  • Wow! just brought two new kindles for the kid,s and guess what, no sound! which I thought was a great feature of my old one. Secondly why haven't Amazon paid more attention to its greatest selling point. And I don't mean being able to down load free ebooks. Its the ability to change the font size. My mother loves this feature as she is partially sighted. No if Amazon only made the buttons that turn the page more visible, maybe she would find using it a little easier. Nice try Amazon but no cigar

  • @Sacario7000 Do you normally read books in ink colors other than black?

It's an E-Reader, not an iPad...

  • the page screen and ink display are just plain sexy

  • FREE.`;IPAD_2',;GIVEAWAY...

    COPY':;THE..:ADDRESS:.,

  • nook vs kindle idk witch is better

  • @dlugosch1 both have an extensive array of books available for purchase, though for me Nook is a no go as they don't sell ebooks to Israeli customers. however, the NOOK supports ePub files, which means you can buy ebooks from anywhere on the net and transfer them into your device. with Amazon, you have to either purchase directly from Amazon's Kindle Store, or elsewhere as an ePub file, and then convert that file to the Kindle's format, which is called MOBI.

  • the nook is still the best

  • Anybody here ever read "Teenage Vigilante" on the Kindle?

  • Hi guys, I am selling 195,000 eBooks for the Amazon Kindle through ebay for 7.99. Anyone interested send me a message on maxfg18@yahoo.co.uk.

  • @exposed97 it looks like a gameboy

  • I like the Kindle, but i'll stick to reading on my smart phone. While the kindle is easer on the eyes in bright light, I do most of my reading in bed and would need to put in additional lighting. Additionally, I have a full ebook library already, and I'm not sure I can sideload those books on to it.

  • I have a kindle DX for a little over a year and the screen went black. I called the Anazon customer service but to no avail. The support person was not nice and did not offer anything constructive and suggested that I buy a new one.

I am VERY disappointed with the Kindle DX and their customer service. I strongly recommend you DONT BUY THE KINDLE

  • Can you put music on it?

  • get your kindle here watch?v=Fo70scy41Z8

  • Kindle 2 on sale for $89 at Amazon on Black Friday (11/26), just fyi.

  • i am sooo happy about the kindle!! i can lay in bed and read without getting tired of holding it!!! i love it i cant wait to get mine!!

  • want to get one for christmas

  • @boxsetnoah1 Get a kindle 3! =D

  • if u shake the screen wouldn't the particles get shaken and distort the screen?

  • smaller screen now!

  • Can I upload my own PDF files onto the Kindle? without any cost? If so how is that done?

  • @EWLGtoday The Kindle plugs into your computer with a USB cord so once you do that you just drag and drop directly into the drive folder. There are also software programs you can download to convert pdf files into other formats, my personal favorite is Calibre which easily converts from pdf to mobi or azw and its free. Or if you don't want to be bothered I think there is some kind of way you can email it to amazon as a pdf and they send back an azw. I'm hardly an expert but I hope this helps.

  • you can actually download comics/manga onto the kindle

  • WHERE ARE THE PICTURES? WHAT IS A BOOK WITHOUT PICTURES?!?!? COME ON!

  • So what, can you surf the web with these things?

  • I still like building up a bookshelf.

  • @ViolentZucchini cannot agree more:)

  • @ViolentZucchini ikr its fun but with the KIndle you can read on the go. I wass against it but now I think its pretty cool instead of haveing go to some book store in another city for a book when you can just download it right into our hands

  • @ViolentZucchini yup yup, these ebook are good, but they'll never replace the feel of real book at hand.

    Still getting it though :D

  • @ViolentZucchini me too, . kindle comes in handy for travel

  • u suck

  • I want colors!!

  • @ianthonyfarez Yeah man nobody reads fuckin words nemore i mean lol. only faggots read books that just got text in them u no what im sayin? comics n grafic novels are wear its at !!!!

  • @MrSquitwet I think your opinion explains why you're so bad at english. Books are eternal my friend :)

  • @MrSquitwet

No, only morons who have no sense in life don't read books. If you aren't going to write positive comments, then you might as well stop commenting on this video. If you don't understand that, I'll gladly re-write it in your way "stop wrting bad comens u dumfuk."

  • @bout435 stop wrting bad comens u dumfuk

  • Ive heard that if you want something primarily for reading this is the way to go, but if you want something to have fun with in the car or on the coud the ipad is the way to go, either way this is a much more affordable way to go.

