Look at this pompous jackass, David Johnston, thinking he's hot shit because Harper appointed him to be governor general. This clown was a third rate university administrator who went into administration instead of striving to be a great researcher like other professors strive to be. Calling himself "His Excellency" is the height of arrogance. He wasn't elected to anything and is now a bootlicker to an unelected foreign queen.

To me, David Johnston gave the game away when he raised his clenched hands above his head in the "WE WON!" victory salute when swearing in Harper's new and enlarged Cabinet.
An unforgivable display of partisan politics. Reader's Digest verifies that image by declaring Johnston to be like Samuel de Champlain, Canada's first governor, able to "dream big, envisioning a 'grand design' for North America.
The Crown and her representatives must be strictly non-political. Johnston clearly isn't.

I had the misfortune of knowing David Johnston at University of Waterloo. When David Johnston was appointed there, I thought he'd be good, but I was extremely wrong. I believe David Johnston was the worst university president imaginable. David Johnston will be a horrible governor general & is the last person who should have been appointed to this position. All Canadians should be extremely ashamed to have David Johnston as governor general.

I had the misfortune of knowing David Johnston at University of Waterloo. I believe that David Johnston, Canada's new governor general, was obviously appointed to be a bootlicker to Stephen Harper and make electoral decisions in favor of the conservatives while maintaining the appearance of neutrality. Monarchists like David Johnston are pathetic bootlickers to the queen. David Johnston needs to learn some manners and respect for students. David Johnston doesn't even have a Ph.D.

You make an excellent point.
Most likely if Canadians have the option of selecting between multiple candidates for the position of G.G in a free open and democratic election, there would have been more excitment for his installation.
All the pomp and ceremony and money for a few dozen people.
