In 1940 the Nazi war machine was the finest in the world simply because they had had a lot of time to build it up while the rest of western countries did nothing to stop it.The ordinary troops were good fighters but for them it was join in or go to a labour camp to be indoctrinated.

@tromuniapp If it wasn't for Germany trying to take on the Brits, Russia and the US at the same time...i tend to differ. The Brits held off the Germans for over 2 years, then the US decided to get involved. If Germany had'nt of attacked Russia, the outcome would be much different.

The German enginners who built and designed these towers and traps are brilliant. If the allies landed in anywhere above Normandy, they would have expierienced a lot more hell.
Interesting. The dramatic scenes showing troops rushing through bunker corridors and ascending stairs and ladders are particularly well done. The use of Canadian POWs in the footage does seem to indicate that these may also have been taken from Dieppe although I havn't been able to determine wether either the Canadian Paras or Nova Scotia Highlanders were involved in that raid.

"Fourteen thousand young Canadians stormed Juno Beach on D-Day." "At the end of the day, its forward elements stood deeper into France than those of any other division. The opposition the Canadians faced was stronger than that of any other beach save Omaha."-Canadian memorial website. This type info is on many sites, also some have pictures.

What I was unsure of was wether the Canadian Parachute Battalion and the Nova Scotia highlanders were involved in the Dieppe raid. However, you are right in pointing out that that information is easy to find on the internet. Niether unit was involved in Dieppe and both were involved in the D-Day landings so it would seem that the footage of the PoWs was actually taken in Normandy.

I've watched many of these Wochenshau's though and I'm pretty sure this one was made just after D-day, and I would guess all prisoners shown were from the D-day period. Back then using "stock footage" was unusual. Had the Germans used footage from Dieppe showing faces this clearly, the enemy, England, Canada etc. would have recognized it right off.
And, of course we all know that Operation Overlord was a resounding defeat for the Allies as the heroic boys of the Wehrmacht and Waffen SS repulsed the brazen invaders at the waterline. Deutchland Uber Alles!!
Some of these scenes are from the Eastern front, the three M42 gunners I have seen before. Some shots are from the Dieppe raid. No German walked the beach that day as depicted here. This film would have been made a year at least before D day. Geobbles was Quite genious at his trade. German Navy was not present nor the Luftwaffe. Most Brit and Canadians were 6 miles inland before nightfall. Cean of course was heavily defended.
Interesting to note that there was film mixed in from other actions where allied troops were involved on the continent. The film would have one believe that the Germans overcame the D-Day landings and mopped up the remnants. Not so, as we now know. Some footage may have been from the Dieppe raid, or Operation Market Garden, which failed in prisoners being taken.
@partriarch Actually, I don't think it likely footage from "Operation Market Garden" was used here. Wikipedia says that took place from September 17-25. The D-day landings took place on June 6. I don't think they would have had footage from a battle that happened 3 months later.

Normandy wasn't prepared really for a german invasion, the Germans expected it to be at Caen. Imagine how crazy it would of been if the allies landed at Caen?

@SemperMaster This video was produced as a newsreel, the kind that was shown in movie theaters before the main picture started, and it was a way many people got to see film of news events before TV was widely available. That being said, this had to be approved (if not outright designed by) the Propaganda Ministry in the Third Reich, and they obviously wanted to make it look like they had the upper hand during D-Day.

In 1940 the Nazi war machine was the finest in the world simply because they had had a lot of time to build it up while the rest of western countries did nothing to stop it.The ordinary troops were good fighters but for them it was join in or go to a labour camp to be indoctrinated.
One cannot fault the bravery of the American troops who fought on Utah beach and despite large casualties overan the Germans,the officers who picked that target should have been made to go in with them.

Interesting. The dramatic scenes showing troops rushing through bunker corridors and ascending stairs and ladders are particularly well done. The use of Canadian POWs in the footage does seem to indicate that these may also have been taken from Dieppe although I havn't been able to determine wether either the Canadian Paras or Nova Scotia Highlanders were involved in that raid.

