Sorry, his technique is not that great. He's rushing everything, and the take off and landing of the double tours is not a great position. Grand pirouette is not as good as some, but hard to tell, since he's going so fast...
@KASTALIJA@Chiru390 No kidding, i love Misha & Rudolf but Julio Bocca is the best Basilio ever... followed by Vladimir Vasiliev and then Misha... There's a lot af beautiful dancers nowadays Simkin's variation is also good as well as Acosta, Sarafanov, Ivan Vassiliev, and a bunch of others...
@Balletstar1225 I totally agree with that!! I have heard so much dislike for Gillian Murphy but she is such a performer, and actor (more so then the average ballet dancer...in my opinion) that at times when I was watching her dance I could almost hear what she would be saying. And again, AMAZING presence on stage. She is one of my favorites!
His presence on stage is amazing! I have always heard from my teachers that typically when a man a woman are dancing together most people watch the woman. I would say this is true for me. But...there is just that something about Angel Corella that when his is dancing on stage, no matter who else is with him, I just can't take my eye off him. He is a SUPERSTAR!! And as a woman I really appreciate him dancing with strength. He dances like a man!!
Cheats on his double tours a little. His line and technique rival Baryshnikovs, but Mishas upper body was more expressive. Overall a great dancer though, one of the best...
What does his "perfection" have anything to do with his sexuality @gabrielladepaula1995? That's a pretty ignorant comment, and has nothing to do with his technique, style, or appeal as a ballet danseur.
okokok it doesn't really matter but personally I loooooooove angel. He has this sever power and energy about him it seems he can do anything!! he has wonderful technique and his artistry is breath-taking. and he's a left turner (like me!!!)
i never really understood where all this Acosta love comes from. I'm not the biggest Corella fan, but seriously how can they even compare? Is this a US vs UK kind of thing?
Don't know much about him, but I do like his bravado and presentation. It is refreshing to see a man dance like a man for a change. No offense to n/e one or dancer.
man i also thought that angel was not so good and bla bla bla but once I saw him life bursting out all that energy inside him and doing amazing things, never again did that thought went through my head again. you just gotta see him life. it's f$%"ing amazing!!!!
like corella said, i dont think that you can truly judg dancers professionally to each other. they all have something amazing to bring to the dance world
r u kidding...Angel owns the shit out of Carlos Acosta...I don't mean to sound trite but there is a lot more to being an amazing male dancer than perfect technique...in fact technique isn't really the most important thing...look at Baryshnikov...his tech is far from perfect but he is a god...
have u ever watched a video of baryshnikov? compare him with bujones...u will see that the clearly superior technician is bujones but the superior performer is clearly misha
cant believe what i'm reading. i had the luck to see both life and the only explanation i find for you to say this is that you cant possibly have seen corella life. the energy and power he transmits is unexplainable.acosta can only dream of beeing such an artist as angel
and by the way.....you say angel has awful feet....can you tell me what kind of feet acosta has if not HOORRIBLE??they break the (supposed) line of his legs (and i'm beeing veryvery kind...
what a pile of manure..carlos acosta owns corella
corella doesnt even had the physical shape for classical.ballet he thinks he is a good turner,he doesnt pirouette he spins, plus he takes off from the worst possible position and look at the position he turns in.i suggest you have a look at acosta diana & acteon on youtube.you cannot better classical technique then that
of course americans will love his flashy classless dancing
if i paid my good hard earned money to see this crap i would ask for my money back.i mean come on did you see his double cabriole hahaha...even i could do better then that lol
reberto bolle is a better dancer then him
so is kumakawa...and manuel carreno, and putrov, gudanov, simkin, kobberg and edur,go home an get yourself an education before making such a retarded statement
oh now i understand...you are one of those who care more about the technique and the shape than about the ARTISTRY. i KNOW corella hasnt a perfect technique, but u forget it when u see him life.when he dances you cant other than feel his energy strength and power. if u havent seen him life theres no way 4 u 2 understand it.
and i agree with u, bolle has a better shape, the line of his legs beautiful, but ive seen both and he doesnt transmit as much as corella, which is the important thing 4 me
first of all: beeing spanish doesn't mean to have the flamenco style (it is something u learn because it's ur family's tradition or in a dance school). Besides, the flamenco is a typical dance of Andalucía (the southern part of Spain) that is wrongly associated to whole Spain.
but this discussion is a nonsense because every person is different and so are his perceptions and his feelings: for u, corella is a disaster, for me, he's a god
From tr99ssttba in regard to RS100392 comments about Corella. Yes Acosta is a wonderful artist with superb technique BUT Corella is also an extraordinary artist with also superb technique! He's not to be discounted. He dances beautifully in almost all ways!
in response to all the comments about carlos acosta being so much better than angel corella:
sure maybe TECHNICALLY, but artistically NO WAY! angel has this presence. and he makes the character his own. when he is onstage you feel his energy and his joy of dancing. i have gotten this feeling from few dancers (and i have seen many many perform live) and none to the extent that angel is capable of.
I would even go so far as to say that Corella is better technically, as in, Corella does fall out of his pirouettes. Better artist=way more fun to watch and a much better overall dancer.
lol no there are plenty of guys who can "hold a candle to him". Carlos Acosta, Rolando Sarabia, Leonid Sarafanov, and Denis Matvienko are just a few that can easily "hold a candle to him".
But the technique shouldn't matter. Nowadays its all about how may turns you can do or how high you can get your leg up. What happened to real artistry and the true meaning of ballet?! Angel is keeping this alive with his unforgettable, unsurpassable performances!!
@FutureKitri i think it is because of the " dance schools" now parents use them just to dont bother for theyr children ... so they dont care if they learn good technique its all about to keep kids bussy
there is something about teh way he goes into his end pose that i love..he does that thing with his head before he lands on his knee..does anyone know what im talking about?
I actually think I should correct myself... there was only one turn that he was slightly off-center, so I take my previous comment back. And considering the tempo of the variation played by the orchestra... you cannot really waste time between transitions. He is absolutely phenomenal!
Corella has great stage presence and style, and his first and last turn, wow! Personally, I would have liked to have seen more control on his turns in between the first and the last one. I like watching Baryshnikov do this variation with his controlled turns (minus one turn he did that was slightly off-center) lol Of course I am being picky though! He's incredible!
lol no there are plenty of guys who can "hold a candle to him". Carlos Acosta, Rolando Sarabia, Leonid Sarafanov, and Denis Matvienko are just a few that can easily "hold a candle to him".
Angel Corella is the best in the world. Nureyev was great, but Corella is the BEST. NUMBER ONE. The only guy who can hold a candle to him is Herman Cornejo.
not bad? what an understatement! what does someone have to do to rate good in your book, dance it on water? Jesus Christ not dancing these days, sorry.

sorry but corella is EXTREMELY OVER RATED not only technically but as a performing artist too
please show me where the flamenco style in this solo is? and this is a dancer who is originally from spain (!!!)
this performance is typical ABT all flash and bling with no substance.thats why the companies in europe are better then the american ones
