one thing is very wrong with this 5 series model or all 5 series model that came out in 2005 is that the i-drive is very complicated. they said that there were gonna make the funtions easier to use. otherwise everything is great in this model

Hi Mickey, If you are American they probably dont do them that small there. I got the 520D. Entry level Engine here (Ireland). Stats are: 177bhp 0-62mph=8.3 sec MPG=54. Not going to be doing any Drag Racing but the cost of ownership is good as 5 years servicing thrown in also.

Again like fuel, taxes on cars here are big. My car last year would have set me back €54K with the extras I have. Got it for €41.4k In US speak thats circa $56.4k

TheRickified. In my country, a lot of successful youngish people drive Mercedes Benz. Audi are very popular. I have a great respect towards the beautiful Bangle 5 series; but please don't rubbish quality competitors. It's not a clever thing to do.

The Bangle designed 5 series BMW is a fabulously beautiful car both outside and in. Chris Bangle is certainly a design genius with the 5 series. I really hope that the new 5 series saloon will still look beautiful. An absolute shame Chris Bangle has left BMW.

BabkenBMW. I truly love the looks of this beautiful car. Chris Bangle has now left BMW unfortunately. Please don't rubbish the competitors. The new E Class Mercedes Benz is a fabulous car. Mercedes Benz have taken trouble and fixed the reliability. Audi and Lexus must be respected. The new European Honda Accord has been voted No.1 for reliability etc by "Which" in the UK. I have been in one and they are excellent quality. I love this 5 series.

This 5 series is incredibly popular in the UK and Ireland. I also noticed a lot of them on the road in the South of France last summer. Last January an enormous number of them came off the HSS ferry at Holyhead coming home to the UK and then a very large number also on my HSS ferry crossing back to Dunlaoghaire.

As I mentioned before, it is a terrible shame that Chris Bangle was forced to change jobs and now of course he has left BMW. As a designer he has wonderful flair. This car (latest update)looks so pretty. so many new designs are awful. In a different price range I love the new Citroen C5.

In January I was returning to Ireland about to put my car on the fast HSS ferry at Holyhead. First I had to wait whilst they emptied the HSS as it had brought UK holydaymakers home.I couldn't believe how many Bangle shaped BMW 5 series drove off the boat. There were also plenty of them going over on my crossing afterwards (3 on my car park level).

The inside of this vehicle (especially the dash board area) looks austere and bland (compared to the Lexus GS 350 or GS 450h) and its more expensive than any of these two. The value of a German vehicle (like this one) does not justify its cost in any way (considering the fact that similarly durable and equipped vehicles are much cheaper), some with an AWD version.

I own a 2006 520SE Diesel and this is the best car I've ever owned. The fuel consumption is really economical too, despite the size of the car. The iDrive is well worth it. I recommend this car to anyone who is thinking of buying one.

And if you decide to not buy it, then a get a 3 series, trust me its well worth the money spent and the civic doesnt even come close to performing alongside a bimmer. BMW have done a good job on the 5 series.The cream leather is nice,so is the boot because its massive!,the sat nav,the the wood trim,the diesel and petreol engines(I wonder if they have any TD engines?)the pasanger space is good.The only problem is how much is the car?Ive seen the top of the range one is 150,000euros.Lovely German car but its just too dear here i guess ISH.If u want this car u better have money cause it's 150,000euros! total rip off although it is worth it if u have the money

Just to add to the Lexus / BMW thing. I had BMW saloons for years then moved to the Scottish Highlands and decided I needed a 4x4. Couldn't get an X5 in time for my first winter so got a Lexus RX300SE. Bad move ! Couldn't wait to order an X5 in time for the following winter. It was great to be back with BMW. Have now decided I don't really need a 4x4 anyway ! So have just ordered a 525iSE and can't wait !

Sure Lexus makes great cars with lots of extras for your money it just isn't at the level of BMW (yet).

Just for the record, my fellow-beamer-owner the latest models of diesel engines' emissions meet the criteria of Euro-5 & Euro-6 instructions of the EU, which are the strictest standards ever put on this issue.

also to the DeNiro comment, lexus looks age QUICKLY a lexus from 3 years ago has that same bog standard square shape and tacky "lexus" lights. Japanese cars are known for thier reliability but so are german brands.