"Fourteen thousand young Canadians stormed Juno Beach on D-Day." "At the end of the day, its forward elements stood deeper into France than those of any other division. What I was unsure of was wether the Canadian Parachute Battalion and the Nova Scotia highlanders were involved in the Dieppe raid. However, you are right in pointing out that that information is easy to find on the internet. Niether unit was involved in Dieppe and both were involved in the D-Day landings so it would seem that the footage of the PoWs was actually taken in Normandy.

I've watched many of these Wochenshau's though and I'm pretty sure this one was made just after D-day, and I would guess all prisoners shown were from the D-day period. Back then using "stock footage" was unusual. Had the Germans used footage from Dieppe showing faces this clearly, the enemy, England, Canada etc. would have recognized it right off.

Some of these scenes are from the Eastern front, the three M42 gunners I have seen before. Some shots are from the Dieppe raid. No German walked the beach that day as depicted here. This film would have been made a year at least before D day. Geobbles was Quite genious at his trade. German Navy was not present nor the Luftwaffe. Most Brit and Canadians were 6 miles inland before nightfall. Cean of course was heavily defended.

Interesting to note that there was film mixed in from other actions where allied troops were involved on the continent. The film would have one believe that the Germans overcame the D-Day landings and mopped up the remnants. Not so, as we now know. Some footage may have been from the Dieppe raid, or Operation Market Garden, which failed in prisoners being taken.

@partriarch Actually, I don't think it likely footage from "Operation Market Garden" was used here. Wikipedia says that took place from September 17-25. The D-day landings took place on June 6. I don't think they would have had footage from a battle that happened 3 months later.

I've watched many of these "Die Deutsche Wochenshau's" (maybe all of them), they were numbered. "Despite Harry Giese's signature rat-a-tat narration that gives the proceedings a documentary-like tone, liberties were taken in retelling the facts in this Nazi propaganda tool.(2)--Wikipeida These are probably Airborne troops captured in France right around the invasion.

Although very scary and evil, you guys have to admit large-scale war like this is very cool for somebody who hasn't actually experienced war before. It's a fucking hell hole for the people actually fighting, but for people like me watching right now, it has to be atleast somewhat intriguing. I wish I could have fought in WWII, I'd have made more of a difference back then, fighting for REAL freedom than working my 9-5 shift at the uranium mine as a millwright.

@SemperMaster This video was produced as a newsreel, the kind that was shown in movie theaters before the main picture started, and it was a way many people got to see film of news events before TV was widely available. That being said, this had to be approved (if not outright designed by) the Propaganda Ministry in the Third Reich, and they obviously wanted to make it look like they had the upper hand during D-Day.

Also I would like you to ask the men of bomber command if they did anything during world war 2, and if you did they would probably spit in your face because they did your duty and bombed Germany day and night with a 44 percent casualty rate. That takes some serious balls to go up every night and know that you might not come back.125,000 aircrew were killed in total,so please dont brag you won it by yourself when they died over germany doing their duty more to come next

You are wrong on so many levels. The battle of Britain for one, if we had not one that battle we would have probably been invaded giving hitler complete control over europe. With this in mind he could have transfered all his forces to the eastern front and held the line atleast until the Russians had worn themselves down. Please tell me, if we had not won the battle of Britain where would have you guys launched an invasion from?

@WatchOut4Kev what are you talking about?30millions russians got killed during the war not 400,000 and russians didnt give a fuck what US wanted.Germans had very little forces at the western front mostly kids against americans,brits,canadians,french,polish and others.Have you heared about the batlle of the Bulge (Ardennes conteroffensive)when the allies faced a little serious german forces and got their ass kicked but got saved buy the air forces?

3:32--what a joke and what propaganda! Watch interviews with Germans who were actually there and they say they were worried. One quote I heard was "they [the allies] have more ships than we [the Germans] have men [at the coastal defence]". The horizon was almost blocked out by allied ships.
