  • I had crazy strong wind last Thursday/Friday, followed by multiple waves of snow.

    In New Mexico.

@_____@ My classes got cancelled today and everything...

And you're cool too. :D *got to the end of the video*

  • Sapporo? Really pretty except it's really cold lol

  • Okinawa? Beaches and a military base with lots of American guys your age.

  • I'd say go to an onsen, the outdoor ones are suppose to be nice during winter

  • Just travel around your town and find things you didnt know was there.

  • I understand Matsumoto is beautiful in winter. Plus they have the oldest castle in Japan that is still in it's original condition. and if you're going up that way you can hit Nagano and see the hot spring monkeys too.

  • Three words; Twilight Movie Marathon!

  • erm, excuse my ignorance, but does japan have a remembrance day type thing for Hiroshima and Nagasaki? That would be awkward to be an American there on that day, if it exists.

  • Snowboarding is awesome!

My understanding is they don't teach kids about Pearl Harbor in Japan. I've been told by a teacher friend in Japan this is why the younger generation is so convinced the US were the aggressors in WWII. They just see all the monuments about US attacks on Japan.

  • Seriously though, check out Shiga Kogen for skiing/snowboarding. It's south east of Nakano. If you like skiing/snowboarding or just relaxing and maybe visiting an onsen or two then you would probably love Shiga Kogen!

  • You might want to try Snow monkeys place in Jigokudani Onsen, Nagano

  • Hokkaido for snowboarding!

  • Remember Pearl Harbour Day? They have that? It's my wife's birthday, and even she claims to know very little about Pearl Harbour. She says it's normal for most Japanese.

I agree with einsguy - you should go skiing. Tochigi is known for it's ski hills, but still, they're probably not like back home. Onsen + skiing = Nagano. So there are two possibilities.

  • go skiing somewhere in Japan!

  • why not keep your vacation local?

  • Perhaps a staycation is in order. Go to an onsen, get a massage, new hair cut, pamper yourself a little. If I were in Japan, I would be going to New Years meetings at Soka Gakkai Culture Centers and members homes for parties.

  • I'd suggest heading to southern Japan if the climate is more hospitable during the winter break. Osaka/Kyoto would probably be the easiest choice. Maybe a city on KyuShu Island that has a lot rich historical landmarks.

  • I like shopping! ^o^/

  • The word "holiday" is just combining "holy" and "day". It doesn't have to be a positive.

  • I got a surprised attack while I was still sleeping from some American friends in the early morning on Dec.7th with a lot of ice cubes. Ha ha.

  • Head over to Tokyo and check out all the touristy stuff. You also have Yokohama, Kamakura and Hakone in the same area so you could see a lot of different things.

  • How about KAMAKURA and ENOSHIMA in Kanagawa prefecture? KAMAKURA is 13th century old shohunate town. ENOSHIMA is beautiful island near KAMAKURA.

There are many sharines and temples also Great budda.

It takes 2hr and 40min train ride from Sano.

  • I would say that the further south you go the better for the winter, Why not Fukoka or somewhere like that!

  • Maybe you can visit a science museum or something like that.

  • since I work at a ego juku we do parties every week this month, im prepping for mad games and stuff :3 not sure ill have energy to do anything for the holidays

its tough living in a homogeneous society but you arent alone even if it feels like it sometimes :P

  • If your like me, anytime you have a lazy break from work with no plans someone finds out about it and fills your day up with some kind of work or "asks for a favor" so i would plan to get out of the house if i were you.

  • Unfortunately your vacation is in December. Had it been in February i would've suggested Sapporo for their Snow Festival (雪まつり). If you have a chance definitely go. It's the biggest snow festival in the world from what i recall.

  • @Hentakkun Also, ironically perhaps, the snow festival has quite an interesting history to it. Somewhat intertwined with Pearl Harbor and WW2 in general.

  • You should have gone. The wind would have pushed you home. ;p

  • Comment removed

  • @Ocyra i think you forgot the fat stereotype.

  • I'd call it a memorial day?

  • oh and you should go see the golden palace in the snow...not that it will be snowing then but I recommend it regardless...thats in kyoto I think?

  • The most popular Japanese winter pastime is onsen. You should try outside baths. Cold above your shoulders, but warm under them.

  • You could always have a catch up on One Piece week on your down time.

  • the wind is stupid today... it blew my sheets away :(

  • great~~~~
