The video was already was on utube.I just recorded it , pitched it from c sharp minor to C minor thanks to "audacity" ,a freeware.(fantastic!by the way!) and reloaded it.
The thing is, that I changed the tune without changing the speed, What is brilliant with this freeware!Otherwise the tempo would have been changed as well and the sound would have been horrible.What is interesting it is that you seem to hear a better sound now, while it is the same! What means that the original video on youtube had been pitched back to front probably because of technical problems , and it sounds better in C minor that in C sharp minor ....the wrong tune!!!
Any chance you could upload this again, only this time with better resolution? The sound is great (thanks for re-pitching it) but the visual-quality is a bit blurry.
From what I've read, Karajan had his orchestras tune to A=445Hz (as opposed to the standardized 440), so though you may have perceived the recording as being too high, it may have actually been played that way. (the difference from 440 to 445 is less than a semitone, but enough to be noticeable.) Also, concert pitch is higher today than it was when this was written, so Beethoven heard it even lower than this.
I pity all you perfect pitchers out there, especially if you are are Bach lovers.How awful it must be trying to adjust from a Karl Richter cantata performance to a Leondardt one with the old pitch setting, and what about all those awful recent recordings on harpsichord and organ where they abandon equal temperament?Come on , admit it -you just adjust and enjoy it like the rest of us. P.S. I hear notes in my head too, but I've given up trying to name them.
To all the ones who claim that this is the ''exact pitch'' beethoven heard when he composed the fifth: don't forget that the tuning was quite a bit lower at his time.
Beethoven’s symphonies are not only the greatest musical masterpieces of all time, but the pinnacle of all human artistic achievement. The levels of technical complexity, artistic beauty, intellectual and emotional depth contained in that music are utterly unrivalled. How anyone could choose Justin Bieber dog shit is beyond me.
@KodierungHerz When you compose a music, you hear it in your head in a certain tone, it is as a language:in French, in Italian, in English... Thus, there is 12 tones ( major and minor )or 24 in everything. If Beethoven composed in C minor, it is not in minor C sharp!!! It is the height of the piece of music .That sounds not similar!it's higher!
@barthoproduction To make it even more complicated, in Beethoven's time, the tuning system was such that it would have sounded somewhere in between C minor and Bb minor :(
@KodierungHerz Every tone has its own identity, as colors: if it is blue, it is not purple! The same thing in Music . you can hear it, without understand the process! And it is a treason for Beethoven to hear a minor C sharp instead of a C minor, what he heard! .Not the true pitch! I hope that this explanation will help you
@KodierungHerz No, he didn't : the video was wrong pichted because of it's age or what ever when it was downloaded on youtube.I just re-pitched the sound track into the true C minor!
@KodierungHerz allow me to untangle this web of shit... simply put, while Beethoven was actively writing, the key of C minor came to be known as "his key"... meaning, he and his music where exceptionally at home in that key... which is why people have a hissy fit whenever any piece of his that's in C minor isn't EXACTLY that way... as if the bloody piece of music lost it's piss... people play Bach in different keys than written all the time...the work of art hasn't been cheated by doing that
In regards to this original recording recorded in c# minor, I don't think they actually played in C# minor. I have heard other recordings off pitch before on several recordings of various pieces from all genres. It is most likely due to the age of the recording.
@nakedBison69 (AKA Raymond) is a troll. If you Google his screen name you will find that this is all this loser does with his life. You will also find that Raymond here killed three helpless bunnies. @Leibelamour Ingen fattar vad du säger förutom andra tyskar/tysktalande ironiskt att jag påpekar det men utöver det så håller jag med dig. Förutom (<igen) att jag inte "älskar" karajan eller Beethoven.
bartho, thanky you! that is the perfect version of the 5th. but damn youtube will delete it when it gets too famous because there are the so called property rights. so please: keep this video on your computer, so you can broadcast it again under new name XD

@barthoproduction
Just asking, did you change the pitch alongside the speed, or without?
The latter sounds shittier, but I can't tell when the difference is so small.

How, exactly, did you correct the pitch on the video. What is the source, a VHS tape? It's a shame that the visual-quality is so blurry...