  • Reading is for queers.

  • @MrSquitwet wow you suck dick biatch

  • @MrSquitwet then why are you here idiot!?

  • this looks rubish just get the ipad :)

  • @adude256 the ipad is good, but not for reading. if you want to get an ebook reader than get a kindle. The ipad's light is bad for your eyes and you aren't able to read it outside(unless it's night). However, the ipad is still good, just not very good for reading.

  • I dont own any of them but I think nook looks better.

  • I'm getting the new one as an early christmas present right when it comes out, can't wait at all.

  • I bought the nook, no regrets.

The NOOK has horrible software problems when it first came out which made it frustrating and laggy but the new patches have smoothed out the very rough edges. Besides battery life, there is really nothing better about the kindle 2.

I'm not a fan of the clumsy 80s style buttons of the kindle either.

  • I'm buying one of these, time to get with the times.

  • I want one...I_I

  • actually its $189 ... check amazon

  • @AstronomyGuru1 what do u mean by resistive touch screen? if you mean is it very responsive the answer would be yes, the product itself is just a great! =)

  • @AstronomyGuru1 Nope. Capacitive.

  • the kindle sucks get the ipad its so much better u can play games check email watch videos and pretty much anything a computer can do and the ipod touch can

  • @locogirl227

The IPAD doesn't use the reading technology that the kindle uses so it strains your eyes and its much heavier and has a far inferior book selection, not to mention you only have 10 hours of battery life and you have a weeks worth of battery life on a kindle. For readers, the Kindle is hands down superior to the Ipad. Reading on an Ipad is a secondary feature, the kindle specialized in it.

  • @Nopartyforme1 Well Weell The Kindle Cant Play Tap Tap Revenge

  • @Nopartyforme1 I agree with you. The ipad causes eye strain and please be honest, everyone will be attracted to c heck their email or whatever when you have a ipad but kindle is just books

  • @Nopartyforme1 who cares the i pad is still a mad thing any way....plus some people like touch screen..(i hate it but i still think i pads are cooler.. not better just cooler)

  • @Nopartyforme1 a months battery

  • Strictly speaking this isn't a review. It's a sales pitch.

  • Battery power measured in WEEKS?

  • @SuperNintendoCrew21 Yes. I usually only charge my kindle once or twice a month, and I read quite a lot. Part of that is caused by me not leaving my Wireless on unless I am downloading something, though.

  • ONLY 189 DOLLARS NOW!

  • @moviebuffreviews - Yup see the video we attached. Amazing value, if you are just looking for a dedicated e reader.

  • WOW FOR ONCE IT WILL BE FUN TO READ A BOOK !!! not

  • i am so confused. dont know whether to get the kindle or the nook! ive decided that until they develop an ereader will less problems, ill just stick to the library

  • @alwaysbeenaninja two days ago i got the nook i love it. I was having the same same problem debating on which one i liked better but since the nook has the touch screen and to me its faster it makes it a lot better. My aunt has the kindle and we tested it the nook changes pages faster and it just is all around a better system.

  • nook makes this look like a relic from the ice age.

  • @popsizl

What, because it has a horribly annoying touch-screen on the bottom?

  • this thing looks like a peace of shit...get the ipad :)

  • @iPodmaster9628 the iPad sucks.

  • @boricuamamii2009 im getting it tomorow

  • @iPodmaster9628 i already have it :)

  • @boricuamamii2009 Why does it suck?

  • ipad own this one

  • i find that I more often want to read in the dark ... ie. backlit screen ... than in the bright sunlight. I virtually never need to read in the bright sunlight. That's why I got the iPad. The Kindle is also very slow to change pages. One thing I really love is the text to speech ... which the iPad does not really implement well. It also costs a lot and is ONLY a reader. I hope Amazon gets this better in the future, or just uses software on other platforms since they are not a device maker.

  • @themountainviewguy it's made to ONLY be a reader, idiot.

  • i'd buy this so fast.i think it's good cuz now we dont need to cut trees for book and stuff like that...

  • @Madzho89 LOL

  • @Madzho89

    -

Trees are grown specifically to be cut down to be used for printing books; they are called "paper farms" -- maybe you should look that up sometime. So, no, the rain-forest isn't being cut down to print your precious Curious George books.

