Those racehorses their not being neglactied my uncle and dad are in the racing buisness and some of those trainers spend alot of money on those horses and some are just plain spoiled over there on the track
@rodeosabuseanimals wtf take a look at yourself. If these horses where not raced, they would be in a slaughter house, My horse doesnt run because I force it, it loves it.and many breeds of horse a prone to joint disfunctions etc. So don't call him a asshole when its quite clear you are. Stupid idiot.
When MONEY and GLORY reign over the health, safety, and well being of an animal, that's when I object. As a veterinarian who has spent time on the racetrack first hand, I have seen a lot, and it is discouraging. Money is definitely the most important factor there. It's a real shame, however, because there is no doubt in my mind that some of these animals truly do love what they do. It's the greed and pride of the people that make me sick to my stomach.
So, as we all know all animals have either a fight or flight instinct. Horses are blessed with the flight instinct since they have been given nothing to defend themselves. Therefore, running they love to do. Now I'm not saying starting them at one and running them in to the ground is something i believe in, and i do think some people go about training the wrong way, but they do love to run. And if you think you can force a 1200 lb animal to do something against its will you are an idiot.
@blondie42685 I'm not sure you can equate an instinct with enjoying something. Plenty of dogs have a fight instinct, but does that mean they ENJOY fighting? Not so much. I'm with you that some horses do, in fact, enjoy running, but plenty don't. My OTTB found racing too stressful, and was terrible at it. Dressage, however, turned out to be his forte. And never underestimate the power of psychology in training...
@hidenseeker424 I agree that sticking a horse in a starting gate in a stressful situation is absolutely NOT for all horses. But I've never been on a horse that didn't want to gallop across an open field on a hack. (Including a Nijinsky baby who would lay down at the starting gate before a race, and gallop nicely across a field on a hack) Never did i say RACING was for all horses. And at what point exactly did i "underestimate the power of psychology in training"?
@blondie42685 I was talking about you saying that you can't force a horse into doing anything. Horses are herd animals, and the majority of them are not terribly dominant. If you know what psychological and physical buttons to push, you're very likely to get them to do almost whatever they want. It's too much work for most horses to fight unless they are being horribly hurt; even the stubbornest of ponies will jump a fence with the right rider.
@hidenseeker424 When i said force i meant BRUTE physical force. You can NOT psychologically FORCE a horse to do something, because that is persuading them to obey or asking for there trust. When you approach a horse Psychologically you are not beating them to a pulp until they leave the starting gate you are working to gain there trust. And i agree that the stubbornest of ponies will jump a fence if you earn there trust, NOT force them over the fence.
@blondie42685 no offence .... but yes u can. it's very easy the sulution is called "beating" and "whimping" ... as u can see in every horse sport... it's not a good result but it can be done. a lot of people get paid for doing that ... called "Bad Trainers" ... there are good ones too ... as I said no offence ... I'm just sayin...
I still stand for my earlier posted comment, I don't give a shit if some people want believe that all rodeos, horse racing, etc is 'bad'. I love barrel racing, yeah that's right Barrel Racing and so does my horse. I own a beautiful and spoiled just the right amount quarter horse, who loves to turn around those barrels, he even loves a good straight away run. No, I don't force him to do any of this hell he fights me if I try and make him slow down in the middle of a good gallop.
I strongly agree with "animelover462" my horse is a fox hunting, fast, and one jumping son of a bitch. Now, ur gonna tell me that i FORCED him to do it?? Hell no! He does it because he WANTS to. It's in his blood. So if u dumb ass's are going to leave some wimpy ass comments, saying it's bad to barrel race, or horse race, u obviously need to find something better to do.
I agree with animelover462. It's not the disciplines that we ask our horses to do... it's how we ask them, and how we deal with them whilst we're doing it. I showjump mostly, in a french link because my pony has a very soft mouth... but I still think it's cruel when I see other riders in the same classes as me, with their hands up by their shoulders, yanking on the poor horse's mouth and clearly gagging them, it's vile. Horses aren't born with hard mouths, people make them that way.
Plain and simple Race Horses love to run, 99.9 percent of them will be sold to loving homes. Rodeo horses such as Barrel horses, Bucking horses etc. LOVE what they do. If they don't love it they switch disiplines sports or both.
I do not belive in god, and I think it is sad when an animal dies. And I think it is an unfit end to send a faithful friend and/or servent to slaughter. But, yes, sometimes horses dies. sometimes doing what they love to do, sometimes they get sick or hurt, and sometimes they are killed. But I think most horseowners try to avoid it. And bits and saddles are not crule if you it fits, and you use it correctly.
I've never really liked the thought of having a piece of metal in a horse's mouth (bit), and a tight piece of material around its belly (girth), but as long as you don't strain the horse, give it love and that it's trained, and will tolerate the work, then I guess it is okay.
peoples shut the fuck up! who cares if horses fuckin die! at least they are doing what they love. Like ruffian or barbaro. Things happen. If any of you fuckers believed in god then you would know the horses are in a better place. Earth is a shit hole for any animal...let alone a human!!
ya know it is funny cause you have so many people saying how horse racing is such a cruel sport, but then they love show jumping or cross country, which are just as dangerous and "cruel" i love all horse racing and show jumping and cross country, i love every minuet of it, but some people just need to think what there saying or typing before they do it. . .
no no no. Dont even compare show jumping and cross country and horse racing. You can event and jump a horse for years and retire it to a good home to a begginer rider. You how ever can not retire a horse from racing and give to a begginer. The things they do to those horses in the first few years of their lives are very cruel and hurtfull, and most of the come out with not jus tmessed up legs and hoofs, but messed up in the HEAD. it can take years for them to recover from their track life.
yeah i know but x-racehorses can be very good, i know what they do to them, i have a cousin in racing, and i do not agree with it, i did not mean that way, i just said it was funny.
i think racing gets a bad rep because of the way racehorses are sometimes treated in the industry and because its the most well known and seen horse sport in the public so lot more people are aware of it. but unfortunatly you get shitty owners/riders in every sport.

cross country and stuff is bad but not as bad as racing they slap the horses with whips 30 time every min and ecpect them to run a full 2 miles in less then a min it is crule and if they dont want them THEY SEND THEM 2 A SLAUGHTER HOUSE!! and if it isnt in this country like the USA than they send them to mexico or canada if u luv racing so much u should know all this stuff they dont do that w/ jumping or cross country and u should know they slaghtering prosses because i knew and than stoped.
i never said i loved horse racing, i know i have a cousin in racing and i do not agree with it at all, i do cross country, dressage, hunter/jumpers, eventing, i know what they do with the horses, but not all racing is bad, i do know the slaughter process' ya know you should really know who you are talking to before you go and tell me a bunch of stuff i already know.
okay lets discuss whats wrong with your comment. first, xc riders do NOT hit their horses more than 3 times before a jump because if they do, they get ELIMINATED. and how the hell would you know if they send them to the slaughter house? id say about 0.0005% of people do that. you obviously dont know shit about xc or the racing industry, so learn your facts first.
yes dont u know if they dont want the horse they either sell them or if they are crule ppl which half of them are the send them to another countrie and slaugter them!!! i would know!
obviously if they dont want their horse they sell them? no shit? they very rarely get sent to the slaughter house. unless you personally have been in the industry for years, youd have no idea. im sure you just read ONE story about ONE horse that got sent there or somehing. grow up.
You would know? Really? Does that mean you slaughter YOUR unwanted horses? 'Cause that's really the only way "you would know." Think before you speak. And for God's sake, learn English!
