crescendo - it's sort of conjures up an orgasmic mood - but the album version is slightly better than this - misses some spots

  • What a hunk! I love him so much.. this is a fantastic song!

  • They should've placed this song on the very best of meatloaf CD,it's really good.

  • Agreed. In place of that yucky "Life Is A Lemon and I Want My Money Back". Lol!

  • Ooh someone disagrees with me.. boo hoo! Haha! Can't account for taste.

  • Personally I think nocturnal pleasures should have been removed as no one rushes to hear that 30-40 seconds track and also home by now/ no matter what as don't get me wrong I know lots of people like it but i felt it was too new for the very best of cd

  • @RockOn164 I agree that Nocturnal was amusing but pointless as a "Best of" track. I enjoy Home By Now / No Matter What, however. Almost anything that Meat Loaf can sing by Jim Steinman or Andrew Lloyd Webber is bound to be good, and as that was a collaborated song, it was special and worth including despite its age.

  • I think you are never going to get a 2disc very best of album that will please all true fans as I think on every album hes made everyone has at least a few tracks they would want to see included

  • @RockOn164 No doubt, same for all bands/artists.. I wouldn't be surprised if record producers aren't "skipping" on some of the best too, to make fans buy other albums in addition to Best of CDs. Can't expect to make money from them alone, and there are people who wait until a Best of is released because they don't want to buy anything else.

  • The collection Dunes is referring to is the two-CD, 18-song collection released in 1998, I'm assuming. "Surf's Up" could have been included IN ADDITION TO the other 18 songs, because there was enough space leftover at the end of both CDs to include it, along with other lesser-known gems such as "More Than You Deserve", "Getting Away With Murder" and "All Revved Up With No Place to Go".

  • Ya, I know the one he means I have a copy - "Life is a Lemon.." is track 2 on CD 1.. I'm not fond of it, I think this "Surf's Up" or something like "Bad Attitude" or "Piece of the Action" would have been much better choices. Each to this own, I suppose. Meat Loaf is one of those artists that has such a wide range of songs, that you can't always like them all.

  • didnt like this version at first. i prefered rory dodds version. but after listening a couple of times im loving meatloafs version now

  • Does the beginning kinda sound like "Object in the Rearview Mirror" to anyone else?

  • @abunchofdudes I think Objects sounds like a reworking of surf's up. That's what it seems like to me. And jimmy can do that....he wrote both songs.

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!

  • This is a beautiful, very under rated song written by Jim Steinman ,and Meat Loaf sings it very well

  • I completely agree!! Meat Loaf has some iffy songs, but this is a diamond in the rough!

  • only u tube can i find all therse classic vids i wonder why all therese went put on dvd

  • Wow, I haven't seen this video since the 80s. I think this is one of Meat Loaf's best songs.

I am SO TIRED of EVERY article, documentary or profile dissing Meat Loaf's 80's music. All they say is that his music from the 80's was commercially disappointing, etc. Just ONCE, I'd like them to say, "Despite lesser sales than 'Bat,' Meat Loaf's 80's work includes some of his best songs, such as "Modern Girl," "Surf's Up," etc. It's like they think his albums can only B good if "Bat" is in the title.

  • I agree this so mutch, I bought a book about the years 60 untill now about number 1 hits in Europe. I saw 2 times Meat with Paradise and AFL and they said he was almost like dead between those 2 songs .. Keep rocking ;)

  • bat out of hell was his best album. and everything on midnight at the lost and found was bad except for the title track and razors edge. blind before i stop was a good album and bad attitude had some good stuff. but compared to his monster 70's and 90's the 80's were subpar

  • Yeah, you said it,so called pro critics can be so damn closed minded when it comes to stuff like this.

And yeah,I think Meat's 80's tunes are defintely his best, just underrated is all.

  • Agree wholeheartedly. There was nothing at wrong with MATLAF, BBIS or BA, as any true ML fan will tell you.