  • @MrSquitwet

Actually, forests are cut down to fuel our Curious George books. Although it is true that there are paper farms and they help to compensate for the paper demand, there are far too few of them to supply all the necessary paper. In addition, with this technology, paper farms can be converted to permanent forests. Either way, this is an environmentally friendly device.

  • @Madzho89

Agreed. Not only that, but now old texts can be preserved more easily.

  • nook is better... go into a local B&N and try it out for free!!! ... whoops... can't try Kindle!

  • @Electriclarryland97

Nook feels very.... cheap. It's not as thin as the Kindle, and I am having difficulty finding books on the Nook that I can easily find on the Kindle. For example, the first book in the Drizzt Legacy. It's on the Kindle, but not on the Nook. Why is that?

  • @Electriclarryland97 How can someone compare the two if they can't try out the Kindle? Further, how did you compare the two?

Seems someone settled for an inferior ereader, and is now trying to sell it as if he would receive commission for doing so. Lol.

  • is the free 3G in Canada as well?

  • I don't know why anyone thinks that flashing screen is an issue. That's like saying blinking is an issue. You really don't notice at all. It's pretty much over with by the time you look from the bottom to the top.

  • Is that flashing screen thing annoying?

  • The key issue with the Kindle is its lack of easy support for user-generated content like the iPad, Sony and the Nook. I have a cool tutorial about the .epub format that DOES run on the iPad. See my deep-level description of the file format. Just cut and paste this on the end of the video address in your Web browser: vvGrFZdSDww

  • @jeremykemp Free application named Stanza destroys this little nonexistent theory of yours about the Kindle being incompatible with ePub. Conversion with Stanza & Calibre is rather easy, and the ereader itself is top of its class as far as the market currently goes; I wouldn't lump the iPad -not a primary reader- in with something designed only to read books.

Would you compare a high-quality bicycle to your car? Why not, doesn't the car go faster? It's not the same thing at all.

  • iPad!!!

  • @theJORDANryan FTW~!!!!!

  • There are so many fucking idiots in here... what is so hard to understand about how buying e-books on Amazon works?

You buy the fucking book. You login to your account. You can read the books anywhere you can login. If you login on your iPhone, you can read your books. If you login with your iPad, you can read your books.

    List goes on and on.

It's like logging onto YouTube or Facebook. It's not like your account is frozen to your computer.

  • Kindle 4 life motherfuckas!

  • Why is it Black and White?cheap.and You can't do anything when you buy the book except read it and it doesn't transfer to your device!you have to have internet to read it again,so stupid!

  • @chikensaregood

    -

The screen isn't black & white.

  • Feels so good when I cuddle up with Kindle's hard and ugly self on the sofa....how gently it hits my face when I fall asleep reading it in bed and it falls off my hands...as for reading it in the bathroom....exactly what's needed for an area that steams up its face so i can't see anything.....

I didn't even try it in my jeans' back pocket when I go to the park...

Thank God it was a gift and i spend no money on a ridiculous piece of technology that will never take the place of a book ....

  • Roneage - of course I will! I am going to travel overseas and don't want to carry a whole load of guide books and paperbacks. Rather than try to find a dog eared paperback in the hotel library, I'll download the exact book I want to read (cheaper than buying a paper version) and read it with my luggage weighing no more.

  • You don't actually "buy" the book, you purchase a license to read the book. You don't "own" the book.

  • @Doggieman1111 Just as when you "buy" a book. You bought paper and are licensed to read it.

  • @Bogie3Flare you can sell, bequeath, or give your book to others. You can't transfer your kindle e-book to others. It's a more restrictive form of "ownership" than a real book.

  • @Doggieman1111 u mean that the book wont be stored on the device itself?! like, i cant for example send it to the computer or print it out?!

  • @hbkhani It will be stored on the device but you can't transfer it to another device or sell it to someone, as you can a real book. When you buy a real book you own it and can do whatever you want with it (except copy it). This you only have a license to read it.

  • can you store books to it from computer

  • uhh... the looks pretty crap... black and white screen, and web browsing isnt supported... so let me ask you... are you really going to spend the money on a book reader??? when u have to buy the books to put on it too?! only a fool would do such a thing....

  • I already have a lot of pdf files can i wack it on a sd card and read the books from the sd card?

  • @fox20012 nope, you can email them to the device.

