  • I've driven both and I prefer the S15 in droves. Its a car that begs to be driven. It has a much sharper feel to it and you can instantly tell that you are in control of a great, great chassis... The turn in is far superior to the RX8's too (probably why it is prone to oversteer). The RX8 is nowhere near as accelerative or torquey and the front end feels too light for my liking. RX8 is a great car, but for me, the S15 wins by a long shot.

  • continued from below, also 200sx's had no speed cut and 240km/h speedo, NZ also got JDM Spec S and R S15s as imports and a 200sx is exactly the same as a spec R s15, its just that the 200sx was sold new in NZ it wasn't imported, but thats only 200sx's in NZ I know that in Aus. and Europe the specs are different again.

  • not to forget that it's a spec s, so it's made for cruising, not for circuit.

.s15 wolf is doing a great job hangin' on a more track oriented car with just 169hp (remember rx-8's have 238hp)and street/comfortable setup.

imho with the same drivers and a specR instead, for that rx-8 there wouldn't have been any story.

but still rx-8 and s15 are both great cars.

  • @eeidenzurg S15 made for cruising....sorry to burst your bubble there but it's built to be modded and go fast. It's a light RWD sports car. Not a "cruiser". And btw, spec s is turbo. Spec r is also turbo but with a few interior and exterior cosmetic mods. Power is the same as the spec s but spec r is actually a little heavier because of the extras. The jdm spec s and r both have 184 kw motors standard which translates to about 250hp...not 169

  • @papapetad dude, dont talk if you don't know...i own a jdm s15 spec s, wich originally was NA, and i turned into turbo. s15 spec s has an NA sr20de unit with a 169hp output. spec r is the turbo'd one with 250 hp coming from the sr20det with a garrett gt2560r turbo.also chassis is less flexible, brakes are stronger, etc etc etc...so, the NA compared to the turbo one, is more city oriented, while ste specR is a proper sports car....trust me mine was slower than a golf when it was NA :)

  • @eeidenzurg Ok I just did a bit of reading and in New Zealand (where I am currently), the silvia was badged on the local market as a 200SX. Both Spec S and Spec R shared the 184/187KW motor which is the turbo'd JDM spec motor. But you are right, the JDM Spec S was NA so I'll apologize for the misinformation above as it was based on an article I read years ago when it was first released in showrooms here ( c. '98-'99). Local badging did not match JDM badging spec levels :)

  • @papapetad i think i must apologize aswell as i didn't knew au/nz spec s were also turbo'ed...in any case this dude driving skills are quite good :D

  • @eeidenzurg haha all good, at least we can be more accurate if the question ever pops up again ;)

  • @papapetad Dude your wrong I live in NZ and I currently own a 200sx which is the s15 shape all 200sx's in NZ are turbo because 200sx means NZ new and thats how they were delivered to NZ we also got all the JDM versions of the car you cannot get a Spec S thats turbo all the 200sx's that were s15 shape are either Spec R or Spec R II definitely no Spec S

  • @matthewolsen Ok I'm lost. I just read the information I posted above on a site listing all spec levels. Oh well, they should all be debadged and turbo anyway lol I guess I got the specs mixed up with the silvia badged cars on the local market. Thanks for clarifying that I'll keep quiet now haha

  • @matthewolsen the name 200sx refers to a high majority of the 240s and datsuns. You can show off your s15 body with a turbo but that still doesnt make it a s15. Unless your car is a 6-speed, its no were close to a s15. Sorry bro, no matter how hard your trying to make your a car a s15 it wont be one. Closest your gonna get is if u get a sr20de/t. And having a turbo doesn't make you anymore hard. Lastly, please learn to use some periods, my eyes are bleeding rereading your post.

  • @orochiThing Ok I take it your American, just FYI just because it doesn't exist in America doesn't mean its like that everywhere, first of all there's no such thing as a 240sx in NZ and the shitty KA engines that went along with them, my 200sx was in fact a 6 speed and factory SR20DET, I could post up some pictures if you'd like? In NZ a 200sx is exactly the same as a JDM S15 Spec R with a few very minor changes namely the badge from Silvia to 200sx ;

  • @matthewolsen Please post up some pics, and while you at it some videos too on youtube. You seem like a very angry person and as a person seem to show no nissan pride. I feel sorry for the soul of your car and you should be ashamed of representing that nissan badge. Yes i am an american and all though some of our cars have been down graded due to polution law i still show love for all my cars. Even if i had an r34 i would still show love to an old car like the 240.

