I think there was quite a significant difference in the make up of the factions originally... (since Allies appeared to be good and beautiful (for lack of a better word..humans, elves yada yada) while the horde was populated by hideous monsters... New as well as younger players were attracted to it bcoz of this.

The introduction of a pretty race + enough time passing to let the game mature seems to have evened it out now so there's less of a difference.

Thats my theory anyway.

The huge difference between Horde and Alliance isn't playerbase or Blizzard's bias or anything; that's all been evened out.

The main difference is that Alliance don't give a shit that they're Alliance. Horde like to exclaim "HORDE FTW", even in real life.