  • it could be better if you could be able to save something like an exercise book and you could write on it using a stylus. dont really want a touchpad but i would like a stylus enabled pad so that i can write on it. i reckon if they make it like that it would be the exercise book of the future

  • could i download books for my college courses?

  • Yes, provided that the book is published in an e-book format.

  • Kudos. Very well structured review. Told me everything I needed to know. Won't be getting a Kindle due to the price, but at least now I know what I'm missing! :)

  • So Kindle does not just equal books. It also means magazines, blogs, and newspapers. This you can only do on an iPad with limitation and a wi-fi connection. If I am in a car or in an area without that, I cannot easily get that content digitally. Also, a Kindle is a PDF reader. To say that the Kindle can only read books is cutting it short. The Kindle and iPad are 2 completely different devices. One is a fantastic eReader. The other is a bigger iPod Touch with more features.

  • @scholarwarrior You yourself mention that the iPad and Kindle are two different category of devices and were marketed for different purposes and yet you're still comparing them. What's the matter, afraid that the iPad will cripple kindle ebook market share?

Anyway, the iPad is a portable multitouch computing device - currently the best of its kind; Kindle is a portable e-reader device - currently the best of its kind. Comparing them is like comparing a great musician to a great painter.

  • @g0rsk13g4n9st4 Not scared at all. I was actually comparing them in a way that shows that they are 2 different devices. I was pointing out that there are things that the iPad does not do that the Kindle does and vice versa, therefore they serve a different purpose. I do not own either. I just get tired of the foolish comparisons. That's why I commented.

  • @scholarwarrior Yeah, I agree with you on everything except the iPad=bigger iPod Touch. I actually do own both the iPad and Kindle DX and they're both great.

  • @scholarwarrior

how can it rival magazines and blogs properly with no colour?

  • @mattmit The Magazines so far on the iPad mostly suck. The selection is on the Kindle. While an iPad has the POTENTIAL to have offer magazines, so far the selection has been subpar.

  • @scholarwarrior

I haven't checked the magazines on iPads yet, and I can imagine blogs are no use if they include flash video. Then again that wont be possible on the kindle either. Not sure how kindle could do colour though. I need an iPad for portable digital painting, and might enjoy some comics on it too. Forget all the fanboy hype about the iPad, most people who want one are a bunch of starry eyed shoreditch twats, in trilby hats and pointy shoes, but I actually need one for painting on.

  • @scholarwarrior it only does black and white so unless if fashion turns into noir then it cannot do magazine pictures. just articles

  • @BartenderMix Go to the Amazon Kindle magazines section on their website. Look at the selection that they have. Then, go to the iTunes store and look at the selection that they have. I mean actual magazine apps, not just apps. Then, look at the reviews. The selection is horrible, and the apps are not that great yet. Until they actually get real marketable magazine content like Kindle, color means nothing. As a reader, it has a long way to go.

  • Its all about media content and how they get it. People are not reading newspapers anymore because of sites like digg, but also because of convenience, cost, or time to go buy a newspaper. The Kindle offers a viable option. To me, checking the New York Times website or any other news website by a newspaper is a crappy experience. To wake up and be able to download a newspaper or a magazine to a Kindle is a nice option, especially if I don't have wi-fi around.

  • i have oneee

    i named him mikey :)

    loll i love my kindle

and the ipad cud just drop in a well

  • can you down load the bible om it ?

  • Almost certainly.

  • Yep. Hundreds and hundreds of different versions of it.

  • Sweet, i want one now, thanks for the info take care be safe

  • @Restarea11019V Why do you want that?

  • so i can have it read it to me when i am driving, i'm just trying to be a better person

  • just got my Kindle as an early birthday present and i love it! The only critisms i have are that the keyboard takes some getting used and some books are hard to find. LIke I searched for Harry Potter and I got everything about Harry Potter BUT the actual books by Rowling. I guess they assumed that everyone already has them and dosen't want to read them in e-Book form.

  • omg our school is getting these...

  • @TheBrookeRadical wow! those are so expensive though! you must go to a nice school :)

  • @sugarcookie182 nuhh just a gay one :l

  • Is there a colored e-ink? And what's the qwerty used for?

  • haha the ipad is like HUGE

  • I wonder...

What sort of materials can I download in Kindle? For example can I download Hong Kong's newspaper?

Does it support microsoft word, powerpoint?

Can I drop notes on the 'book' to aid my reading?

Is there a quick dictionary check?