  • @orochiThing Just let it go mate, Matthew is correct. I have a 6spd S15 R (in AU we can get ADM and JDM versions) and know for a fact that NZ gets what is essentially a JDM version with 240kph speedo like he described - thus 6spd and SR20DET, power output of around 250PS (all from factory). The kiwis have it good, and the aussies didn't do to bad either, shame the S15 didn't get delivered to your side of the pond. They are nice cars and get the job done. :)

  • s15's are made to drift

  • is there a 5yo clapping in the back seat?

  • hey s15wolf I got to agree with you the rx8 corners better. My mate have one and I've been in it and there a noticeable difference between the rx8 corner handling and my s15.

  • its not the ride..is the rider :P

  • rx8 is very good at cornering, s15 is good too

  • nice driving ! you r right the rx8 looks realy stable durin cornering ! but your car looks also good from inside i think its also a matter of the driving line

  • The S15 wanted to play, so he let the RX8 pass...

The fact that the driver of the S15 claimed the spot back goes to show that the S15 isn't just for the drift circuit. Even with its inherent twitchiness, it can still outdrive an RX8 (which happens to be one of the best handelling RWD JDM cars of recent years).

  • rx8 stepped on the brakes dude. you can clearly see that. and whatever those japanese characters were i bet they were explaining what happened. the s15 is a good car but the rx8 was made to handle corners.

  • I can say the same as you, its very good at cornering, if you tune it a little is a drift monster

  • vid is kind of boring

  • hells yeah

  • Comment removed

  • well if you can drive better than these guys post a vid or don't bother saying anything douche bag

  • nerdbag your a retard the drivin in this video is shit

  • hahaha you don't know shit man just fucking prove me wrong that you can drive better then we will see whos driving is shit

  • wot sort of come back is that u retard i dont have to prove shit its a fact the driving in this is shit and unskillful, sorry kid thats just how it is.

  • its not all about power guys, calm down. there is more to a car...especially a track car than shitloads of power. you guys are acting like theres no way to get power out of it when its easy to just swap out parts with performance ones

  • my opinion it goes 350z s2000 rx-8 now im not hating i almost bought a rx-8 but really they are underpowered we have seen what mazda can do w/ rotarys so why didnt the give the rx-8 a little bit more

  • Ever tightening emissions regulations in the most lucrative market (US) kind of dictates how they designed the car. I think they will regain much of their credibility with the new 16X engine, which is more powerful, lighter, and much more efficient. (direct injection, all aluminum ect)

  • that is true i hope they come out w/ a "new rx"

  • yeah, ive heard rumors of a new rx9 (you can look it up yourself if you want) with a 1.8L rotary engine that is said to possible put out 450whp and a dual clutch and theyre gonna make a new rx7 about the same time but the rx7 isnt gonna be that impressive, it will be a 1.3L next gen rotary engine, no turbos(from what I've read), in basically an extended mx5 body.

  • dont forget u can get an rx8 with 280bhp,...... underpowered? dont think so!!!!!

  • well yea what about whp 280 isnt much look at the z...

  • A stock rx8 has 238hp, not 280, you may be able to get a jap spec one at 280 but not american spec stock.

  • ztunelover your right in a sence but then your wrong becuase the rx8 is a great all around car and its fast as hell 2 great car i say worth the money

  • I test drove RX-8 back when I had my Z and I gotta admit that it has a very nice quality feel overall. I liked the 9k redline and good handling, better that my Z. The only thing it lacks is power.

  • Hair pins and entry speeds are where the RX8 makes its money. It outbrakes just about everything in its class and has very predictable handling. Only weakness would be the exit speed. The guy driving the RX8 seems like an asshole. He totally cut off the S15 in the beginning and was that a brake-check at the end?

  • you could have pushed the car much harder and taken a better line but I agree the rx8 maybe lacking in power but they are phenominal corner carvers.

  • Granted the 8 had a better line, but it seemed like it was having an easier time turning than the S15, esp on turn in.

  • thanks for sharing some racing video from japan

  • The 8 had a way better line than you. Great car and driver!

  • hoola maka flippa
