But I would rather be sitting in a stuffy little mold ridden hall listening to the Sibelius violin concerto, played on this instrument, in the hands of someone who deserved it artistically rather than merely having the necessary purchasing power. Lets face it, His audience would be just as happy if he was knocking this tune out on a Kawai keyboard he picked up on ebay. My uncle Larry plays this on his accordion no worse than this.

I dont know one violinist from another but after seeing him last night in Sydney I can tell you he would have to be in the top 3. The show he did last night as amazing. It took a dutchman to show myself how proud I am to be an Aussie. The last 40 minutes of his show is pure magic.

This is a beautiful piece of music, but am I the only one to think there isn't anything particulary special about Andre Rieu? My best friend can play the violin at this level and countless other people can. If you want to know who the best violinist in the world is, google Itzhak Perlman.

It's not his virtuosity. He's not trying to be Perlman or any of the greats. It's like he said, he wants to bring classical music back to the people and part of that is bringing it in a way people understand like playing pop songs. As a violinist who plays often in the public eye I am more often asked, "Play Freebird!" or "Rap!" then Mendelssohn. People like repetition and familiarity now-a-days, not 40 minute symphonies. I find it ironic that I talk about this to the song, "My way." XD

Couldn't agree more. Andre plays like a kid and the good violin players might refuse to listen to him. So far I haven't seen any performance by Andre Rieu worth mentioning.
