For me, Rajneeshpuram was a very important experiment in the "free" country of the USA. I followed the reports of the time very exactly, though I have never be connected with the Osho movement. Looking in the eyes of the Osho People, I have the feeling they are much less "brainwashed" than the rest of western society. this fiasco was a result of very poor planning. rajneesh (apparently befuddled by valium and nitrous oxide) showed horrendous judgement in giving sheela and her group (also apparently heavily into valium) full rein in running the show. the reaction by the locals was easily foreseeable and couldnt have been handled more poorly. they should have tried california, which has a history of this kind of thing. unfortunately, the whole affair made many good people look like utter fools.

A great event, because it disables the possibility of RELIGION...
the research ive done would confirm the majority of people who lived at rajneeshpuram have good memories of the experience. however, their evaluations of rajneeshs complicity in what were pretty awful crimes varies. many of them were able to recognize in retrospect that some things were seriously wrong, but most want to believe that rajneesh knew nothing about it (unlikeley). i dont know in what context the ranch can be seen as anything but a debacle. blaming it all on sheela is too easy.
i havent been able to find that trailer. on google video the one called "The Empress Strikes Back" (a segment from the australian "60 Minutes") has very interesting footage of rajneesh and sheela during the crucial short time between sheelas flight and rajneesh's attempted escape from the u.s. also of interest would be the "ZOUDDA: Chai with Nirman---Ma Sheela" video which is relatively recent. in both of these videos these people appear to be playing a fascinating game of hardball.

The Ranch (Rajneeshpuram) Only failed because the leaders under him abused the power he gave them. When he realised things were gettin out of control, Hi was actually the 1 that invited the local authorities in to investigate.
But instead of recognising this fact, they turned against him & made him the bad guy. So maybe he had some error in judgement in who Hi put in charge, or in letting them get out of control, but hi did not intend it to end that way.

Thank you for posting this. I lived in Poona in 1989 for 5 months and saw Osho twice before he died. When I went, I had no idea any of the Oregon stuff had occurred---I just went and had a blast.

They definitely could have included more from Dave Fronmeyer as well, as he was the state's AG at the time. The Rashneeshees weren't just a spiritual group, they were a cult. Even though it was Sheila who was the impetus for their demise, they were collapsing under their own fallacies to begin with.

this fiasco was a result of very poor planning. rajneesh (apparently befuddled by valium and nitrous oxide) showed horrendous judgement in giving sheela and her group (also apparently heavily into valium) full rein in running the show. the reaction by the locals was easily foreseeable and couldnt have been handled more poorly. they should have tried california, which has a history of this kind of thing. unfortunately, the whole affair made many good people look like utter fools.

i've spoken to many many many people who lived inside the ranch for many years. And despite the end of the ranch, it was described as the most magical part of their lives. If you look at Osho on a vaster scale, and more in depth, Rajneeshpuram is an intinsic part of his message. the research ive done would confirm the majority of people who lived at rajneeshpuram have good memories of the experience. however, their evaluations of rajneeshs complicity in what were pretty awful crimes varies. many of them were able to recognize in retrospect that some things were seriously wrong, but most want to believe that rajneesh knew nothing about it (unlikeley). i dont know in what context the ranch can be seen as anything but a debacle. blaming it all on sheela is too easy.

i havent been able to find that trailer. on google video the one called "The Empress Strikes Back" (a segment from the australian "60 Minutes") has very interesting footage of rajneesh and sheela during the crucial short time between sheelas flight and rajneesh's attempted escape from the u.s. also of interest would be the "ZOUDDA: Chai with Nirman---Ma Sheela" video which is relatively recent. in both of these videos these people appear to be playing a fascinating game of hardball.

I don't consider myself a part of Osho movement because Osho never wanted anyone to follow him. These people were there out of their love for Osho and some were looking for salvation. The ones who loved Osho simply left and understood that its a paart of life. None of these people should have preconceived that they would live there rest of their lives. Oshos talks may help someone who is truly seeking to their path for enlightenment. He never cared for a legacy or a eutopia.

Basically, most people in Oregon support their home grown industry and buy Nike stuff. They don't like to recognize the fact that Nike exploits child labor overseas to make the products. Nike founder Phil Knight is an alum of U of Oregon and has pumped millions into it's sports programs. Nike's headquarters are in Beaverton, outside of Portland. It's not really a cult or anything sinister like that.

Well, I am a follower of Osho, & have studied much of his history, & talked to many of his long time followers, & as far as I can figure, hi is a wonderful man. The Ranch (Rajneeshpuram) Only failed because the leaders under him abused the power he gave them. When he realised things were gettin out of control, Hi was actually the 1 that invited the local authorities in to investigate.

Some of those who took advantage of Osho's trustfull nature and did things totally incomprehensible to sannyasins at large seem to carry in the minds of many. However even a recent statement by a US Federal associate on the Osho movement admits that Sheela was the only scratch on a pretty much peace-loving movmt.

haha dude!! you are pretty fraudulent. After sending me a private messages and going back and forth between opinions on Osho, you did admit your own regard for Osho! You are obsessed with these types of forums and spreading your own ignorance! I'm guessing its your own doubt about Osho that leads you insane on youtube. You can't figure out how someone like him ever existed---and its got to be "fraud" and "lies". Funny DUDE!! How can anyone be authentic when we are ourselves don't believe in it..

Thank you for posting this. I lived in Poona in 1989 for 5 months and saw Osho twice before he died. When I went, I had no idea any of the Oregon stuff had occurred---I just went and had a blast.

A mountain is, at the same time, high & low.
It just depends on where you are standing when you're looking upon it.
Now, could it be that Osho is also good & bad at the same time? If you focus on his clearness and peace & love, he was truely holy.
If you rather focus on his manupilating,
vanity and tricks he was truely bad.
Its up to us to choose which side we are rather looking at. Discussing the two sides doesnt help no-one for shure.
