It's foreigners, they don't like it. Durian is an acquired taste, like how wasabi is. I'm Singaporean as well, and I love doth durian and wasabi. I can eat wasabi straight from the tube, although I used to hate it in the past. It's something you grow used to, and when you encounter it for the first time, it can leave quite a deep impression.