Does it has a touch screen?

  • @hughming yeah, you can add notes to yur books and there is dictionary check, it isnt touch screen

  • I want one real bad but idk if its worth it when the ipad is coming out and it has books and loaddddds more

  • @RocMerc Yea, so do tablet PCs- You can get one of comparable size to the iPad for half the price, 4+ times the capacity, and run most/all common windows apps. (U810). Yea it has a physical kb too! You can get a mobile card to be built into it, and it'll still be cheaper.

Keep in mind, I do not own either device. I just know that now that apple made a tablet, all other tablets will be 'copying' even though they came out first. Typical media does this.

  • Ya i weighed the pros and cons for quite sometime and finally came to the conclusion to buy the Kindle and I'm loving it.

  • lol ipad is gay

  • @RocMerc when it come to health its DEFINATELY worth it because Kindles are very good to the eyes because it uses e-ink and i believe that technology is expensive now. This will be very good for university or typical academic nerd.

  • I got it about a week ago and I love it very much so far. I have read two books since getting it and it feels like your reading real paper. Its nuts

  • I really want to get an e-reader but cant decide what. s which one should i gte nook or indle? and why?

  • ipad?

  • U should get the kindle 2 it has 3g ware ever you go, it has games, and is faster at turning pages and downloading books the kindle is the original and all the rest of the ebook readers are just fake imitations of it

  • @skai30 check the barnes & noble nook!!! same thing but way better!! it also has 3g and wifi!!!

  • @skai30 nah, get an iPad. They have a better screen and all the Kidnle books too. Although ALL e-books are shit tbh, nothing beats the greatness of a proper book.

  • @skai30 or you could just get the ipad 3g .

  • @skai30 Actually, Sony came first. It has the same features, but Sony's device is sleeker, has a touchscreen, and can read in the ePub/Word/RTF/txt/PDF format.

  • Switching pages makes me dizzy. I hate that flashing screen every time I press something...

  • @shmookins I think I'm not buying this just because of that =S

  • btw this review is suck.

    get a cool camera one.

we don't see anythings much at the body.

  • @SamuelsMom1 the ipad is bigger than this, it's not look like you're reading when looking at the ipad. this my opinion. and someone doesn't prefer that thing can does anything. look at the point of the things is READING. However, apple ipad is actually cool.

  • ah kante rade ore spale how is ah sapose ta reed ah mashine book

  • I have stock options in both Kindle and Apple ....Please Buy.........

  • I bought one immediately and played Operation Flashpoint on it, amazing tool for gaming the hole day !!!

  • seriously i hate when people say oh yea the kindle is better because it uses E-ink now come on..... i have a mac and a pc.... and im reading emails all day doing homework and papers and playing video games and not once do i rub my eyes or get bothered by the light and hey the ipad can lower brightness.... now ask yourself this if your a person whose on their pc or mac for long periods of time doing work do you're eyes tend to burn or do you feel to have a need to rub you're eyes

  • I don't like this review because it doesn't offer ANY criticism for the kindle except the price.

  • I would just buy a PAPER BOOK.

  • Ok, Ipad people, apple is like the friggin' revolution. But some people want to read, because they have to many books or whatever reason. They don't want something that does EVERYTHING, because that defeats the purpose of a book. In this case, the ipad is not necessarily better.

  • ok. I dont own a Kindle nor a Sony Reader, but I am reading countless reviews to decide which way to go. Im kinda leaning toward Sony. Just a thought, why is it considered an "advantage" for kindle to have wireless capabilities? Are kindle users reading books to fast that they need to download several new books a day while they are "on the go"? I see no problem in having to download books from my PC to my Reader. Its 2010! Who doesnt have a PC?!

  • You seem to completely miss the point about ebook readers, which is the e-ink technology. The iPad will be a cool gagdet without a doubt, but reading books on an e-ink device like the kindle is a completely different thing than reading on a "traditional" lcd-screen device like the iPad. Maybe you don't read for longer periods of time (no pun intended), but if you do, you really learn to appreciate what e-ink has to offer.

No fancy colors and cool apps here, just a crisp backlight-free display.

  • @Sneets I just want to know how many people sit there on their couch reading an ebook all day? Most people like books because of the feel and the smell of a new book, which makes ebooks in general out of the picture. Also, what they need is to at least add a touch screen to maximize space (as in the shitty keyboard) and allow page flips
