You are absolutely right, this is NOT the Gospel Jesus taught. Unfortunately it is the general condition of Americans and humanity in general. These people want to have control over what happens to them, so they believe anyone who will tell them that, by following a certain course of action, they can avoid problems. It's like superstition, don't break a mirror if you don't want bad luck, and so on. The God of the Bible is full of surprises, and some people prefer to be bored!

A clip like this makes you feel real good about religion, huh? That preacher (Benny Hinn) had a large compound in my hometown of Orlando. The local media started doing some investigation into his finances and he quickly left town and headed to Texas and the compound has some other preacher in there now. I believe Benny's in Dallas now with an even larger church with attendance in the tens of thousands. This is the same guy who touches/breathes on/waives to "heal" people who need healing.

Good job making people aware of this. The bible says that preaching for money (and this includes Protestant & Catholic preachers who don't support themselves) is an abomination to the Lord. True tithing (biblical 10%) goes not to the preacher's livlihood but for buildings, lesson books, etc.
