Great acting, great writing/dialouge, great cinematography, great direction, great cast, great scenery and sets, and one of the greatest original scores ever. One of my favorite modern movies.
I really enjoyed this film back when I first saw it. Great little neo-noir, I don't know if I would classify Puncture as a noir but I defintiely enjoyed it because it has similar elements to this.
One of the best films ever made, in my opinion. The epitome of neo-noir juxtaposed against the high school setting and the confusion of teen angst and relationships. Anyone who doesn't recognize the genius of this film gets zero respect from me...
@R0WMaC I had put it off for a long time, but recently I had been craving mystery movies and Netflix told me I would like it, and it completely satisfied my mystery craving and now it's in my top 20 favorites. This is no small feat; I study film!
@TehVenezuelan that's fantastic, I would love to study film. my friend introduced me to 'brick' one evening after a few wines, he told me that i'd enjoy it - I was hesitant at first because of the actors and because of the general gist of the plot but I watched it and pretty much fell in love with the style. It reminds me of theatre acting, it is also similar to 'my own private idaho'. Very lovely film to watch :) Merry Christmas btw :D
@R0WMaC I still haven't seen My Own Private Idaho. But yes I love the noir-ish tone of the film, from the clever dialogue to the slight overacting. Merry Christmas to you as well!
Why'd they take out the scene of Laura's sexy back? She was so hot in this film... I would have totally fallen for her trap. I'm such a sucker; a total lap-dog.
My GF and I went to the movies in 06 only to find the movies playing where all terrible. As we read the synopsis for all the movies on that night we saw(some thing like)
"Brick
A senior high school student involves him self in a heroin ring trying to find his ex-girlfriend"
She was pissed, we almost went home without seeing anything. Since it was slow the clerk let us in for free.
I now own this movie,I have given my copy as gifts about a dozen times now and I will buy it every time I see it
@lemacumahc I just asked a simple fucking request...jesus...I rented it years ago when it came out. I would like to see it again...I just thought someone uploaded it. That's all
@coldstaind91 I just responded to your"simple fucking request" with a simple fucking solution that involves simply fucking paying a simple fucking fee for a simple fucking transaction which gives your simple fucking self the simple fucking right to simply fucking watch it. If your simple fucking mind can't grasp the simple fucking concept of protecting intellectual property laws, you simply fucking don't get to simply fucking voice your simple fucking opinion.
marginallymental said it, the way it was written was a little foreign at first and kind of detached me from the film at first, but the story and characters were so well developed I hooked, great movie.
@TonyHall92 A movie about a nowaday young man trying to find a girl who's in trouble reminds you of the police investigation of serial killings in the 40s? I fail to see the connection to be honest. The movie is noir style and the music in this trailer was similar to the game so maybe that did it?
ok I'm watching this trailer and I still have no idea what the fuck this movie is supposed to be about, it's like a fuckin acid trip all over the damn place.
This movie was soooo good. it really keeps you on your toes. The mystery doesn't unravell untill the last 2 minutes of the film and it leaves you with your mouth hanging open like "oh..my...gosh...."
Man, I wrote a script with this same name, Brick. My script is based on the song from Ben Folds Five called Brick. I didn't even know this movie existed until I did some research on the internet about the meaning of the word Brick. Now that this movie called Brick has already been made, I have to change the name of the script that I'm currently in preperation to rewrite. Brick means "good hearted person" and my script is about a good heart person. I just need a new title for my script now.
@agentbl Wasn't the song about an abortion that the singer tried to avoid to no avail? From what I understand Brick in that sense is something weighing you down, like guilt. I've never heard it used to refer to a good-hearted person. besides, using Brick in that context, where the movie is based off of the song, i believe is copyright infringement (don't count on it though).
@lozoft9 I'm not sure what the song is about. I listen to it all the time and I hear something different. As for copyright infringement, I"m not trying to do that. I just base my story on how I hear the song. My script isn't totally about the song though. I've been rewriting this script for sone years now. And yes in the dictionary online which I found, it said the meaning of Brick is in deed "a good-hearted person." And that's what my script is about, the good hearted person.
saw this on netflix last night (I was utterly intoxicated)
but I could NOT stop watching. Within this opening scene I was hooked. The cinematography, the dialog, the acting.. I am going to wait a few days and then revisit it for a better comprehension of the film.
I was hooked onto this film from start to finish. The ideal of it being high school kids was a great background to the movie. Made it even better. I thought Godfather watching this back 2 years ago.
@SheTossedElvisIntoA I hate to tell you but she was pretty disappointing in this movie. Either that or JGL was so incredible as the main character that he made everyone else look bad.
I forgot to mention how incredibly epic and refreshingly original this movie is in my first comment. Rian Johnson = genius. And Joseph Gordon-Levitt is brilliant in it. One of my favorites. Can't believe I forgot to praise it before. How dare me lol
@kiwifruteful A lot of people think this implies Laura and Brendan had sex, but according to director Rian Johnson, the shot was originally sequenced after they had made out on the bed, thus they did not.
Does anyone remember that Brick fan trailer that was on YouTube that the director Rian Johnson actually saw and said did the film better justice than the official trailer? I can't find it anywhere.
