i personally think its sort of easier for you being from the south as your accent is more plain English. but im from sheffield and my mum from Barnsley so i have a mixed accent with all the weird word pronunciations, after i left uni i lived in Texas for around 2 years but it took around 2 months before my neighbours could understand me but as if that wasn't bad enough some of them thought i had some mental disability which they gladly told me asif it was just something normal to say!

The reason people get australian,new zealand and english accents confused is because both new zealand and australia were colonised by the british, australia as a jail as the jails in britian were overflowing and new zealand because they wanted to beat the french. If you have ever heard an australian speak,then a kiwi speak and then a pom speak you will know that they dont sound the same and if they do you need to pull your fingers out of your ears. i grew up in England, i current reside in the state. i got people asking me "OMG, where did you get accent from?" all the time. the first year in university, it got so annoying. i just started to fake my American accent to stop people bugging me about my accent. look, people talk with accent all the time (ex, people from Texas talk with an Texan accent). it's not a big deal. but, for some reason, Americans just don't get it.
