  • WOW this show has been haunting my memories for years now and I finally remembered it lol WOW nostalgia, I watched this as a kid and I'm 20 now hahaha

  • i used to watch this video in the early 90s when i was little. *sniff*

    childhood memories. *SOB* >.<

  • I never noticed until now, but this looks like it was filmed just outside of Thunder Bay on the shores of Lake Superior

  • @sparrow5469 what makes u think that?

  • This man was my childhood! Also, those first few notes sound like Epona's song.

  • WHAT A DAY, WHAAAAT A DAY

  • @MissNaivetey

    I hear ya!

  • Such a pleasent tune!

  • i think thats how all us kids from the 90s play guitar because of fred penner because i remember i wished i could have a guitar just like freds so if it was not for fred penner haha i think us 90s kids wouldnt of knowen what the hell a guitar is lol like if you think im right on this

  • I loved this show so much! Fred Penner made me wanna learn how to play a guitar as a kid. I'm horribly out of practice but I remember borrowing my brother's guitar and sitting down watching this show and trying to play the songs too. :)

  • Wow..just watching this again brought a warmth and a smile to my face :)

  • Ah, the memories of childhood... one of my favorite shows... thank you

  • This show made me sad that I'll never get enough money to study folklore in Newfoundland.

    It made me feel trapped.

  • he played at a kids event last summer in Peterborough, as a 31 yr old man now, was very cool to meet a child hood Canadian icon, he was very cool to talk with....good thing the girlfriend at the time told me about the event

  • Friggin awesome! Canadian tv rules

  • omg i loved this show way back, i was really attached to my dad when i was in pre-school and Fred Penner looks like my Dad and that's also why i love this show he loved national geographic and this show always made me think of my Dad:)

  • 0:47 trpping balls

  • Every time Fred Penner looks at an animal he's remembering the time he raped it. "God wasn't that frog-rape lovely" thinks Fred. And thus Fred continues his life to this day energetically bounding around lovely woods raping as many different animals as he possibly can.

  • SO GLAD HE WAS ON WORLD VISION! HE HAS LESS BEARD AND IT IS WHITE NOW! HE ALSO SEEMS TO HAVE GAINED WEIGHT!

  • As a child I never thought about how pedo this was.

  • I remember this being one of the first television shows that I ever laid my eyes on.

  • i know im not old because this guy still looks old

  • o my god i so watched this growing up........

  • I remember this show. I only just found out what it was called now.

  • Comment removed

  • He as a psicadhelic sweater

  • Holy hell, I got faint memories of this from when I was 4~6 years old.

I'm glad to have been born in the early 90's rather than today.

  • this, sharon lois and bram and littlest hobo are the reasons our generation is the last generation of mostly reserved/respectful ppl, the early 90s kids watched all these me-firster shows that taught them zero values

  • this and littlest hobo are the reasons our generation is the last generation of mostly reserved/respectful ppl, the early 90s kids watched all these me-firster shows that taught them zero values

  • Saw him in concert in August this year and im 25

he was unreal... coolest guy ever lol

  • I'm gonna get my kids to watch this show-among other classics. End of story. What I think are better forms of children education as opposed to what will probably be on. End of story :)

  • when he crawls through the little hole, i spent my entire childhood trying to find that passageway!!

  • these days if you saw some motherfucker in a sweater and a beard creeping through the woods you'd call the cops :(

  • FREEEEEEDDD!!!

  • Fred penner is only a singer

  • My favorite hippie.

  • I met this guy was I was 10, he was my hero hahaha.

  • I can play a few of his songs, Sandwiches is the best gets people laughing when I bust that song out in a pub lol

  • The first few notes almost sound like Lon Lon Ranch from OOT.

  • I want his SWEATER!

  • F**k Fred penner he is a bitch

  • @commenttappellestu

    and you'd say that... why...?

  • LOCAL HERO<3

    Sandwhiches really are beautiful.