  • Yeah, here's the standard narrative in any Meat Loaf documentary:

In 1977, Meat Loaf released Bat Out of Hell! (Discuss for 15 minutes)

In 1981, he released Dead Ringer! (Discuss for 10 minutes)

In 1993, he released Bat Out of Hell II! (Discuss for 15 minutes)

In between, he released three flops albums. (Discuss for 30 seconds, tops)

This should ALWAYS infuriate TRUE fans of Meat Loaf, who recognize that he has brilliant material in ALL phases of his career.

  • the clip could be better which would really bring out the essence of this song

  • @Myworstnightmare85 MeatLoaf made some of his best music in the 80's it is then when i first fell in love with his long haired rocker. Always will be a huge Meat fan & shall be blasting his music out when i am 90yrs old in my rockin' chair in the old folks home.

  • waves are pounding "on the sand tonight" man

  • when the waves pounding on the centre night, surfs up and so am iiiiiiiiii went to sleep listening to this back in 81 dreaming of a good swell the next day ,,,cronulla ruled,,Sydney

  • amazing song <3 one of my favorites!!!

  • how big would bat out of hell 2, of been,if jim and meat just sorted themselves out?

  • I just recently discovered this video as well as "Nowhere Fast" just yesterday. I didn't know they had videos. I DID know "Modern Girl" was a minor hit in its time, & therefore I figured it would have a clip, but I didn't know there were videos made for any other tracks on "Bad Attitude". That album & "Blind Before I Stop" were both underrated. It's sad that Meat Loaf is only known for the "Bat" projects.....

  • Lol Rory Dodd good back up singer. Not a patch on Meat Loaf tho. N Steinmans version is good but jus prefer this 1 lol

  • Jim steinman never had the voice really. Excellent songwriter one of the best but Meat Loaf was always the voice.

  • He had the voice for this one, Jim's is way better version

  • I've heard both versions, and although Rory Dodd is a very good singer, I much prefer Meat's version.

  • Comment removed

  • the guitar solo is so great on this song. and i love it.

  • as much as i love meatloaf. the rory dodd version on bad for good is much better

  • i have heard the rory dodd version and it cant beat this version

  • FYI Rory Dodd provided the male vocals in "Total eclipse of the heart". (another great Jim Steinman song). I do like Meatloafs vocals, but I prefer the original version with Rory Dodd on Jim Steinmans "Bad for Good".

  • The best Meat Loaf song of them all! Gem of a song !!!

  • This version is better than the original.

  • jim steinmans orginal recording of it is waaaaaayyyy better .

  • Totally agree with you, Jim did a better job on this one.......

  • Might be better but I still simply love the amount of emotion Meat instills into everything he sings...no one can do that as good as he can.

  • It may disapoint some of you, but Jim did NOT sing this song on "Bad for good". It was Rory Dodd.

  • no way! who the hell is rory dodd? I love that bad for good alubm

  • a guy who sang many demo-versions of jims songs. and yes, it's common knowledge regarding jim and that album.

  • @wayofnorth Actually They both sing. Jim starts and then Rory takes the high parts.

  • @wayofnorth Actually, it was both of them. Jim sings the beginning of each verse. You can hear the point at which they're both singing before Rory takes the much higher vocals.

  • @NonDairy Oh my god, yeah! So obvious when you know it. Rory's control is so much better. Hmm, not sure if I wanted to know that or not. It's such a personal song, feels kinda weird knowing there are two guys singing it. Although I suppose they could be singing it to each other XD

I wish Rory had sung on Left in the Dark. I LOVE the song but it's never been done justice IMO. The Bad For Good version has easily the best backing recording but the vocal is painful :(

  • @wayofnorth U LIE.I NEVER KNEW THAT.

  • @wayofnorth

Does Jim sing any of the songs on the album?

  • @ffmarkm yeah, most of them. But SO WHAT? Does anyone care who played Beethoven's fifth?

  • @ffmarkm Actually I am most familiar with Jim Steinman singing this.

  • i love this song but as much as i love meatloaf jim is the only one that sings it true

  • oh my gosh, i freakin love this song. his vocals are so amazing!

  • One of my favorite songs on the album...when Jim sings it!

  • Man, I always loved this song. One of my favorites by him.

  • Now where has this little gem been hiding...

    What an awsome ballad ^^

    Luffs Meat...

  • like it too =)

  • absolutely amazing!
