@MrAnswerman1000 - Yes, he seemed a bit amused or was anticipating some discomfort and was signalling this to someone behind the camera. It was quite off putting nonetheless. It would find this annoying if people did this during a class.
very nice video. Do you teach/learn traditional Japanese Jujutsu (with weapons, strikes, kicks, and grappling)? Or just the grappling part of Jujutsu (Judo)?
@kappanisan yes but they originated in jujutsu, the Japanese samurai based & adopted martial art. Judo took these chokes and the names of these chokes from jujutsu.
@Figaro880 No way dude. Most fights end up on the ground, that's why every MMA fighter has wrestling experience. Plus it's rare to execute a judo throw on a dude that's so effective that you take him out of commission with it. And if you get in a good throw, you gunna wait for him to get back up to keep fighting? Or are you gunna take position while he's down and essentially win the fight with a choke or an arm bar? Personally I'd do the latter.
@XxSLAMHAMMERxX - A few years ago, in promoting their version of JJ, the Gracies stated '95% fights end up on the ground.' In MMA scenarios this is believable. But in real street conflicts I highly doubt it. My personal experience (emergency medical field) is that most people involved in fights have either been struck on the scalp or face with a fist or blunt object, or have injured their hands from punching incorrectly. I barely see someone who's been arm locked or choked.
@henh32 It makes perfect sense that blunt trauma effect from strikes and people hurting their wrists by punching incorrectly are what you see most often; it's instinctive for humans to fight by punching/clubbing. But my argument wasn't that chokes and submissions were the most effective means of fighting, rather just more so than a judo throw. How many times have you encountered an injury due to a deliberate, well executed throw?
@XxSLAMHAMMERxX - In my experience, injuries due to deliberate throws are rare compared to blunt trauma strikes. I have seen a couple of very bad ones though (Scapula fracture, skull fracture etc from throw). Additionally the most common mode of fractures elsewhere is from falls onto hard ground.
The majority of street fights I believe are alcohol related, in which case dojo practice often becomes irrelevant and technique is often primal ( depending on level of intoxication of course!). Regards
@ishikawaml - Yes, probably. In the past few days, I have seen a couple of stabbings and alot of face/scalp strikes from fists, crow bars etc. In ALL the conflicts I've seen, NONE have turned into a Ne Waza match.. and the aggressors AND victims were mostly simply thugs, not trained martial artists.
MrMZaccone.. This is simply a demonstration of where your grips need to be. Not intended for tactical demonstration. As sloppy as they might look to you, they do the job in cutting off the blood flow.

people are ignant sometimes man. they dont know that a gi replicates clothing people would wear out on the street. how often would u be in a fight or have to defend urself against a shirtless dude? even so, theres still plenty of ways to take a guy like that out
@layzie187x I agree I've had to use a T-shirt to choke someone before and it works fine. The poor T-shirt was wrecked afterward but I didn't care lol The reason the gi is thicker is so it doesn't get trashed after every class.
This is judo or jiujitsu.? I want to practtice judo but i like jj for this moves.

I think at okuri-eri-jime and kata-ha-jime the larynx has to be in the crook of the arm and not at the wrist. This could be dangerous.

This guy's chokes are pathetically loose and sloppy and his set-ups are without the slightest tactical intent.

the third one, the Katahajime, is also a former pro wrestler's (Taz) finishing move.
Even tho wrestling might be 'Fake' they use some real moves for sure.

true, but a t-shirt, jacket, sweater etc works pretty good too. Our thinking is that if they are shirtless, use a different technique.
