  • If only someone would make a proper ARM laptop with a few GB of RAM and bigger SSD.

  • @shaurz afaik ARM is working on 64bit CPU to do exact that! They also have planned to join the desktop market ^^ - ARM will rule..

  • Any updates from linux un tf101?

Is there working 3G internet? Is there any forum where devs is working on linux? Please say.

  • Nice work!

Will it work with 3G model?

And btw: The link is down :)

  • Is 1GB RAM enough?

  • how about windows 8?? ;) great work btw

  • would you consider it as stable? no matter how hard i try, i can't get used to android and i really would like to replace it with ubuntu (which is my love on the desktop :D)

  • This device is screaming for Gnome 3!!!!!

Seriously dude, go for Fedora 15 for pure awesomeness.

  • Where's the follow up "how-to" video? I would really like to see how this is done as I'm thinking of getting a transformer in the future. Making Linux run on it would be awesome.

  • cool would like to see something like this out on the market this is the very reason why everything is centered around ubuntu for the kinds of newer systems that will be using linux in the future seems alot of developers are geared toward making easy to use touch screen devices Bravo

  • can't get this to work, really a shame 'cause it would be totally awesome!!

  • Got any idea what wi-fi chip the transformer uses? sometimes asus sometimes use marvel im curious about compiling a module with the kernel headers.

  • @69fuzzynutz the transformer uses the same wifi module as most android devices do, bcm4329

  • Ive found the src for the broadcom4329 drivers for linux with makefiles etc on xda in a .rar file. Would be great if wireless worked.

  • @lilstevie89 how is the battery life? better?

  • Well done! Very good video. I especially liked how you overcame the lack of the battery meter.

  • stand up job dude! We need more DEVs like you, we are definitely lacking the Development department lately. The Transformer is hackable I dunno why we arent seeing more out of it

  • i use lubuntu

  • nice, did u try lubuntu ...it is much faster.

  • Very slow though. And I don't think Ubuntu has more apps than Android though, not to say ARM version of ubuntu

  • @jagruh the slowness is caused by µSD, the latest version is suitably fast on internal memory, which is available now on rootzwiki. ubuntu has quite a lot of apps, and something like 90% of them work on arm

  • @lilstevie89 hi, can it connect the tablet's camera on ubuntu? Or the camera just work on android. Thanks you very much

  • @lilstevie89 Hi I'm looking for a machine to do some programming on. Should be portable and light. After I've seen this I'm thinking about using the transformer 2 instead of a laptop. How much trouble was installing Ubuntu ? Could you maybe check if eclipse works on this ? Anyways great video

  • @lilstevie89 Where on rootzwiki? Post a link?

  • @jagruh

Of course linux has alot of application to install. I would bet there is around 400,000 to 500.000. Linux was first created 1993 or so. Heck of lot free application and programs.

  • Excellent work sir! Can't wait to see the how to, I'm honestly a bit scared to try this myself without some real guidance >_>

  • nice work! keep going!

  • @lilstevie89 What MicroSD card do you have in it? Because the bootloader works fine, but it won't boot the rootfs.ext2 I have even tried "ubuntu" and "Ubuntu" folder names.

  • @techhelper1 I have a kingston class2, but this is not the same as Jhintas' port, different method of attaining the boot, and also it is a boot image not bootloader :)

  • slow and gay

  • Will your boot.img load up any Linux distro, or only Ubuntu?

  • @JinxXiWolf theoretically it will boot any linux distro on a µSDs first partition. but things like the touchscreen will not work as advertised, ubuntu is the only GNU/Linux to have a multitouch enabled evdev driver. It is possible to patch up the driver with ease though, maybe I will include that in the next boot.img just to give that bit extra choice

  • Are the USB port fully functional?. I want to connect a USB audio recording device.

  • @BilTheKid64 The USB port is fully functional as a host, but YMMV when it comes to devices that have drivers in ubuntu arm

  • @lilstevie89 Ok thanks, that's right it works on my Ubuntu x86 with default driver but may be not on ARM... The only thing I ve to do is to test it for real.

  • It's alive... IT'S ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!

By the way how fast does it drain the battery? Without keyboard-dock...

  • Have you tired a usb mouse?? if that works it is a great step

  • just subscribed. i really wana see how you did this once you get the bugs worked out!! If i can get this working when you do a how to and the bugs are worked out there could be a nice size donation coming your way!!

  • @lilstevie89 Natty Narwhal is version 11.04, not 10.04. :)

  • @Leonivek oops typo, thanks for seeing that :p fixed

  • brilliant!

  • Awesome work

  • I'm following your forum and picking up a TF101 in a month or so if you need any help.