  • I never really cared for this show, but I will be the first to admit that it was far, FAR better for a child's development than the junk on TV today. I'd like to say that I'd hope the execs would think of quality over selling products to kids and exposing them to mature themes, but I'd be wasting my time. Fred Penner is desperately needed for the younger generation.

  • This is good quality stuff! What do children watch these days?

  • @Hordak81 Dora the Explorer, In the Night Garden *bad shudder*, Thomas the Tank Engine (that now has about 200+ characters and isn't narrated by Ringo Starr or George Carlin), and this really weird show with creepy puppets. Boobaa or something like that.

But at least with Dora, they learn Spanish, though it doesn't mean as much if you live in Canada.

  • this show explains why i can sit and the middle of the woods and just chill and watch everything thats going on without getting bored like all the "ADD" children nowadays would

  • I was always concerned when he'd go into that log because I would yell at the TV "YOU WOULD BE COVERED IN SPIDERS AND ANTS, FRED PENNER!"

  • Just saw him in concert today!

  • When I was a kid I thought he was General Zod from Superman.

  • nintendo stole the first three notes of epona's song from this intro

  • Nowadays people would say that Fred Penner's forest hideaway was some sort of nefarious pedophile den. It's out in the woods with only one way in or out.

  • This guy is high as fuck.

  • @HypercowXYZ hahaha 0:13 - 0:17 .... hhaha

  • @HypercowXYZ Hes one with nature man!

  • like like like like like used to watch this at my grama's apartment!!!

  • i remember seeing him in concert back when i was 7

  • FRED PENNER MY NIGGA IN THIS MA

  • oh my god.. i remember this.. that sweater!

  • I feel bad for today's kids. They don't have anything like this, and their parents (us) are physically and emotionally absent as a result of being more overworked than ever. Today's kids are going to have a real rough go at the 21st century, unless things turn around ricky-tick.

  • I like Sandwiches, Sandwiches are fine...

  • Dig the sweater!

  • god how i miss being a kid...

  • I've been research a lot of my fav children's shows I watched as a kid and realized a lot of them came from Canada. I just think it's sad that America can not come up with many entertaining and educational kid shows like Canada can, they still should bring in Canadian shows to American audiences.

  • I grew up on this show. I miss being a kid...

  • I met him a few days ago at a volunteer after party. He was so sweet!

  • I was so young when this was on Nickelodeon.

  • epic!!

  • Stop wearing your backpack over one shoulder, kid. Fred Penner invented that.

  • Its Bob Ross's brother he is always so happy!

  • Tommy Chong goes camping...

  • @matthibner

That would have been a great show..hell it would be now:)

  • Grew up watching this man. Loved him then, love him now <3

  • I use to watch this show as a child and than many years down the road while working at a hotel Fred Penner was doing a show. All I could think of when I saw him was giving him a great big hug... BTW, I'm 6'4 220 lbs. Just goes to show that sometimes we can still find the inner-child in all of us.

  • haha i remember watching this as a kid. My family has a running gag where if my dog pokes his head through my or my fathers crossed legs, while we're sitting down to dinner or something, we go, "Hey it's Fred Penner!"

    lol :D

  • holy shit, i remember this one!! I remember there being some weird kids show growing up with some guy with a big beard playing an acoustic guitar in the middle of a swamp. This had to be it.

  • we just saw him in concert, he was so amazing! I miss being a kid :(

why isn't there stuff like this out there anymore, all my kids have to watch on t.v. is crap.

  • @Herodotus53 I googled "kids show walking through forest playing guitar"

  • Fred Penner, Mr. Dressup, Raffi, and Sharon, Lois & Bram (& Elephant!!)... such fond memories of Canadian children's entertainers! :)

  • He was a Canuck!!?? Christ, my life has been built on a foundation of lies!

  • @Vexed34 lol that is hilarious

  • I couldn't remember the name of this show, but I Googled "children's tv show man crawling through log" and I came up with this. This might be the only advantage of living in the 21st century.

  • i loved fred penner!

  • When I was a kid I always thought he was a bit of a weirdo.

