I heard that it's a violation of Virgin Mobile's Terms of Service if you use your phone as a hotspot, and it's voids your warranty if your phone messed up. And I also heard that Virgin Mobile blocked Wi-Fi so if you wanted to connect your Optimus V to your Netbook, it wouldn't let you. And someone told me that connected your Optimus V to your Netbook, it wouldn't be able to access the Web.
@Storm804VA Yes- its a TOS violation, AND? I have a 2.1. This works, I use it. Been doing so for over a year, No issues. With 2.1, you don't void your warranty because you don't have to root your phone to get hotspot. 2.2 has to root their phone. ROOTING voids your warranty. Thats why you UNROOT before you return your phone.
Netbook will connect, depends on what type of hotspot platform you use.

Op v version 2.2.2 you have to root to hotspot. if you have version 2.2.2 and don't want to root you can always do USB tether. See LG Slider video on USB tether works the same. You can have you account disable if you use to much data always wise to use app to monitor in and out data on phone and 5GB is safe usage until they impose data throttle.

@FALLENANGEL1R you can try rooting with gingerbreak 1.2 and using an app such as barnacle. I have vid up for rooting Triumph with gingerbreak 1.2 4 videos uploading Sunday and that is one of them. So if unsure you can wait a day.

@5timmy01 the cap will be implemented oct 2011 for all VM devices broadband2go and beyond talk phones. it is still unlimited data. you just will have you data speed throttled after 2.5g and 2.5GB is more then what a lot of other carriers are offering right now and not near this low of price.

@MultiSpike29 but beware the there wil lbe a 2.5 GB data cap imposed starting OCT they announced this month. after 2.5 GB cap speed get throttles but they will not shut you off. or so they say

I've downloaded hotspot from the android market and the wifi works perfectly on my laptop .I have also speed test on both my devices, but my concern is only when I try to watch youtube, hulu or any vdeo online it doesn't works. @TheEldorado84 make sure all background programs are not running. You can use a task killer to see them and from laptop check your speed of the hotspot connection (speed test dot net) can't post links. I find in low speed areas that it takes a long time to load. try letting sit for 5-10 minutes or does it show a error message
@TheEldorado84 from pc from run menu (type in msconfig) you can see start up programs. don't shut them all off you could screw up computer but you can shut off adobe and other 3rd party programs read thier extension carefully

@TheEldorado84 what device are you trying to watch youtube on with the mifi? If PC go to (speed test dot net) (can't post links here) if android or smartphone look for the speed test dot net application from market. test to see what ping, download. You may have a good signal but high ping not goo (round trip time of message to go from host to device). select server to test from that is closes to you in miles. also check that you don't have background programs running.
Virgin Mobile will be changing it's prices for beyond talk plans. 300 min $35, 1200 min $45, Unlimited everything $55 a month.... there will no longer be a extra 10 dollar charge for Blackberry.
@JjjdrummerX depends on the time of day and the ping. 4-5 bar area busiest day 450-650kps download. Right this second , testing, with 2 bars (signal strength -90 dBm) my 3g test runs 150kps download and 81kps upload on the phone. Hope that helps.
@pickhard100 no but it is against virgin mobile usage so keep data usage down gb always safe number so you don't get flagged . like don't use it for netflix or video streaming on your pc. put this app on you optimus called Trafic Monitor widget by Radio opt it lets you see all traffic usage together and separate (wifi, tethering 3g) as well as how much data each application is using. Be sure and set you service restart date first or it will clear data amount already used when you do do it.
@stetlingquin what cell phone company? if verizon you have to pay extra for hotspot or chance with rooting your phone and (careful you chance bricking it). run a search for ... droid x cell Verizon hotspot ... and find program to run.

But if they feel you are using to much they can shut you phone off. just use zdbox and monitor data usage around 5gb should be fine (not bad for 25/month). Or as long as you are not streaming netflix. Hotspot I don't think was suppose to be included, oops somebody didn't block it. If you do get Optimus V and it gets the update wait to see if peoples hotspot got disable in the update. but you do know new phone out july19. we will see if it can HS

@daisey138 I hate contracts so much I am will to put up with occational issue with VM. The tech support can take a few days to fix issues, won't lie, call always work 4 me. But at these prices I have been able to get everybody in my house phones at the cost of just one phone +data with other companies on a contract. VM is verygood at replaceing phones. I don't recomend phone insurance. set the 5 a month aside. If you need hotspot then go with Optimus now. But if you can wait then...
@daisey138 I say wait cause VM is to release a new smartphone very soon. Posible release in June. It is to have 4.1" touch screen, snapdragon CPU (needed to run netflix via wifi), and android OS. They only release some of the specs it might have. Phone insurance for me redundant I protect my phone and defects already covered under warranty which VM handldes 1 yr replacements. Set aside 5 a month twards something newer incase anything happens. cause after deductable and prorate it not worth it.

