This captures the essence of the song for me... when I hum in between the solo guitar arrangement I sometimes come up the types of melodies played here. So nice to see some ideas expressed musically.
Who Whouldn´t cry a tear listening to this :´D I mean listen, it´s all about feelings for his family, this man knows how to make a song full of feelings, and that I tell you, it´s the most beutifull you can do in music! :D
I think it's because the double bass isn't really a traditional part of the chamber ensemble. A string quartet 9 times out of 10 consists of 2 violins, a viola and a cello.
I guess this means that there isn't a great body of work - even arranged work - that incorporates the double bass. A cello is usually enough to hold the bass line.
Shame really, because it's such a powerful instrument.
Sounds like a great idea!! I would love to add some extra bits into this song, there are just too many "copies" of the song by other people which are all exactly the same!
He is great ... singer, song "man" interpreter ... it's about the emotion ... and the song has meaning and you experience it in ever fiber of his body ... thank you TE ...
Some say the guitar doesn't belong as an orchestal instrument and I know some people who have dismissed it entirely... let this be the record that shows that Tommy Emmanuel has rewritten the rule book
Such an unbelievably astounding performance. The first time I heard this song, I could have sworn I heard a string section at times. A Premonition? Tommy is The Man.
This piece is played with a group from the Lexington Philharmonic Orchestra I believe. We just saw Tommy and he is NOT fat;almost skinny as a matter of fact. You know what cameras do to us :))) Joanne
Tommy Emmanuel has been my favorite guitarist for along time now. But I have to say that intro was a little cheesey. Cheese is cool though. I like cheese.

Exquisite arrangement. I've listened to this song a lot on the Endless Road CD, where it's just Tommy solo, no strings.
About the double bass, perhaps Tommy felt it would be too strong.

violin sound too high
jadebai 3 years ago
Yeah, clearly they need to work on that.
WTF, how can people seriously leave these kinds of comments on videos like this?
kinggimped 3 years ago
They need an acoustic bass up and the cello needs to be bit louder while the viola could use a better rythem instead of just playing with the violin.
Not to mention there's huge potential for an amazing guitar/violin solo.
The arrangment could be better written but the musicians themselves are fantastic to say the least.
10/5.

Don't usually have double basses in chamber string groups like this. Don't really know why.

hes no singer, but it did add to the emotion, jsut like, in my opinion, the stringed quartet did.
emmauelfan 4 years ago
i dont see nothing bad about his singing in the beginning, by the way, i think that was given more emotion to his first part of the song.

Actually, vjohn, I was hoping they'd take the other instruments out! Emmanuel sounds better without that mess drowning him out.