  • This is exactly how I dress and make facial expressions when I walk in the woods. lol.

  • Fred Penner was when I turned off the TV and went outside. This show pretty much sucked.

  • Fred Penner, Mr. Dressup, shining time station, Mr. Rogers, theodore the tugboat and all those cartoons like duck tales. Can't believe I was glued to the tv and loved those shows.

  • THIS GUY USED TO REALLY CREEP ME OUT!

  • OH DAMN! LOOOOOONG TIME NO SEE !!!

  • Watching this and Mr. Dressup and all that, makes me remember when I was a kid, and men were looked up to, and I respected them, and could make you feel safe, that was the eighties. Now we live in a time where all men, especially single men, are child molestors and sexual deviants until proven innocent.

  • This man was the reason i loved to play outside as a little kid :)

  • @monauraldaredevil

and now what does tv do?

  • @murdy1975 A lot of TV fails to educate kids in the right way these days

  • lol so ein Penner!

  • Watching Fred Penner's Place and Mr.Dressup were how I spent the carefree days of my childhood :)

    I can't believe I'll be 21 this year...

  • ooooh! how i miss this show!! :) <3

  • how could 5 assholes dislike this? seriously. there's not even a dialogue you can argue with.

  • I used to flip out when his shirt from the theme wouldnt match his shirt for every episode.

  • i remember wishing as a kid i had a place exactly like this for me and my friends.... really secluded bog or whatever you call it in the forest somewhere...actually i think that would still be pretty cool, lol

  • Fred Penner had the most amazing hangout!

  • Great show

  • he definitely smoked a joint before this hike

  • best sweater ever or greatest sweater ever? really the only unknown thing.

  • Oh my gosh Fred penner kind of looks like Jesus then.

  • oh my... i still have one of his old records

  • wow this brings back some memories

  • I completely forgot about this show then the moment I saw the name on the video side list, clicked on it then I remember everything.

  • I FEEL like I remember this show! I remember his beard and that awesome sweeater! And when he was crawling through that tunnel, it looked so farmiliar!

  • I remember watching this back when I had a soul.

  • I used to watch this everyday as a child! I miss Fred Penner

  • forgot all about this show that i LOVED....hippie from childhood...

  • If an adult male did have some special place hidden in the woods, He woudl use it not for a place for music and learning but for..

A place to get drunk or high

A place for "alone time" with porn.

A place to blow you brains out.

  • i miss Word Bird.

  • I like the flow of Fred Penner's place looks like a good place for Miley Cyrus to smoke her bong.

  • Is Fred Penner a Mennonite?

  • I remember watching this and then spending hours trying to find the log entrance! LOL

  • @mufflekit lol me 2

  • hes goin to water his crop !! lmao

  • This dude looks like a pedophile

  • @Kicksalotofassasarus

Lol I once had a dream that he robbed my basement

  • @Duckyxlovesxgum ahhahaah!

  • @Duckyxlovesxgum LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He has a tendency to find small holes to create tunnels to hidden places. I guess while he was on his nature walk he stumbled upon your house and found a hole in your foundation and crawled into your basement. Hahah!

  • @nddlj

I actually think that's what happened. I was like 3 or 4 when I had that dream...

  • I just realized that Fred Penner was a hippy! Lol!

  • soooooo goooood....yet soooo super creepy

  • Wow, just seeing this show brings back so many memories. Anyone remember the Word Bird? haha.

  • this guy is the reason for my love of camping and backpacking. he got me into buidling forts in the woods etc. i remember he once camped out in a log or something and i thought it was so cool.

  • ah the 90s :D

  • Wowzers I haven't seen this show in years!! Forgot about this one.

  • tell my why it was actually my dream as a child to walk through the forest and find a secret passage way such as that! LOL no lie!

  • if anyone has a video of tu ri yay (jihn kanickaknack tu ri yay) please post it

  • Fred Penner Mr Dressup Friendly Giant Shining time station Sharon Lois and Bram are all shows I grew up with when I was little wish they still had quality programing like this on still. Long live the good old days

  • For the life of me, I couldn't remember the name of this show...until today! :D

  • i met fred penner....very tall/nice guy. told him how I used to watch him every day when I was four

  • huh.. this is not the intro/song I remember.

