  • Damn, I am using a 27" CRT and it uses only 90 watts. That flatscreen uses a min. of 177 watts. That's just outrageous. Another reason for me to stick to the CRT for now.

  • Tinhh, I've setup several LCD and plasma TV's with Avia, and found default sharpness way too high. You can tell because you see ringing around fine detail, this is bad as it degrades picture quality & detail. If you display some small text, try moving the sharpness slider from minimum to maximum, at lowest it may be blurry but at maximum it'll have a white halo around each letter, you don't want this. You want the font to clear defined edges, but not blurry or with halos. Google search sharpness

  • Thanks for that fentastic piece of information...

keep up the good work !

  • I just got a sharp the picture sucks

  • That's good savings.

    :D

  • i want to eat cactus now for some reason

  • i just bought a LCD tv, insignia, and when it goes i change to Digital, the screen goes black and i only hear the sound, can anyone help me?

  • because the cable transmits analog images and digital is what the computer sends to the screen

  • "because the cable" so what can i do?

  • get a tv tunner so u plug the cable from ur tv in the tv tunner and it will convert the analog to digital and then u can change to digital

  • Calibration DVDs(I neither endorse or sell any particular product - just alerting you all to what's available):

Digital Video Essentials HD - HDDVD or BluRay

    AVIA HD

Original Avia(1999) and DVE(2003) for conventional sets. Good in a pinch for getting the basic five controls(Brightness, Contrast, Sharpness, Color, & Hue) where they belong.

First, lower backlight as suggested on here, set picture mode to Movie, insert one of the above DVDs and. . . .press play!

  • Other Tips Since I'm in the Video-Conferencing/AV business:

Lowering the backlight even to the midpoint will allow your other adjustments - Brightness, Contrast, etc. to interact correctly and make setting them more accurate.

Another tip to improve accuracy/reduce consumption: Take out of "VIVID" mode and set picture mode to "Cinema" or "Movie". These are dimmer but farrrrr more accurate and let you see programs/materials as they were produced.

  • thanks, I have the same tv that they demo'd in this video..

I will reduce the back lightl.

I have an XBR 4 BRAVIA

    and an Sharp Aquas

  • i use a tv as my monitor for my pc the tv cost me 4500 euros and is up idk how much inch but it shure is big i think its like 90"

  • Hey, that's what I did on my lcd even before checking out this video!

  • Reducing backlight also helps with deeper blacks. Should also disable dynamic contrast and all other processing, and knock down sharpness to minimum or a little above minimum

  • @badbob12345678

    Why sharpness so low?

  • @Tinhh

Because it fucks the image up.

  • turning it below 25 seem to really start to dim my text and my 360 guide menu. what is a good backlight setting for good blacks and good white? i use to have it at 35 but when i got gta4 its a dark game and my blacks seemed to glow anyadvise?

  • Don't set the setup based on one picture mate. Best to get a picture card, you know with black to white gradients and all that, then set it to that. Then if the game looks dark (if possible) set the gamma in the game.

  • @Xenokai360 lol dude i researched this vid just for that reason, i see your comment was posted 2 years ago how did you get over gta 4s darkness?

  • thank you robert for showing us this!
