how do you guys think this will be for recording on snow? in particular people doin jumps and rails, i have no idea about cameras/camcorders so thanks for the help
My experience has been it's not good at recording fast motion.
As for the detail and color problems, I got much better footage out of mine by dropping the exposure down to -1 most of the time. It tends to overexpose everything like most consumer cameras on auto.
I actually took the opportunity to compare the flip and the aiptek a few weeks ago. The Flip Ultra most definitely has much better sound, and is better in low light. But the overall video on the aiptek was better for sure.
To answer a few questions ... yes, I used the Aiptek to record this video, with the internal mic, which is awful -- but several workarounds might overcome this if portable is important... ie separate recording of audio, or reroute the mic wire for external plug-in. For editing .mov files, try Adobe Elements or Premier.
I have the same camera..are there any video editing softwares available that supports .mov input? coz I cant edit mine using pinnacle or wmm..I dont want to convert it because it will lower the quality :(
No problem. DEFINITELY do not waste your money on this one if audio is important. Video is excellent though. There are various hacks and people who put mic inputs on it though. But its not for me. My digital camera's video recording has 10xs better audio.
yeah i realized the audios bad quality when i tried recording me on an acoustic, it just comes out as an annoying buzzing. im getting a sony hdr-sr10 soon though
Thanks for the review. I have this camera. I am very frustrated with the audio issues. Bottom-line: it is useless for recording anything but first person audio (spoken by the person holding the camera). I've tried every "fix" online and have had no noticeable improvement. A/V input recording is a great feature. MOV extension sucks to convert. Its not a true Media Player as it doesnt play MP3s or Audio files.
Yes it does. I'm pretty sure its noted in specs somewhere, its one of the reasons I bought it. If you need something like a DVR - this is it. I'm gonna guess maybe you are connecting to a wireless camera or something. It records AV input at DVD quality. Doesnt work great if you are copying tapes from a VCR because if the tracking skips the recording unexpectedly stops b/c it thinks you killed the input.
My laptop does not play the .MOV format it is filmed. I downloaded the DV-V cd with which the camera came with but I do not know how to convert it. Can you give me any information on how you got your videos to work?
In summery, poor quality, blurry, not much detail or contrast. un usable sound, lens flairs and no focus. Also it's not a true 8mp and many memory cards are un compatible.
i own one of these, all the videos ive put on youtube have came out reasonabally good, on the camera the audio is terrible but when you put it on youtube somehow the audio gets increasingly better
You can plug this camera into your tv and record stuff onto it right?
Does anyone know if youre watching the tv in HD, will it also record in HD? Or could it atleast record it in SD? Thanks! I want to be able to record some stuff on tv, but while im watching it i want to watch it in HD. I dont mind if it records to SD, but while im watching it i atleast want to be watching it in HD.
There is no HD input port, ie DVI or HDMI, or firewire, HOWEVER, you can use the included AV cable to plug into a cable box with RCA video and audio connectors, and record BOTH HiDef signal or standard def ... as well as directly from any other camera, VCR, DVD player, etc.
cam has 3 settings; 720p...dv1...and CIF. Can you upload a 720p vid to YTube (at what upload rate, best, assuming Windows movie maker?)with appreciably better clarity or does the transfer degrade so that a dv1 or CIF rate vid is better? Looking to get the clearest uploads I can get! thanks!
Howdy. As long as it's under the 100MB limit once it's on video, I think the upload speed will be pretty quick. All I have is DSL and mine moves pretty fast (3 or 4 minutes, depending, I guess, on traffic). However, 100MB isn't a lot of space for a hi-def video; I'm guessing that'll only buy you a few minutes.
Hi if you could please show night shot with an IR illuminator or IR flash light and post it up. I want to see its capabilities at nightshot before I buy one but other then that very great review!
i can only see this video in 360 p ?

The Flip has much better sound, thats for sure.
The video on this aiptek seems better than the Flip, on youtube.

Good review. Question: When using it as a DVR, does it record in STEREO? And how is the audio quality?
