I don't get this .. Sounded like he wanted to land on the beach and was jokingly using the rough engine as an excuse? But suddenly search and rescue is after him? That pilot didn't seem very professional.
"Two days after the strange landing, Maloney was rushed to hospital for seizures. Was he suffering from a developing condition when the incident happened? This sounds possible. Some suggested he sounded drunk, but his strange behavior was more likely the early symptoms of the seizures."
@rumbleforce2 Probably the same way lots of other drivers get their drivers license. Do great during the test, but once that's done, they think they are the exception to the rule. The only differences is that he just blew thousands of dollars worth of training.
@rumbleforce2 he probably behaved himself enough to get his licence....but the question will be if he gets to KEEP his licence. In my opinion, they should yank that thing out of his hand and tear it up.
The "pilot" needs a thorough psychological evaluation and should have his certificate revoked. There is something seriously wrong with him and his passengers are lucky to be alive. His non-standard communications with ATC and ridiculous comments/questions demonstrate reckless contempt for the system. Again, the FAA should show no leniency and should permanently revoke his certificate. I feel bad for the controller who had to put up with this on his frequency. He was a real pro.

To the controllers surprise, the pilots previously incorrect statement "inbound for landing with Whiskey" became blindingly apparent .

If there is no one on the beach then who cares? People make beach landings all the time.

This guy is a jerk. Not only does this make GA look bad, but responsible and safe pilots around the world.
