The interviewer didn't say he was innocent by demonstrating "Gene" was guilty of wrongdoing. we all have done wrong. the point was to know that we aren't good enough on our own. God forgives, & has already made the way to be pardoned. The Book of Ephesians in the Bible, Chapter 2 is great to read. Eph.2:verse 8 says "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-not by works, so that no one can boast."
