In reguards to the flight engineer, yea I know that and I find it totally amazing. To add to the fun the engineer is facing in the oppisite direction. I would be so totally sick if I tried that. I take my hat to the flight crews of this plane.
The B-29 has a flight engineer who starts the engine not the pilots, the engineer does most of the switch turning controls the throttle mixture and prop controls cowl flaps etc. All the pilot does is fly it land take off and gear up and down.
At the Deer Valley airport there is a viewing platform that has a speaker so you can hear the conversation between the pilots and control tower. I bet that is what you were hearing in the second part of the clip.