I have installed this on my intercept, and I added the hotspot toggle widget. It turns on the hotspot, but when I drag the notification bar to configure the settings, nothing happens. I've dragged the notification bar down many times and pressed 'configure', but the notification bar slides back up, and nothing happens. The wifi signal appears on my macbook, but a password is needed. Would you happen to have any clue as to what the problem may be? I would greatly appreciate it.
@eherrera92020 you can't do this on you intercept it is blocked. Only Optimus V. and probably when the optimus gets the update to 2.3 gingerbread they will block it too. If that is the case I don't want an update for Optimus on my phone

@jsquaredgaming companies can say unlimited but there is what is called a fair use. It is said that you will be flagged around 10GB usage, I like app Zdbox has task killer, battery monitor, data monitor and more. So I know how much data I have used and hopefully I won't get flagged.
@tovarislas I believe they will cut off you service if you start using it for streaming movies. use at own risk. if they do just restart you service and don't do what you did to get service suspended
@The1theoneandonly1 go see video I made of manual update for intercept to 2.2.2 it shows intercept hotspot blocked when you try to connect a device. Optimus is 2.2.1 I don't think they intended for hotspot to be used for optimus . use at your own risk though.

@mstechify you can hit up the virginusa site and do a search for stores in a zip code, but it just tells you that they sell phones (or cards or whatever you pick) not which, since some stores only have the lesser models of phone. But sprint stores seem to carry this one, as does target. Those and best buy were the only places I saw them, and yeah, screw best buy and their $50 bump.
@naterod1719 it should optimus c it android 2.2 but isn't optimus C through cricket. They require you to pay 55 a month service for the phone. look at cricket data map very very small. They have mostly partnered data areas and that is not unlimited data and it says excessive use of partnered data will subject you to early termination. Virgin mobile has more coverage then cricket for data.

@fifi1314 hot spot is creating a data access like a router were you share your 3G data from your phone to to other devices. You share your 3G through the phones wifi. So when you hotspot you can not use the phones wifi to connect to another wifi router because your phone then becomes a router. hope that makes sense.
Bestbuy beware. Don't purchase Optimus V from Bestbuy. They have raised the price to 199.99. Called Bestbuy store and they said they are not keeping the phone in stock so they don't have to price match. Making profit off a phone that is in high demand dirty practice. I have found Optimus still for 149.99 at radioshack and target.
@Davidwilson1212 as long as you are not running the cool live wallpaper. I see no difference in how much active use I get from both phones. I do see that standby battery usage seems more better on the optimus. There are those that complain that optimus takes a little longer to charge but rapid charge is bad for any rechargeable for the life of the battery. Rapid charge damages cells from overheating. If your worried about battery you can buy an after market extended battery.
@Davidwilson1212 extended battery means it hold more juice. some batteries are twice the size and require a new phone back. Intercept and optimus stock batteries are 1500mAh. Optimus Extended battery is 1800mAh and it fits with no new back. or you can just get a cheaper emergency back up for long trips. search ebay for.... mAh Emergency Battery

I've downloaded hotspot from the android market and the wifi works perfectly on my laptop .I have also speed test on both my devices, but my concern is only when I try to watch youtube, hulu or any vdeo online it doesn't works. Is there any app I might have to boost the connection?

@TheEldorado84 make sure all background programs are not running. You can use a task killer to see them and from laptop check your speed of the hotspot connection (speed test dot net) can't post links. I find in low speed areas that it takes a long time to load. try letting sit for 5-10 minutes or does it show a error message

@TheEldorado84 from pc from run menu (type in msconfig) you can see start up programs. don't shut them all off you could screw up computer but you can shut off adobe and other 3rd party programs read thier extension carefully

@TheEldorado84 what device are you trying to watch youtube on with the mifi? If PC go to (speed test dot net) (can't post links here) if android or smartphone look for the speed test dot net application from market. test to see what ping, download. You may have a good signal but high ping not goo (round trip time of message to go from host to device). select server to test from that is closes to you in miles. also check that you don't have background programs running.

@JjjdrummerX depends on the time of day and the ping. 4-5 bar area busiest day 450-650kps download. Right this second , testing, with 2 bars (signal strength -90 dBm) my 3g test runs 150kps download and 81kps upload on the phone. Hope that helps.

@pickhard100 no but it is against virgin mobile usage so keep data usage down gb always safe number so you don't get flagged . like don't use it for netflix or video streaming on your pc. put this app on you optimus called Trafic Monitor widget by Radio opt it lets you see all traffic usage together and separate (wifi, tethering 3g) as well as how much data each application is using. Be sure and set you service restart date first or it will clear data amount already used when you do do it.

