Actually, if you watch the credits after the movie, you'd see that Lucario and Aaron are both still alive. The scene shows Aaron and Lucario, and Aaron is holding the same kind of chocolate bar Max had. Then the view widens and shows them walking toward the castle. I seriously doubt that the same company made chocolate 1000 years in the past, so this means that they are both in the present and therefor are both alive and well. Don't you just love happy endings?
