This is a very interesting read for anyone who's curious about the optics used to shoot this scene (and judging by the comments, there's plenty of curiosity):
@bruvvamoff Due to youtube's compression, and the fact that the lens was designed for Full Frame sensors (36x24). Super 35mm film is 20x13, so the depth of field increases.
I found this movie thrilling and am glad to see it in parts. It inspired me to move to France and I may send you a video response which I hope you will consider. Uprated. Thank you.
@ocrerose It hasn't been a bed of roses! I have over 1,000 videos up on two YT channels, and over on Dailymotion, I am under "LisaFalour." (I get less hassles there and can be more arty.) This has definitely been a wild, often troubling, magic carpet ride! I try to focus on something cool, and FRENCH, daily, for an uplift, no matter how weary I get. You might like my stuff!
@polkafrenzy666 you mean like watching 'Stanley Kubrick: A Life in Pictures,' in which they spend an entire section of the documentary discussing his meticulous use of candle light on all of the sets for various lighting techniques? Ok, I will.
@polkafrenzy666 you were talking about the lighting on the film and the fact that he only used candles and natural lighting techniques. He was able to do it thAT cause he had a special lens that NASA let him use.(try to keep up)
Who wrote the background music? It's exquisite!

@Flush333 So I heard. Kubrick had a NASA F0.7 lens modified to fit a film camera.
Strange thing is, the depth of field doesn't even look shallow?

Not every scene was shot with natural light or candle light, but most were.

@jakespick I've seen that documentary and nowhere in it do they say he used only natural lighting. You know why? Because it isn't true.
