For the people who never knew about this ending... in your country, wherever that is... was the S-Mart ending the original one for DVDs in your region? 'cause this is the ending of the DVD I have (UK), with the S-Mart ending marked as an extra feature.

I'm guessing that's the case, unless you've just not seen it since it was out in theatres back in '93?

Ha!!!! greatest ending ever IMO! I love the Kmart one but it feels too much like a copout whereas this one... I prefer it for several reasons but a few are:

1. Dumb Ash returns! He was dumb in films 1 and 2 and but went smart in 3, now he's back to the dumb Ash, he gets distracted and drinks too much potion.

2. It proves Ash will never win, and that's why we love him so much too.

3. Also, it's freakin HILARIOUS! I mean, that face at 3:08 and the best line ever: I SLEPT TOO LONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@biggeridiotthanu Film One. He just stood there and watched and didn't grow a pair until everyone around him dies. Hell Scott has to jump in and do all the killing.

Film Two. Depending on how you see the "recollection" he could've been dumb enough to return to the cabin, we don't know. Second one he's a tad smarter but still dumb. Even Bruce says so in the commentaries.

@biggeridiotthanu Even on the DVD commentary, Bruce the man himself says Ash is dumb. In fact on the ED1 commentary he makes tonnes of references to it. Watching people around you die as opposed to jumping in and saving them is indeed cowardly, but dumb too.

The Uk TV ending was always this one, slept too long, with the supermarket battle shown after the credits.

Don't know about the new Blu Ray but I assume its the slept too long one as we are used to it.

The 'S-Mart' ending is way, way, way better. I'm so glad they put it in instead of this one. The "hail to the king, baby" line is legend and the film just wouldn't have been the same without it.

when saw this movie for the first time back in `94 this is how the movie ended when i saw i again last year it ended in S-mart.the directors did the other ending `cause they thought this one is a bit pesimistic and dark.for me, both endings are just fine!love this movie!

all I said why people think the ending is pasemistic perhaps only several location in the world were destroyed and he can find a new place

and that I doubt that there will be a sequal because unfortunately the actor is too old and the creators said it is a problem to make a sequal
