according to the world's leading popcorn expert at popcorn-songdotcom, the apollo 100 version is a combination of two anarchic system tracks, the vocal and the instrumental versions. his site has a comprehensive list of what looks to be over 500 cover versions of the song, dating back to the original by gershon kingsley in 1969.
While this version of "Popcorn" was only an Apollo 100 album track and never a hit, it's pretty good. The original was credited to Hot Butter, which was actually Moog synthesizer player Stan Free. Hot Butter's version, which reached #9 in the summer of 1972, was the very first pop hit ever to be played ENTIRELY on a synthesizer. The single was released as Musicor 1458.
I've received a notice from YouTube: "You have videos that may contain content that is owned by someone else. Please review these videos." And it links me to this one. Don't be surprised if it disappears. Pure insanity.
@TimothyQStanton It even says "Anarchic System" now when it was ripped directly from Apollo100's album. Great world we live in today, eh? This is ridiculous. Makes you wonder who really owns the song now
@TimothyQStanton Whoever holds these copyrights now probably has no intention whatsoever of re-releasing them commercially. Probably someone out there is buying up copyrights very quietly in hope of playing gotcha games with harmless YouTubers. Putting this track on YouTube is educational: I learned that "Popcorn" actually has lyrics. Down with SOPA. Free the Internet!
@TimothyQStanton The YT Police should go after people who post movies illegally online. I've found several people who put recent movies on YT.......it's all politics i say. :(
awsome this is my favorite version, finally someone put this on here.i got this album in my basement but gotta search through all the records to find it poop
@PolskaRezystans I'm sure this is the Anarchic System version, from the same year. It's length is showing as being very close to the Apollo 100 version, but this version we're hearing is edited down from about 3:07. The info on the right is well detailed and correct for Apollo 100, but this can't be them, unless they spent ages copying it to sound precisely the same! Anarchic System were French, and had Christian Lerouge, a top synth programmer of the '70s.
@IThinkYouLookLarvely: You are hearing the mp3 that I myself created straight off the Apollo 100 album (the one you see in the video). This is them. Not sure how you could think otherwise? Do you think I uploaded an entire A100 album, then stuck a random tune in as theirs?lol
@TimothyQStanton Well, I'm certainly not disputing it's from your Apollo record, in fact one of the comments on one of the Anarchic System versions helps confirm it. There must've been some form agreement going on between these artists! Have a listen to the version typing "anarchic system pop corn" (with the space between pop + corn) in the search, and you'll have to agree they sound identical, bar a couple of edits on the Apollo version. (Wish YT would let us post links here to their own site!)
@IThinkYouLookLarvely: Actually I did search for the Anarchic version last night and was very surprised to hear what I heard. Like you say, there had to be an agreement between them, which could actually spawn a few conspiracy theories, lol. Is A100 actually Anarchic System in disguise? Or vice versa? hmmmmmm.....
@TimothyQStanton It's a mystery alright. The thing that makes me think it's originally the Anarchic version edited slightly, is that the rest of the Apollo album has a different more orchestral/light rock sound to it than Anarchic's more OTT synth sound from that time (another hit, Carmen Brasilia has the same sound). Otherwise I can't find any info saying how or why the versions are virtually the same. Hmmmmm indeed....!
there are about 10,000 different versions of this song...with and without lyrics :D

What great musicians. Took a classical classic and put their own spin on it. Fantastic. I remember it well.
