continuity error.. @ 1:23 #70 (who was actually Steve Niehaus, not what looks like "Borisy") lays his jersey on top of the jersey of #1 "Anderson" (even though #1 in 1975 was Kerry Moriarty..).. three more jerseys pass, then at 1:33 they repeat it #70. ALSO. #21 was Daniel Knott, not "Roland" or whatever.

I don't feel that the issue should be so much whether this did or didn't happen; yes, we do want to know that, and it is a legitimate question. However, I think the more important point is that this is what the players could have done, and would have done for Rudy. Perhaps Devine was furious, but he also must take into account that it is a movie and there is fiction mixed in even with movies based on true stories. I have no problem with this not being fully accurate.
I had always suspected that this isn't QUITE white happened, but nevertheless, this scene made me cry. The fact that so many starting players were willing to sit out for the final game of the year because they knew that Rudy deserved to play in at least one game before he graduated, was absolutely beautiful. It's a shame that selflessness such as this is so rare.
according to Wikipedia, Coach Devine had announced that Rudy would dress for the Georgia Tech game during practice days earlier. this scene never really happened, although Rudy said Devine changed his mind only after a number of senior players requested that he play. apparently Devine was furious about this scene, saying "the jersey scene is unforgivable. its a lie and untrue." Joe Montana, who was on the team at the time, also confirmed that this never happened
As I understand it, this was at least suggested by a couple of players but certainly Rudy did not nearly cause an all out revolt on the part of the team - what we have here is a mutiny against their poor unsuspecting coach
My high school teacher played football for Dan Devine. Said he was the most negative mean spirited coach he ever played for.
