I grew up and lived in Evanston until '47 - the "L" was my way around Chicago as a teen. I don't recall that we had the Holiday train then, but this and other videos of the "L" - sure brings back memories. The "Evanston Express" was "my" train then. Thanks so much for posting.
The CTA posts the schedule of the Holiday Train in November on its website, Transitchicago. Then there are weekly updates with specific times on the website.
They post a schedule, but it's really funny when people don't realize it's coming -- you can see the surprise on their faces when they see it coming toward the platform
Well BadAppleProductions, good trivia there, in the same video at 3:40 at the Harrison St. Curve, just as the train makes the turn, you should remember the multiple police car scene turing the same corner on the ground in The Blues Brothers. Also, just due south before the S curve the final street scene of The Traitor with Don Cheadle was shot just under the tracks. I don't know the name of the street though. I know the area very well although I now live in Texas. lol
In this clip, look at 1:22, if you have seen the movie Wanted where he is on the top of that train with anjalina jolie except the training is going in the opposite direction, then when they get to the window on the corner of that building he shoots a guy in the chest who is in a meeting.
This is neat, and I also see that the santa on a Flatcar is real, this is a nice way to show off the Holidays, I wish they had done this in New York Particulary the IRT Lines and through Times Square albeit at no more than 22 MPH
they cant do it in new york, the trains would be too long for the platform and it would delay service, plus the MTA is busy wasting money ordering the R160.
No money for service. Cta begging Springfield for more funding. Yet momey for an amusement park ride. What an insult, what a disrespect for the over 2400 employees that will be getting layed off early next year.
Mr. Davis...Are you sure from whence the funding for the Holiday Train comes? It is probably a different budget or source altogether. What would be better is a campaign to kick out of office all the legislators, governor, who haven't done anything for 10 months. But this isn't a political forum. I'll delete both posts in 3 days.
It is the principle. Although it is a mere drop in the bucket compared to the service cuts, it still sends a bad message. Put yourself in the position of the future 2400 layoffs, are they having a "merry Christmas"? I do agree with you on getting rid of this useless governor and legislators, but a correction, it's been over 22 years, not 10 months.
I miss the old Spirit of Chicago/beltrails paint scheme that used to exist on the 2600s! This video brings back memories of those days(and of that paint scheme) a little bit.
It's sad the only cars that still have beltrails are the 2400s, which run on the Green and Purple Lines(and even sadder that very, very few even still have their belt rails on them anymore, other than mostly, the work motor ones that have a red/white/red beltrail).
i saw it once on the red line it like zoomed past us

Back to the train, the decorations were form individual donations and employee contributions, not from public taxpayer money.

It makes it academic now. Cta received the funding through the blackmailing of Gov. Blogy.

This is great but how does Santa keep his balance?
NYC's MTA should do something like this for the holidays. They (MTA) could use the vintage cars in its collection for this.
