@Michael272727 I know this comment is four months old, but I agree. What always struck me watching this scene, even as a kid, was seeing the confusion on Dr Banner's face as he continued to try and change the tire. Good stuff.
@Haywerth I used to love the series when I was younger. I have seen it on RTV more recently. I think the effects they used then blow the computer generated ones away. The camera angles, the lighting, everything seemed so much more real than the computer genrated movies that were out recently. Plus, it goes without saying, Bill Bixby was amazing in everything he did.
The movies were such a let down! The television show was more real and I agree with what another posted in that they did not capture Banner's inner turmoil! I hope they do a remake without the computer enhanced stuff also!
Me and my older-brother Kevin once talked about how we liked how creepy Hulk was in this scene, because he's obscured in shadow, so you almost can't see his full appearance
The 2003 film HULK starring Eric Bana was just shite, the plot was all over place there was no build up to the hulkout the hulk him self looked more like a action figure, the 2008 film The Incredible Hulk with Edward Norton was bit better and had both ellements of the comic book & the tv series but the hulk still looks a bit crap as CGI the TV Hulk is best one with down to earth plots & believeble charigters even the hulkouts are more realistic
This transformation scene looked so realistic back in the day, but now all the new effects have come out this looks, well, ......how do i put this......erm....not as realistic. It is still a good show though i watch it all the time.
they put quite a bit into this transformation but they was all great in my opinion...yes he was unaware of what was happening.....for some reason alot of people think that he killed his wife in this scene...i guess they wasn't glued to the screen like i was through every single episode more than once....by the way what did everyone think about the other hulk he had to fight...or the first as it was called.
When I watched this as a kid, for some reason what got to me the most was that it seemed like David was totally unaware of what was happening to him and continued to try changing the tire while transforming.
net result; bent wheel nut spanner, ripped clothes, wheel not changed. O yeah it looks romantic to be the hulk but it must've been a pain in the as sto be David banner
There were definitely some great episodes of 'The Incredible Hulk', albeit few and far between. The pilot episode from which this clip is pulled is excellent.
What they really messed up on in the movies in not spending sufficient time on the transformation. Neither Bana or Norton captured Bill Bixby's "inner turmoil" during his transformation into the hulk.
You forget the scene in The Incredible Hulk where Bruce is strapped to the table and hulks out. That was a long and drawn-out, painful process, from the looks of it...i almost felt the same pain just watching it. It took a full two minutes to transform.
It's a closely-guarded secret, but in interviews of the program, it was revealed that the costume designers would actual take Bill Bixby's wardrobe for the scenes, cut it, and have Lou Ferrigno wear them to make it appear as if he was tearing through them as Banner transformed into the Hulk.
that's classic. Why don't they use a bodybuilder for the new movies, it looks better than stupid ass CGI that takes all the reality out of the movie and leaves you with a cartoonish, unnatural pile of crap.
Obviously that type of morphing isn't scientifically possible as far as I know, but I do think it seems more realistic when someone transforms into a bigger human, instead of from a human to a cartoon character. A good sci-fi movie makes the impossible seem like it could somehow happen, a bad one seems corny and fake. The new one probably will have a better story and acting, but the CGI will most likely dissapoint me based on the trailer.
The movies are trying to show the Hulk as he's supposed to be. The Hulk is supposed to be able to jump from here to the moon in a single leap. As much as I loved the show (still do), a human being can't play the Hulk as he's supposed to be. They had to power him down for Lou Ferrigno to play him.
Well you are definately entitled to your opinion. I like that they dumbed him down, it was real. I'm surprised they can't use a human actor/bodybuilder like ferrigno and some CGI to make it more realistic. Just seeing the fake looking hulk drives me nuts, I can't get into it.
The movie was absolutely great. Iron man was good too, but I wanted to see the Mandarin. Here we had Abomination, the leader, Shield, Stark, they cut out Captain America. A good way to revive a marvel icon. The Avengers movie is just a reality. :)
This scared the bejeezus outta me when I was a kid - this was on when I was really young, maybe 6 or 7. I was always scared when we passed a guy changing a tire, as I thought this may actually happen...LOL! I know, I am a dork - but I sure love this clip now!
This is one of my favourites out of the entire series..another favourite hulk out is from The Death of The Incredible Hulk, when he's in the machine with cables and stuff around his body and he gets shocked to make himself angry..you have to see it to think of it really.

Don't you mean "QUEEN OUT" THE HULK IS THE BEST GAY METAPHOR EVER...He's a LONER...He HAS A SECRET...He looks like a REGULAT GUY...He HATES WHO HE IS WITHIN...Until under CERTAIN circumstances, he can't help but to "HULK_OUT" (queen-out)...Most people see him as A MONSTER...When he actually finds someone who doesn't mind his CONDITION, he can't handle the affection, so he leaves...NEED I SAY MORE? The Incredible Hulk (the 70;s show at least)is CHOCKFULL OF GAY SUBTEXT!
I really wish they would do a new TV series. Forget the film and the comic books, just do a new series exactly like the old 70s one, with a big muscleman in green paint and the kickass hulkouts where the music gets all excited as the camera does the crazy zoom on the eyes!
This is the classic of them all!!, I hope the director will use and recreate some of these scene for the new Hulk movie. The rain works well! I won't let him change my tyres!
that was a good show. i was wondering what about if would have been this show with a woman turning into she hulk, like that, i hope they make a tv show with a woman becoming green and bigger, never know maybe some day.
That would be cool as well. But if we wanted a realistic female hulk-out, then it would have to be more adult because people won't buy into it if 'she' didn't rip her upper body clothes and whatever else she may have had there.
I remember the episode where the hulk is in a dept store and sees a green female manequin. He stops what he is doing and soft music starts playing in the background almost implying that the hulk is capable of romantic and other non-angry emotions.
The moments of subtle humor really added to the show for me. One of my favorites (I still laugh about it when I think of it today) was the Hulk out 2 scene -- from the episode in which he was paralyzed -- where Banner was trying to drive the car while wearing the leg braces and having the impartient driver of the pick-up behind him. The look on the truck driver's face was just priceless when he sees the door flying off and then sees who is sitting in the driver's seat. "MY TRUCK!"
The Harder They Fall (Season 4). One of the true times that shows how Banner being The Hulk helps him otherwise he would have been paralyzed for life.
If they do decide to bring the she-huk to tv or movies, they should have her clothes rip apart until there's nothing left but her bra and panties. Yeah, The She-Hulk wearing nothing but bra and panties. That would be awesome!
0:50 to 1:01 is always epic when the Hulk stands up tall and all powerful!

the reason why the hulk movies suck is because they rely too much on all the technology we have today, and they make the hulk outs so fake looking.
back in the day, they had to use creativity to make up for the lack of technology...and that's why those hulk outs in the 70's were much better.
