Totally agree with you, espcially when Rohini comes just before this line saying "Ku ri, tera baap ka maal hai"...Sridevi's timing was super in this scene...
@wizman009 the best part is "ab hanso.... roh ke hanso.... unchaa hanso..... shut up! now get out..." lollllllll aaaahahaha she's so funny in this film
very well directed movie..whres Pankaj Parashar now...he was so clear abt what he wanted. Superb screenplay and execution. Sri was the hero, heroine and everything....BTW Rajnikant was really gud in thsi movie. they had an amzing chemistry.
As per my knowledge this is first movie in bollywood history that actress is carelessly goes to and ask for beer in the liquior shop. In wekipediya its writen How a true artist make a remake (Chaalbaaz) more big the its superhit original(Sita aur Gita). Sridevi is definatly good but equally supported by other actors in this movie
Some of the best lines "All India Star Manju Michaeli Jacksoni Khadaili Hai" "Ek Brand New Taxi M--m-Madisarees" "Chi Chi Main Madeera Nahin Peeti Ji"...OMG LOL...I cant remember how many countless times we would address each other with "Ji". There was another scene where she replaces Rajnikanth's booze with kerosene and says "Ghaaslet Ji"
Today it's been two decades since Chaalbaaz , the complete entertaining movie from the 80s with the 'most iconic performance by an Indian actress' by the most complete actress Shridevi has been released .
classic , historical, this movie finally made me a sri fan what a detremination she made she that she lost weight for this fil it had everything songs rain dance classic dance performance on music expressing grief, comedy, she looks a total different perosn in each role, thrill, the stair case torture scene my god this woman is amazing, itna khubsurat itna shandar aur koi nahi ho hi nahi sakta.
thanks for replying..I have heard and read somewhere that sri has done a cameo in a marathi movie....I forgot the name..searching a lot...will be pleased if I get that video or any pics of that movie.............
Precisely, my friend!!! Chof, we can dissect the work of this woman as long as we please, but there is one thing certain - and something that always remains true every time we mention the word "Sridevi": there's just absolutely NOTHING that this woman cannot partake in and hold her own 'till the very end!!!!!! It's like being skeptical about Picasso's extraordinary potential in creating a masterpiece or doubting his line of work. When one is simply AMAZING...one just IS!!!!!!!!
I, personally, am biased for double roles since I always believe that such characters bring out the ultimate best in actors/actresses. In such a case, not only are they made to enact a certain character (which, of course, Sri masters like the pro that she is!!), but a complete opposite of the first character as well. That takes diligence, hard work, effort, and most of all, TALENT!!! Granted my adoration for double roles, "Seeta aur Geeta" is my favorite film in the whole, wide world:)
i still can't over this movie....watched over 200 times! haha....love each and every scene she plays....no one could have done this movie but Sridevi!
halimali, I thank you dearly from the bottom of my heart - as one huge Sridevi fan to another - for uploading this gem of a scene!!!!! You and your uploads are highly appreciated!!! Thank you very, very, very much!!!!!!
I hold this film dear to my heart because it came out the exact year I was born:) Twenty years have passed, but the freshness and energy of the wonderful and magnificent Anju/Manju duo is still "visible" and kept intact.
As this legendary scene from the equally-legendary film showcases: Sris one bad mamajama, and she knows it!!!! Dare anyone mess with the fire and energy bolt that is she!!! I grew up watching Sri films from the mere age of five, and, evidently, she hasnt let me down with any of her productions since. That's the magic of her: she has us coming back for more!!! "Chaalbaaz" is in my top-two list of favorite Devi films, and will always be. The perfect laugh-out-loud comedy from the comic genius!!
While Sridevi easily made us laugh throughout her jokes as the fiery, feisty, and in-control missy that is the lovable and powerful Manju, she equally made us cry and share her sorrows and problems imposed by her cruel uncle and aunt in her compelling performance as the other twin, Anju. What both roles had in common - or, must I say, what Sridevi had in common - was that she was utterly believable with both characters during the entire film. That takes talent - and talent is what she has!!!!
While most artists can't help but brag about their so-called talent as a new way of passing time, or - as they like to refer to it - "being productive with their time," what you have with this remarkable phenomenon is a woman with a high degree of acting talent, who is not one bit ashamed of exercising at her own will. When one mentions the name "Sridevi," the automatic and involuntary response is "acting." That's how provocative her acting prowess is to the general public - on its own league!!
When one mentions the name Sridevi, one is not left wondering about the identity of this person - clearly, testament to her ever-growing fan-base, comprised of people from varying ages, genders, backgrounds, cultures, socio-economic statuses, etc. Aside from a face that could easily be held as the archetype for the title "Stunning woman!!!," what Sridevi proudly possesses in accordance to the aforementioned is a little thing called TALENT. A talented actress, a beauteous woman. Need I say more??
The magic, power, and passion of Sridevi as twins Anju and Manju could easily be analogous to a chubby kid in a candy store: one cannot get enough!!! Not only is her beauty at an all-time peak, with her rich facial features echoing power with a considerable amount of femininity to act as an addition on a package that is evidently - and undoubtedly - so extremely "complete" in existence and nature, but so are her various others aspects - which have continually made Sri whom she is - La Devi!!!!!!
hahhaha I love teh scene where shakti kapoor forces her to say BALMAAA MERA BALMAAAA...hahahaha... even being so serious the lady throws you into laughter... thats real comedy ...lol
There is another scene I would love to see from this movie. The dialogs are something like this:
Sridevi: Maal tere baap ka hi sahi, lekin maine thoda lagaa liya to tere baap ka kya jaayega
That was awesomely funny

Actually "she held the whole movie over her shoulder", even the "co-stars" were her support, as he was the Ultimate Hero :).
