  • This is their all-time number 1 for me. 20 years of sounds in one track! They took Roxy Music - love is the drug) and mixed it with Talking Heads (Psychokiller), even the singing becomes very Brian Ferry at times and the moves Very David Byrne. And all this gives you the sound for H-Town "Part time lover", Abba-Gimme, Gimme (same year), a Serge Gainsbourg thing, Eric Serra - le Grand Bleu, with lots of Spandau Ballet riffs and Duran Duran screetching in between, amazing, Pre-Chemical Brothers

  • Blur's girls who like boys who like boys... is in it.

Gainsbourg one was Down on the beach

  • Pure class

  • This was the time to see bands like Simple Minds. Before they became an over blown stadium band.

  • Iggy Pop was in the front row watching.

  • Where in NY was this recorded?

  • @Craiggrapple It was filmed at Hurrah's in October of 79.

  • @Craiggrapple I think in the Hurrah Club NYC, October 1979. At least there is a bonus track from that concert on the reissue of the Real To Real album.

  • Simply amazing version.

  • Thank you for putting this up, its amazingly good! As have been said before, SM was ace at this time. Had their own sound, edgy and awesome! xxx

  • The band were so good with this line up. After the original rhythm section had gone, it was never the same... :(

  • One of the first songs I heard that switched me onto the bass..Derek Forbes is a genius and they never the same when he left.

  • this bass line is ACE!!! Their first 3 to 4 albums were amazing

  • @blurmusic all albums till sparkle in the rain are epic

  • Charlie Burchill playing a Flying V!

  • @MrAmadaeus I totally agree, simple minds were over as a creative force when Derek Forbes left

  • @moldyolddough1 I think you could say they were dependant on each other as a unit creatively..The whole is greater than it's parts. At the end of the day any great band is for that very reason what was great the fact that they made the music they did ,together!

  • Their, always troublesome for all bands, second album, Reel To Reel Cacophony, was a pretty good effort that deserves a dust off, now!!

There was a good, long instrumental intro on this live version, too...

  • Their, always troublesome for all bands, second album, Reel To Reel Cacophony, was a pretty good effort that deserves a dust off, now!!

  • The drummer (Brian McGee) sings backing vocals on this song. Notice at 3:40 onwards that his lips never move. Having said that, Its still brillant footage & a brilliant performance. Shame someone has messed around with it!!!!