From your video, I understand that there is no need to buy any extra services for the tethering. (I now use June Fabrics for PDA but have had nothing but problems with ATT for two years) and that all comes already with the phone...correct?
Any idea how much the 'official' VM charge for tethering would be?

@VMKinnovations no additional cost for hotspot. But if they feel you are using to much they can shut you phone off. just use zdbox and monitor data usage around 5gb should be fine (not bad for 25/month). Or as long as you are not streaming netflix. Hotspot I don't think was suppose to be included, oops somebody didn't block it. If you do get Optimus V and it gets the update wait to see if peoples hotspot got disable in the update. but you do know new phone out july19. we will see if it can HS

ok so someone please help me, i been on sprint for the past 2 years contract i hate contracts! Sprint riped me of bad an charged outrages prices for "extra" data i didn't use. an idk wat to do, i could either go on Verizon with a another 2 year contact an either get the droid or iphone or go to virgin mobile an get the lg optimums shit. ik a droid is way better, but idk wat to do since i hate contracts an only way to get a real nice phone is get a 2 year agreement. some one help please?? :)

@daisey138 I hate contracts so much I am will to put up with occational issue with VM. The tech support can take a few days to fix issues, won't lie, call always work 4 me. But at these prices I have been able to get everybody in my house phones at the cost of just one phone +data with other companies on a contract. VM is verygood at replaceing phones. I don't recomend phone insurance. set the 5 a month aside. If you need hotspot then go with Optimus now. But if you can wait then...

@daisey138 I say wait cause VM is to release a new smartphone very soon. Posible release in June. It is to have 4.1" touch screen, snapdragon CPU (needed to run netflix via wifi), and android OS. They only release some of the specs it might have. Phone insurance for me redundant I protect my phone and defects already covered under warranty which VM handldes 1 yr replacements. Set aside 5 a month twards something newer incase anything happens. cause after deductable and prorate it not worth it.

I have installed this on my intercept, and I added the hotspot toggle widget. It turns on the hotspot, but when I drag the notification bar to configure the settings, nothing happens. I've dragged the notification bar down many times and pressed 'configure', but the notification bar slides back up, and nothing happens. The wifi signal appears on my macbook, but a password is needed. Would you happen to have any clue as to what the problem may be? I would greatly appreciate it.

@eherrera92020 you can't do this on you intercept it is blocked. Only Optimus V. and probably when the optimus gets the update to 2.3 gingerbread they will block it too. If that is the case I don't want an update for Optimus on my phone

@The1theoneandonly1 go see video I made of manual update for intercept to 2.2.2 it shows intercept hotspot blocked when you try to connect a device. Optimus is 2.2.1 I don't think they intended for hotspot to be used for optimus . use at your own risk though.

@mstechify you can hit up the virginusa site and do a search for stores in a zip code, but it just tells you that they sell phones (or cards or whatever you pick) not which, since some stores only have the lesser models of phone. But sprint stores seem to carry this one, as does target. Those and best buy were the only places I saw them, and yeah, screw best buy and their $50 bump.

@naterod1719 it should optimus c it android 2.2 but isn't optimus C through cricket. They require you to pay 55 a month service for the phone. look at cricket data map very very small. They have mostly partnered data areas and that is not unlimited data and it says excessive use of partnered data will subject you to early termination. Virgin mobile has more coverage then cricket for data.

@fifi1314 hot spot is creating a data access like a router were you share your 3G data from your phone to to other devices. You share your 3G through the phones wifi. So when you hotspot you can not use the phones wifi to connect to another wifi router because your phone then becomes a router. hope that makes sense.

Bestbuy beware. Don't purchase Optimus V from Bestbuy. They have raised the price to 199.99. Called Bestbuy store and they said they are not keeping the phone in stock so they don't have to price match. Making profit off a phone that is in high demand dirty practice. I have found Optimus still for 149.99 at radioshack and target.

@Davidwilson1212 as long as you are not running the cool live wallpaper. I see no difference in how much active use I get from both phones. I do see that standby battery usage seems more better on the optimus. There are those that complain that optimus takes a little longer to charge but rapid charge is bad for any rechargeable for the life of the battery. Rapid charge damages cells from overheating. If your worried about battery you can buy an after market extended battery.

@Davidwilson1212 extended battery means it hold more juice. some batteries are twice the size and require a new phone back. Intercept and optimus stock batteries are 1500mAh. Optimus Extended battery is 1800mAh and it fits with no new back. or you can just get a cheaper emergency back up for long trips. search ebay for.... mAh Emergency Battery