  • OMG, that brings back so many good memories, oh watching tv as a child...As well as Dudley the Dragon, Bil Nye (I still reference that show), Mr. Dress Up, Magic School Bus...and others

  • From a time when they made shows for kids that didnt rot their brains

  • i used to watch this show allll the time, now i play guitar!

  • Wow, I had forgotten about this show. I think I was pretty lucky growing up in northern Minnesota because we got CBC on TV. This show, Friendly Giant, Mr. Dressup...good stuff...although Canadian Sesame Street was just too weird, lol :)

  • Fred, Mr Rogers, John Acorn, Bill nye and Mr. Dressup. i owe alot of my childhood to these men because i grew up with a dead beat dad that fucked off later on in life. when i was young i never realized it but looking back now i realize how important they are too me giving me many good male role models in my life instead of having grown up to be my fathers son. i am definatly glad i was able to experience them in my life and i hope more people step up to be good role models for todays youth.

  • @scuzzlefruff im 22 years old old and ive never met my dad. its been me and my mom, and even she wasnt always there, but but i whole heartedly agree with you about all those shows having great male role models. i only wish we still had shows like thes on tv.

  • @scuzzlefruff

    Sadly today there is Jay Z, Lil John, Lady GaGa and Bieber..... .. .. . .. . . . . .NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • @wyteninja that's music, not childhood shows. What on earth are you focussing on? I barely notice them. They have consumed your life because you've let them.

  • @finnsia

referring to what children grow up with on television now adays.. chill.

  • @wyteninja That's the same stuff that always existed. Talentless pop music or rap is not something of the present but it also existed in the past. You may hold what you've known in the past as excellent music but that love can also equate to those children that enjoy said "artists" and the music that's produced.

  • @finnsia

oh brother.. ok pal. have a great day

  • @scuzzlefruff

    I couldn't agree more....

  • @scuzzlefruff wow scuzzle, i am in the same exact boat. Dad fucked off, I grew up with these guys.Real Men. God do I ever miss those days......

  • I used to love this show as a kid...

  • Always wanted a really giant hollow log to crawl through.

  • I used to love watching this show when I was younger. Along with John Acorn, Sharon, Lois and Bram and Mr Dressup. I miss these shows, such a happier simpler time back when I was a kid.

  • Ahhhhhhhhh, A classic clip from the golden age of Nick Jr. :-D

  • When I was a kid, I used to always want to find that log he crawled into.

  • i never liked the show as a kid...something about fred penner that scared me

  • He played a theatre here in kelowna a couple months back and I saw him at the airport. He looks the same just whiter hair and there were lots of ppl walking up and talking to him.

  • loved fred penner , same here pal was one of my idols along with logdrivers waltz and mr dressup, under the umbrella tree sucked

  • I love how happy he is to see stock footage! Fred is the man! I wish that he was my dad!

  • now that I'm 25 & watching this for the first time since I was about 6; I'd totally do fred penner is his hidden tree log hideout.

  • It scares me that my (future) kids won't have good role models on TV - all it is - (mostly) shooting guns, fighting, blood. Where is the quality I had when I was growing up? Its obviously not here today.

  • I had no idea that this show was canadian until i look it up a while back. Heck my childhood was based around international shows then. Some of the shows that kids watch nowadays are mostly based here in america and it is screwing with their minds. The 80's and 90's show rules. A bit of 2000 ruled too but the other years rocked the boat.

  • I miss this show so much. Would love to get this on DVD.

  • i used to wonder if Jesus looked like Fred Penner.

  • FRED PENNER!!!!! :D i havent seen this guy for like 15 years..when i was really little hahahahahaha

  • This made me so happy (:

  • that sweater is too fucking awesome.

  • @thear675 haha its fuckin bad ass. Fred Penner is one bad ass motherfucker!
