  • a most talented and beautiful performer, sadly missed.

Dave Holland is a superb player, and a gentleman.

A wonderful pairing for a classic tune

  • Priceless!!!!

  • Thank you Betty--Love you always---- amazing as usual

  • Correction.

Sassy was the best of all time.

  • The Best - EVER!

  • This is a fascinating video to me because I can't tell if Betty was purposely a couple beats off in the whole first chorus or just a little bit lost. Usually, if she's messing with the melody/beat, she'll do so for a little while and reel it back in at the bridge or top of the chorus. She (and Dave for that matter!) has such a good poker face, that even if she was a little lost, she covered it well. It happens to all of us, and I'm not sure whether she was or not, but fascinating. Great singer!

  • @postbop She's definitely not lost! Amazing performance!

  • @postbop I understand what you are saying as I thought that too, but when I watched his face as they played I believe that she was trying to underplay the moment and keep it gentle so that he could find the direction that he would feel comfortable with as he is also an improvisationalist and together they found the conversation that they did.

  • @postbop Seems Betty leaned over to Dave at the very start and asked for a slower tempo. He dropped the speed but it took a bit to get together. Regardless, it is a brilliant performance by both.

  • @postbop

she was so LIVE -- and watching her DO her music -- interacting with the band -- was so affirming

  • Is, She Believable or or What ../ Unbelievable, How Real and Great Betty Is ,I sure miss Her, VERY much...its Sad, When GREATNESS Leaves Us . Yet ,She Left a Legacy of Pure Art...

  • @DYNODRUM This is the beauty of our art form.... take the head and bend it, reshape it ...totally depart from it...carry it to outer space...and suddenly bring it back home when least expected by the listener.....Betty was the master of that approach..and to some extent...Mel Torme, and most certainly Mark Murphy and Kurt Elling...The tune "Sunshine of your Love" by Cream in the 60s' started out of sync at the recording session with Ginger Baker playing on 1+3 instread of 2+4. It stayed in!

  • @drummistic Right-On , True. Ginger was always an Innovator ,Saw Him Live ,Know His son,Drumming now is somewhat Dribble for the most of it..

  • The drummer at 5:25. It hit him, too.

  • Perfection!

  • amazing (both BC and DH) I never really had seen Holland in this light MONSTER!

  • she HAD the know how brilliant she was.........good Lord!...x

  • Hey, super! I saw her with this combo in a jazz club called Quasimodo in Berlin: A really nice memory!

  • True greatness.

  • Awesome. Nice one for putting this up.

  • really appreciate having this video and the fact that it's different from the one featured on the "feed the fire" recording. that's one of my favorite recordings and i love singing along with david holland's bass. so now i have something new to memorize. also got to see this band live at the sfjazz festival. abbey lincoln opened for betty and they performed "what a little moonlight can do." extra fun because geri allen didn't know the song, didn't have the music, but played anyway! i miss betty!

  • YES!!!!!!!! This is GREAT!!!!!!!
