his swing developed a lot since this video was made. he doesnt take the club that far to the inside anymore. there is a video of his old swing on utube u can see how much more upright his backswing was. i think he changed into a more flatter plane following that and now he is in beetween.

Once you notice the fact that his hips pause slightly during impact and then continue rotating that's all you can ever watch during his swing.

ye iv been a big fan of that move 4 awhill were u feel like u staying on rite side a little longer coming down, with passive hands its a great consistant move. ball stricking has really improved from that. I dont think tho that there is such thing as a textbook move bcos wat works 4 1 player may not work 4 another. There are key moves howevor that all pros make. But there is no such thing as a perfect swing.

I love his swing.....but im surprised how much he dips. Tiger and Anthony Kim "dip" first in their swign so they can explode with their legs through the ball but your timing has to be insane to be consistent with it. Thanks for posting.

Geoff Ogilvy has too much of a reverse C, causing him to hold the club off coming through to avoid a hook. Its a great, repeatable move but not perfectly textbook by any means. Rory doesnt have a "textbook" move either, but legendary Scottish golf teacher Bob Torrance, who rebuilt Padraig Harringtons swing from the ground up, told this Irishman to simply "leave it alone". Those words from a golf coach like Torrance speak volumes for Mcllroy's talent

This guy has a long and prosperous career ahead of him, unbelievable golf swing. One of the few players who truly uses the Ground as leverage and swings the club with his lower half, like Tiger (or Hogan). There is one part of his hip rotation that experts say defy the laws of physics when at :29 Sec, his hips actually redirect back to the right somehow....its quite puzzling how he does this, nonetheless, incredible move on the ball, he will be around for a long long time!

Great swing, for those comments about the body out running the arms and hands thats why he hits it so far! its lag, you should always start the downswing with your left hip as this is what drops the club onto the flatter plane on the downswing, otherwise he would throw it over the top and cut the hell out of it....

He keeps his shoulders back way too long when his hips unwind in the downswing. This prevents his arms, hands and club to be lowered by the hips unwinding and therefore he increases knee flex to lower himself in order for the club to contact the ball. He should let his upper torso go along with the unwinding of his hips. Otherwise a very very talented golfer.

I agree that it works very well for him, as 2009 was a great season. But in the future it could cause consistency problems, as it has for Sergio Garcia and other similar swings where the body outruns the arms and hands in the downswing.

It's amazing, right?! I think it works like a whip where you pull the handle back to give it extra snap in the tip.... I've seen hips stop in really long hitters which sends the acceleration out to the club head but I've never seen them recoil like this... insane!
