WOW this show has been haunting my memories for years now and I finally remembered it lol WOW nostalgia, I watched this as a kid and I'm 20 now hahaha
i think thats how all us kids from the 90s play guitar because of fred penner because i remember i wished i could have a guitar just like freds so if it was not for fred penner haha i think us 90s kids wouldnt of knowen what the hell a guitar is lol like if you think im right on this
I loved this show so much! Fred Penner made me wanna learn how to play a guitar as a kid. I'm horribly out of practice but I remember borrowing my brother's guitar and sitting down watching this show and trying to play the songs too. :)
he played at a kids event last summer in Peterborough, as a 31 yr old man now, was very cool to meet a child hood Canadian icon, he was very cool to talk with....good thing the girlfriend at the time told me about the event
omg i loved this show way back, i was really attached to my dad when i was in pre-school and Fred Penner looks like my Dad and that's also why i love this show he loved national geographic and this show always made me think of my Dad:)
Every time Fred Penner looks at an animal he's remembering the time he raped it. "God wasn't that frog-rape lovely" thinks Fred. And thus Fred continues his life to this day energetically bounding around lovely woods raping as many different animals as he possibly can.
thanks to Fred...his show was the only tv I watched as a child. Right after his show, I would go outside and enjoy nature. His program was pure gold and it benefited kids....unlike the garbage kid-programs that are on today....
this, sharon lois and bram and littlest hobo are the reasons our generation is the last generation of mostly reserved/respectful ppl, the early 90s kids watched all these me-firster shows that taught them zero values

I'm gonna get my kids to watch this show-among other classics. End of story. What I think are better forms of children education as opposed to what will probably be on. End of story :)
I never really cared for this show, but I will be the first to admit that it was far, FAR better for a child's development than the junk on TV today. I'd like to say that I'd hope the execs would think of quality over selling products to kids and exposing them to mature themes, but I'd be wasting my time. Fred Penner is desperately needed for the younger generation.
@Hordak81 Dora the Explorer, In the Night Garden *bad shudder*, Thomas the Tank Engine (that now has about 200+ characters and isn't narrated by Ringo Starr or George Carlin), and this really weird show with creepy puppets. Boobaa or something like that.
But at least with Dora, they learn Spanish, though it doesn't mean as much if you live in Canada.
this show explains why i can sit and the middle of the woods and just chill and watch everything thats going on without getting bored like all the "ADD" children nowadays would
Nowadays people would say that Fred Penner's forest hideaway was some sort of nefarious pedophile den. It's out in the woods with only one way in or out.
I feel bad for today's kids. They don't have anything like this, and their parents (us) are physically and emotionally absent as a result of being more overworked than ever. Today's kids are going to have a real rough go at the 21st century, unless things turn around ricky-tick.
I've been research a lot of my fav children's shows I watched as a kid and realized a lot of them came from Canada. I just think it's sad that America can not come up with many entertaining and educational kid shows like Canada can, they still should bring in Canadian shows to American audiences.
I use to watch this show as a child and than many years down the road while working at a hotel Fred Penner was doing a show. All I could think of when I saw him was giving him a great big hug... BTW, I'm 6'4 220 lbs. Just goes to show that sometimes we can still find the inner-child in all of us.
haha i remember watching this as a kid. My family has a running gag where if my dog pokes his head through my or my fathers crossed legs, while we're sitting down to dinner or something, we go, "Hey it's Fred Penner!"
holy shit, i remember this one!! I remember there being some weird kids show growing up with some guy with a big beard playing an acoustic guitar in the middle of a swamp. This had to be it.
I couldn't remember the name of this show, but I Googled "children's tv show man crawling through log" and I came up with this. This might be the only advantage of living in the 21st century.
Fred Penner, Mr. Dressup, shining time station, Mr. Rogers, theodore the tugboat and all those cartoons like duck tales. Can't believe I was glued to the tv and loved those shows.
Watching this and Mr. Dressup and all that, makes me remember when I was a kid, and men were looked up to, and I respected them, and could make you feel safe, that was the eighties. Now we live in a time where all men, especially single men, are child molestors and sexual deviants until proven innocent.
i remember wishing as a kid i had a place exactly like this for me and my friends.... really secluded bog or whatever you call it in the forest somewhere...actually i think that would still be pretty cool, lol
I FEEL like I remember this show! I remember his beard and that awesome sweeater! And when he was crawling through that tunnel, it looked so farmiliar!
@Duckyxlovesxgum LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He has a tendency to find small holes to create tunnels to hidden places. I guess while he was on his nature walk he stumbled upon your house and found a hole in your foundation and crawled into your basement. Hahah!
this guy is the reason for my love of camping and backpacking. he got me into buidling forts in the woods etc. i remember he once camped out in a log or something and i thought it was so cool.
Fred Penner Mr Dressup Friendly Giant Shining time station Sharon Lois and Bram are all shows I grew up with when I was little wish they still had quality programing like this on still. Long live the good old days

@wyteninja that's music, not childhood shows. What on earth are you focussing on? I barely notice them. They have consumed your life because you've let them.
@wyteninja That's the same stuff that always existed. Talentless pop music or rap is not something of the present but it also existed in the past. You may hold what you've known in the past as excellent music but that love can also equate to those children that enjoy said "artists" and the music that's produced.
I used to love watching this show when I was younger. Along with John Acorn, Sharon, Lois and Bram and Mr Dressup. I miss these shows, such a happier simpler time back when I was a kid.
He played a theatre here in kelowna a couple months back and I saw him at the airport. He looks the same just whiter hair and there were lots of ppl walking up and talking to him.
It scares me that my (future) kids won't have good role models on TV - all it is - (mostly) shooting guns, fighting, blood. Where is the quality I had when I was growing up? Its obviously not here today.
I had no idea that this show was canadian until i look it up a while back. Heck my childhood was based around international shows then. Some of the shows that kids watch nowadays are mostly based here in america and it is screwing with their minds. The 80's and 90's show rules. A bit of 2000 ruled too but the other years rocked the boat.
WOW this show has been haunting my memories for years now and I finally remembered it lol WOW nostalgia, I watched this as a kid and I'm 20 now hahaha
